Good morning. It’s Thursday, September 13, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), Oh Noah! (www.pbskids.org/noah/), the web series that introduces kids to Spanish, will make its debut in interstitials in episodes of PBS Kids’ series, Cyberchase (www.pbskids.org/cyberchase/). Kids can catch Noah at the end of Cyberchase episodes beginning Monday, September 17 on PBS Kids (check local listings). The K6-8 targeted series stars nine-year-old Noah, who is staying with his grandmother in a Spanish-speaking neighborhood. The series is produced by Thirteen for WNET New York Public Media. The broadcast debut of Oh Noah! also coincides with the launch of the yearlong 50th anniversary celebration of Thirteen.

LICENSING

The Super Why! You’ve Got The Power Soundtrack from Razor & Tie‘s kids division, in association with B2BN Entertainment and Out of the Blue Enterprises, will release in stores October 30, 2012, and can be pre-ordered now on iTunes. The album is comprised of 18 tracks from the PBS preschool early reading skills-centric series, Super Why!, as well as the series-based touring show. Jack Antonoff, guitarist for the indie rock band fun., penned ten new songs and recorded/produced the soundtrack. MARKETING

Poptropica (www.poptropica.com), a virtual world for kids, furthers its partnership with Applebee’s restaurants in the US for a new kids menu promotion now through November 10, 2012. Popular Poptropica characters will be featured in the second Poptropica Family Activity Book, which includes coloring, games and puzzles. The kid menu also comes with a special code that kids can use online to unlock a virtual prize on Poptropica. In other Poptropica news, the virtual world just launched its 29th Island, Lunar Colony. Other recent activities for the site include a line of Poptropica plush characters and poseable figures from Jazwares, pre-paid game cards at Target stores, and a series of books published under the Poptropica imprint.

Australian fifteen-year-old pop singer, Cody Simpson, will serve as the Build-A-Bear Workshop brand ambassador. Simpson is teaming with Build-A-Bear Workshop on a range of initiatives including charitable and community-focused efforts, and the company will also debut Cody Simpson branded merchandise in 2013. Beginning October 2012, Simpson will participate in the company’s support of Stop Cyber Bullying month and will also help launch the national Stuffed with Hugs program, the latter of which invites customers can make a special bear for free to be donated to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Simpson’s first full-length album, Paradise, will drop October 2.

MORE KIDS STUFF

The Hub, a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, will host a Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters marathon this Saturday, September 15, 12n-2:30p. The marathon will feature four back-to-back episodes of the action/fantasy series followed by a new premiere episode, titled The Last of His Kind. This week will also include a new episode of Transformers Prime on Friday, September 14 at 7p, and Care bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot on Saturday at 8a.

Turner Broadcasting EMEA acquires The Jim Henson Company‘s CG animated preschool series Doozers (52×11), which will debut on it preschool channel, Cartoonito, from fall 2013.  A co-production of The Jim Henson Company and DHX Media, the Doozers series will debut at MipJunior next month in Cannes. The series revolves around a specific group of Doozers who live in Doozer Creek, a community that is a high-tech self-sustaining enchanted forest. Each episode follows four Doozer kid characters they go on adventures and invent things – using their creative thinking and physical skills. Doozers, a spin-off of Fraggle Rock, are just three inches tall, green, and live in communities (out of sight of humans) around the world.

LA-based Multicom Entertainment Group is named the worldwide distributor for Mask Masters (26×30), a 3D animated action/adventure series targeted to kids/tweens 7-14. Produced by acclaimed Korean animation house Studio W.BABA Co. and Mirayi SDN, Mask Masters follows the adventures of four teens chosen to protect the planet from evildoers with the help of their power masks that transform them into the Four Guardians. Multicom will debut Mask Masters at MIPCOM 2012 next month, where it will showcase the first episode.

Spain-based BRB Internacional and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) head to MipJunior to showcase their new animated series Invizimals (26×30). Targeted to K6-10, the HD TV series is based on the Invizimals video game created by Novarama for PSP (Playstation Portable). As in the game, the TV series incorporates enhanced-reality techniques – including allowing viewers to unlock additional content from the show exclusively on their PlayStation Vita portable console. BRB’s Catalonia-based studio Screen 21 is working on the project, which is set to make its world premiere at the end of 2013. The Invizimals game franchise for PS includes three titles, Invizimals, Invizimals: Shadow Zone and Invizimals: The Lost Tribes. Additionally, Panini, publisher of the monthly magazine Invizimals in Spain and Portugal, has launched several collections of cards, stickers and activities, while Comansi has released two series of collectible figurines and Safta debuted two lines of backpacks and school supplies. BRB manages the Invizimals brand across Spain and Portugal and plans to market the rights to the series worldwide.

Shaftesbury, a Canadian production and distribution company, will launch the animated specials Mighty Mighty Monsters (2×44 specials) at MipJunior and Mipcom 2012. The first project from Vancouver-based Bron Animation, the Mighty Mighty Monsters specials, Halloween Havoc and New Fears Eve, are based on the book series written and created by Patrick O’Reilly. The specials feature original music composed by members of the Canadian rock band Broken Social Scene, and follows a group of classic movie monster kids – Frankie, Gunnar and Vlad – who are expelled from Monster Academy and sent to a human middle school. A third special, titled Howl at the Moon, is set for 2013.

9 Story Entertainment unveils a slate of new episodes it will offer at Mipcom 2012, including kid’s animated, live-action and adult-aimed primetime animated series. The kid-targeted programming includes: Camp Lakebottom (26×22 or 52×11); Arthur (20×22 or 40×11) the digitally enhanced 16th season of the popular animated series returns with 20 new episodes no produced by 9 Story; Daniel Tiger’s Neighbourhood (40×22 or 80×11); Almost Naked Animals (52×22 or 104×11); Wild Kratts (66×22); and the short-form Making Stuff (104×5).

This January 2013, The Wiggles founder, Blue Wiggle Anthony Field will be joined by several new additions to The Wiggles family, including Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce, and the first-ever female Wiggle, Emma Watkins. The new members of The Wiggles were handpicked by the group and have already been introduced to audiences on the current worldwide Celebration Tour, it wraps in Australia this December, during which they have been performing alongside the original Wiggles, Anthony, Greg, Murray and Jeff. Greg, Murray and Jeff will remain involved in the group and the creation of new songs and other projects. For those wondering, Emma will don the yellow Wiggle jersey, Lachy the purple and Simon the red jersey. Additional tour information can be found at www.thewiggles.com.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Frank Saperstein, formerly SVP/Family Television at Entertainment One Group (eOne), hangs out his own shingle with the formation of Surprise Bag (www.surprisebag.com). Saperstein’s new banner will create, develop, produce programming and content across all genres including for kids and family. While at eOne, Saperstein served as Executive Producer of the tween-targeted comedy Majority Rules, among others shows and pilots. He previously toiled for Blueprint Entertainment as SVP/Kids and Animated Programming, Co-CEO/Creative Director of PASI (Philippine Animation Studio) and Development Executive at VH1. Saperstein’s other credits include Ren & Stimpy, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, Kampung Boy and Prince’s Paisley Park.

Discovery Communications appoints Alden Mitchell Budill as VP/Domestic Distribution and Strategy for its joint ventures OWN and The Hub. In her new position, Budill will work with Meg Lowe, SVP/Distribution and Strategy, OWN and The Hub. She will also work the brands to develop and implement marketing initiatives for distribution partners. Budill previously served in a variety of senior positions for Discovery’s International division as well as with MTV Networks, Time Warner and Disney.
