Good Morning, it’s Tuesday, February 6, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
CBS Sports had a super night Sunday with Super Bowl XLI averaging a fast national household rating/share of 42.6/64 from 627p-1004p. The 9-930p time period earned the highest rating/share of 45.0/65. Super Bowl XLI was the second most-watched Super Bowl ever, averaging 93.15 million viewers. Sunday’s NFL championship telecast also ranks third overall as the most watched program in television history after the series finale of M*A*S*H and Super Bowl 30.
Tonight’s Finale:

As the cartoon terrorism dust settles in Boston, so does the conversations about just how much Turner Broadcasting and/or Interference marketing group should pay to the City of Boston and other various state and local agencies for the guerilla marketing stunt that left much of the city paralyzed. Turner Broadcasting and its marketing group will pay a total of $2 million – the first million going toward reimbursement of those agencies deployed to deal with the electronic devices, and the second million earmarked for homeland security and other programs.
Lifetime Television will premiere a new drama series with a mystical twist – Blood Ties on March 11 at 9p, with two one-hour episodes back-to-back. New episodes will then air on Sundays at 10p. The series based on the novels by Tanya Huff, stars Christina Cox as a private investigator who takes on supernatural crimes with her 450-year old vampire partner played by Kyle Schmid. Insight Film Studios Ltd. and Kaleidoscope Entertainment Inc. produced the series for Lifetime.
The debut of Comedy Central’s The Sarah Silverman Program on February 1 at 1030p had 1.3 million A18-49 viewers tuning in, representing a 1.2 A18-49 rating.
The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, distributed by Twentieth Television, has just added 12 new affiliates, taking the number of stations carrying the program to 68 and the national clearance to 70%. ION Media Networks, Inc. has formed a new pact with Bodog Entertainment, a digital entertainment company specializing in multi-platform content, with ION Television adding several BodogTV programs to its line-up that reaches more than 90 million television homes. Nielsen Media Research has just released its Arianna software in the U.S., a tool that can analyze metered market overnight ratings data for an individual local market. The software will be made available first to the thirteen Local People Meter markets (ten current markets and the three new markets for 2007). Later in first quarter 2007, Arianna will be in set meter markets. Another version for agencies, rep firms, national broadcast and cable clients, with a multi-market reporting capability, will be released later this year. Arianna is currently used in 30 countries worldwide across four continents.
The Nielsen Company and NetRatings, Inc. have reached a merger agreement where Nielsen, current owner of 60% of NetRatings, will acquire the remaining shares for a total cost of nearly $327 million. The merger is expected to be finalized this second quarter, based on the review and clearance of filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
