   IN THE NEWS

Seasons 1-7 of “The Apprentice,” starring President Donald J. Trump, are rolling out on Prime Video. A new season will drop each week through April 27, starting yesterday with season one, which made its debut back in 2004. “I look forward to watching this show myself — such great memories, and so much fun, but most importantly, it was a learning experience for all of us!”, said Trump, who was an executive producer on the show with Mark Burnett. It’s the first time the reality show has been available on a streaming service.

Netflix is the biggest spender – by far – in the streaming universe. The service spent $15.3 billion on content in 2024, reports MoffattNathanson Research, topping $8.6 billion for Walt Disney (Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+), $6.4 billion for Warner Bros. Discovery (discovery+, Max), $5.2 billion for Peacock and $4.2 billion for Paramount+. Thanks to its large subscriber base, Netflix also boasts the highest profit margin – 28%. WBD was a distant second with 7%.

Amid multiple service outages on Monday, Elon Musk claimed his company was under a “massive” cyber-attack. “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot resources,” posted Musk. “Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved.”

Pluto TV has launched a new brand campaign, “Feel the Free,” with new broadcast ad spots. The campaign emphasizes that entertainment should be freeing, both emotionally and financially, and builds on the service’s “Couch Potato” campaign that launched last year during the Super Bowl.

A special meeting will be held on April 23 to allow shareholders to vote on the proposal to separate Lionsgate from Starz. Lionsgate Television let five people go from its scripted division, or 6% of its staff, on Thursday, ahead of the split.

DOOH trade marketing association DPAA is expanding its Women’s Empowerment program, WE.DOOH. Entering its seventh year, the initiative is evolving beyond the focus of women’s empowerment to a broader WE.DOOH Leadership Series. “Our Women’s Empowerment program webinars have learnings for all,” said Barry Frey, President & CEO of DPAA. “It’s only fitting we evolved the program into a Leadership Series, especially in today’s climate.”
