Good Morning. It’s Tuesday, August 21, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.
CBS expanded the game show Power of 10 to include Tuesday nights at 8p in addition to its regular time period of Wednesdays at 8p. Tonight is the first Tuesday of the new schedule, tho tonight’s episode will be a repeat from last Wednesday. Starting next Tuesday, and continuing for four consecutive Tuesdays, new episodes will air, followed by Big Brother at 9p and NCIS at 10p. The season finale of Power of 10 is scheduled for Sunday, September 23 at 8p, to not conflict with the premiere of Kid Nation on September 19.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
Adding to his already busy schedule, Ryan Seacrest will host the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards. The live telecast will originate from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles September 16 from 8-11p on FOX. Seacrest will wear two hats that night as he will also be a part of E!’s Live From the Red Carpet special airing prior to the Emmys telecast.
NBC will give MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann a primetime broadcast play this weekend as the prelude to Sunday Night Football’s all-PA game: Steelers vs. Eagles. Countdown is scheduled to air at 7p, and the game kicks off at 8p.
Comedy Central announced the anticipated return of three of its series this fall: South Park opens its 11th season October 3 at 10p, followed by the second season premiere of The Sarah Silverman Program at 1030p, and Drawn Together returns on October 4 at 1030p. Additionally the network has acquired a new reality series Kenny vs. Spenny about two best friends who compete against each other on everything. The date and time of this series debut is TBD.
Korean entertainment company Sidus Corporation and 3-year old ImaginAsian Entertainment have entered into the first phase of an extensive investment and multi-platform entertainment content agreement valued at more than $20 million. Initially Sidus Corporation will provide ImaginAsian Entertainment with capital to further expand its U.S. production and distribution activities in television, VOD, feature films, theatrical exhibition, DVD, music, and new media (including live-action mobile and on-line gaming). In addition, Sidus will be providing ImaginAsian with an array of content including feature films, dramatic series, music and live event performances from content producers such as Asia’s Mnet for distribution in the U.S. through its media platforms, including ImaginAsian TV (iaTV). Augustine SC Hong, ImaginAsian Entertainment’s chairman, has been named as an outside board member of Sidus Corporation.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
A.J. Buckley will become a series regular on CSI: NY as lab technician character Adam Ross, who has appeared on the series the last two seasons. A.J.’s other TV credits include Without A Trace, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Entourage.
Janeane Garofalo will join the cast of Fox‘s 24 this season as a government agent investigating the goings on with Jack Bauer and his crowd. Also new this season will be Cherry Jones as the President of the United States.
ABC Family ordered a one-hour drama pilot Samurai Girl from ABC Studios in association with Alloy Entertainment. The pilot was written by Luck McMullen and is based on the novel Samurai Girl: Book of the Sword, the first book in a series for young adults. Casting will begin immediately and production will take place this fall. The action centers on Heaven, a 19-year old girl who finds out her rich, adoptive parents are involved in a secret, dark world and she must rely on the ancient Samurai traditions of her blood relations.
Comedy Central‘s pilot project Held Up from Sony Pictures TV has cast Jack Carpenter in the lead role. The story revolves around a bank teller who life is significantly altered when his bank is held up.
~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~
Michael Couper is the new SVP/Strategic Operations and Mobile Advertising at Sony Pictures Television, reporting to Amy Carney, President/Advertiser Sales. His duties will include targeting and negotiating third-party advertising contracts across multiple platforms, which encompasses linear, mobile, online and VOD.
WKOW/Madison named Keith Triller to LSM. Previously, Keith served as NSM at the station since 2003. Additionally, Julia Stein-Barnes was hired as NSM for WKOW as well as WREX/Rockford. Both stations are owned and operated by Quincy Newspapers, Inc.
Fox has upped Marcy Ross to EVP/Current Programming where she will continue to oversee the network’s scripted programs. Marcy reports to Kevin Reilly, President/Fox Entertainment.
CJ Olivares advanced to GM at FUEL TV, up from the position of Assistant GM which he held since 2004. CJ will supervise all daily network operations and will continue to report to David Sternberg, EVP/Emerging Networks, Fox Cable Networks.
A couple of changes and hires at Lifetime — exiting the network is Leslie Chesloff, SVP/Scheduling and Acquisitions, as this department is picking up its NY roots and will be replanted in LA. And stepping in where former Marketing Chief Martha Pease once lived, will be the promotion and marketing duo of Bob Bibb and Lewis Goldstein, more familiarly known as Bob and Lew (the duo was a big hit with Jamie Kellner and the WB Network). Bob and Lew have been named co-Chief Marketing Officers for the network, based in LA and reporting to Pres/CEO Andrea Wong. The pair have been hanging with the network for the past few months as consultants, and are now officially staff.
A&E Network added Scott Lonker as VP/Nonfiction and Alternative Programming to oversee the network’s development and production of nonfiction, alternative and reality series. In his new role, Scott will report to Robert Sharenow, SVP/Nonfiction and Alternative Programming, A&E.
Leigh Primack takes on the newly created position of Executive Director/Distribution at GSN, starting August 30. Leigh will manage all affiliate sales and marketing initiatives for the network’s new Central Region group based in Chicago. She will also handle staffing and supervision of the daily distribution operations of the Chicago office.
Eric Brown joined The Africa Channel as EVP/Affiliate Sales. He will have the chance to create and manage the network’s distribution strategy nationwide with satellite, terrestrial cable and with the telcos, in addition to supervising affiliate sales division and its growth. Based in Los Angeles, he will report to Jacob Arback, President/Co-Founder and will work closely with the network’s executive management team.
Starz Entertainment upgraded Stephan Shelanski to EVP/Programming where he is responsible for all programming for the company’s platforms, including acquisitions, original programming and on-air interstitial content. He will continue to report to Bill Myers, President/COO.

Friday – A18-49 Analysis: ABC set a winning example Friday night at 1.6/6 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. Preseason NFL football action on FOX beat out the rest during 8p with a 1.4/5. The 9p hour saw UNIV win with Destilando Amor at 1.7/6. Then ABC took control the remainder of the evening as 20/20 won with a 2.0/7 at 10p.
