Good morning. It’s Thursday, September 26, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

Golf Channel booked a ten-year ticket to Europe. The channel inked a deal with The European Tour for all of the organization’s tournaments through the 2024 season. The new agreement maintains the Tour’s long-term relationship with Golf Channel, which dates back to the network’s launch in January 1995 with its first live golf coverage at the Dubai Desert Classic. Since Golf Channel joined the NBC Sports Group in 2011, The European Tour has scored a 60% increase in viewership with this season on pace to be The European Tour’s most-watched year ever in the United States. The agreement also encompasses rights to Golf Channel networks in Canada and Japan.

On the Air

NBCSN is rejigging its lineup as we hit the thick of the fall season. Starting Monday, on Mondays without a live Premier League match, Pro Football Talk expands with a 90-minute program and the network will showcase an additional Fantasy Football Live on Tuesdays at 5p. Football Night in America: Coach’s Clicker runs on Wednesdays at 5p, followed by Pro Football Talk. NBC Sports Group’s Premier League Goal Zone now expands on weekdays, primarily Mondays at 5p, following Premier League games. The NHL season brings regular-season coverage starting Oct. 1 with NHL Face-Off. Other NHL programming will be announced today.

On the flip side, NBCSN’s The Crossover is no more. Host Michelle Beadle confirmed the news on Twitter, writing that “Crossover is donzo. Thanks 2 the crew who tried their damnedest.”

On to ratings. Denver’s win over the Raiders on ESPN’s MNF, took the night for the channel in all key male demos and adults 18-34 and 18-49, according to Nielsen. The game drew an 8.9 rating for an average of 13,918,000 viewers. Top 10 metered markets in addition to two teams’ home markets, were Sacramento with an 18.5, followed by New Orleans, Albuquerque-Santa Fe, Las Vegas and San Diego.

With final ratings in, the NFL reports that its telecasts took the top two spots among all programs for the week ending Sept. 22, led by the CBS national telecast anchored by the Colts/49ers with 25.6 million average viewers. Number two for the week was NBC’s Bears/Steelers game on Sunday Night Football, drawing 20.5 million viewers.

In college football, ESPN reports that ABC’s Saturday Night Football Presented by Windows featuring Michigan over Connecticut and Texas besting Kansas State ranked as the most-viewed college football game of the week, according to Nielsen. The games averaged 5,727,000 viewers with a 3.5 rating. ESPN’s Saturday prime-time telecast, which saw LSU put down Auburn, averaged 3,799,000 viewers and a 2.2 rating.

NBC Sports Group reports that it has posted record numbers through the first five weeks of its coverage of the Premier League across NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, Telemundo, and other platforms. The 27 English-language games on NBC, NBCSN and CNBC drew a total of 9.1 million viewers. Since the Premier League season kicked off last month, NBCSN says that it has posted a 67% increase in average total day viewership. The network’s Premier League telecasts are averaging 391,000 viewers with Sunday’s “Manchester Derby” averaging 852,000 viewers to rank as the second most-watched Premier League match on cable in the U.S.

ESPN offers up a SportsCenter Special: Exit Sandman on Friday at 7p, spotlighting the career of New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. The one-hour special includes insights and analysis from ESPN MLB commentators, including Karl Ravech, Curt Schilling, John Kruk, Rick Sutcliffe, Aaron Boone (former Rivera teammate), Buster Olney and Tim Kurkjian. The show will also feature an ESPN Sport Science feature on Rivera’s famed cutter.

NBC Sports Regional Networks are introducing a new football analysis and debate program dubbed 3 and Out that will debut on Tuesday, October 1. The program will air each remaining week of the 2013 NFL season across the lineup of Comcast SportsNet RSNs utilizing next-generation fiber optics to connect a panel of football analysts, each located within a separate NFL market, to break down the three most impactful storylines affecting that week’s action. The program will feature regular appearances from CSN Houston’s Kelli Johnson, CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Brian Mitchell, CSN New England’s Mike Felger and CSN Bay Area’s Ray Ratto.

Sirius XM Radio is reeling in James Lofton where he will host The SiriusXM Blitz alongside co-host Bruce Murray every Friday from 11a-3p. The show can be found on SiriusXM NFL Radio, channel 88.

Sponsorship & Promotion

Quicken Loans has decided to follow Ryan Newman over to Richard Childress Racing as the driver’s primary sponsor for 12 races next season. Quicken Loans is currently Newman’s sponsor for 18 races at Stewart-Haas Racing. The company will also be an associate sponsor for the remaining races.

Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt is sticking with Puma. Reuters reports that the Olympic sprint champion will remain with the brand until after the 2016 Olympics in a deal estimated to be worth $10 million a year. The report also states that once he retires from competition, he will be paid $4 million per year to act as a Puma ambassador.

Digital & Technology

WWE, in partnership with John Cena, announced its first-ever 3D mobile racing game titled WWE Presents: John Cena’s Fast Lane. The free mobile app allows players to enter the game as young street racers with the goal of becoming the best in the world. Players will get to challenge opponents in cities across the U.S. The app was built in partnership with Chaotic Moon Studios.

The latest documentary in the 30 for 30 Shorts series is now on Grantland.com. The film, Collision Course, tells the story of Don Aronow, “a family man who moved to Miami in the ’60s after making a fortune in New Jersey construction, but soon his focus turned to building and racing cigarette boats. He became world famous, selling boats and fostering close relationships with some of the most powerful men in the world. But during that time in Miami, the people who needed Aronow’s products the most (and some of the only ones who could afford the hefty price tag) were drug smugglers. Aronow’s tale would end in a hail of bullets, leaving questions that still haven’t been answered.”

Roster Moves

Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association named Michael Downey as its CEO, shepherding his departure as President and CEO of Tennis Canada. Downey served in that position for nine years and will take over on Jan. 6 for the departing Roger Draper.

The Main Event

49ers/Rams on NFL Network at 8p.
