NBC Olympics and Facebook will be partnering for the London 2012 Olympic Games. As part of the collaboration, the NBC Olympics page on Facebook will feature up-to-date news and information, and will engage fans of the Olympic Games with featured polls, photo galleries, trivia and shareable images. In addition, fans that “like” NBC Olympics on Facebook will have the chance to unlock exclusive content made available to NBC Olympics fans. NBC Olympics’ coverage of the London Games will also include the launch of Facebook data tool Talk Meter designed to inform viewers about stories, results, athletes and events that other fans of the Olympic Games are talking about on Facebook. As a result of the agreement, representatives from Facebook will work with NBC editorial teams to produce social media segments that will air throughout the Games across the networks of NBCUniversal that are carrying Olympic coverage.

The 83rd MLB All-Star Game handed FOX Sports with its biggest All-Star Game total audience since 2009. In spite of the blowout, the game delivered 27.7 million total viewers overall to mark a 7% jump over year ago numbers. The game itself drew a 6.8/12 household rating/share, with an average of 10.9 million viewers for a 1% dip below last year’s scores. The game handed FOX with its highest-rated night since the American Idol finale, and the highest-rated night of broadcast network television since Game 5 of this year’s NBA Finals on ABC. St. Louis topped all markets for the sixth consecutive year with a 20.5/33, followed by host market Kansas City (18.7/31).
ESPN released its opening lineup of college basketball games this season, for the Fifth Annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, broadcasting 11 games in 24 hours. The stretch includes a schedule of matchups across ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3 beginning at midnight with West Virginia/Gonzaga in the Old Spice Classic. ESPN will televise nine straight games tipping off every two hours, including the second annual Champions Classic doubleheader pitting Michigan St./Kansas at 7p and Duke/Kentucky at 9p. Schools making their Marathon debut include: Davidson, Detroit, Harvard, Houston Baptist, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Valparaiso and Xavier.
ESPN also announced that the company had signed four of the company’s top National Football League experts to multi-year contract extensions including Adam Schefter, John Clayton, Mel Kiper Jr. and Ed Werder.
NBC Sports Group is set to showcase the 2012 U.S. Senior Open this weekend, with coverage set to run from 3-6p on Saturday and Sunday. Golf Channel on NBC’s weekend coverage will be complemented by news coverage on Golf Central on Golf Channel. GolfChannel.com also will provide online coverage of the championship. Dan Hicks will host with lead analyst Johnny Miller anchoring coverage from the 18th tower.
CBS Sports hits the green as well, broadcasting third-and final-round coverage of the John Deere Classic from 3-6p on both days of the weekend. The announce team will include Bill Macatee and Ian Baker-Finch in the 18th tower,with Peter Oosterhuis on the 17th hole, and DavidFeherty on the 16th hole.
Tennis Channel is set to cover nine Emirates Airline US Open Series events during the seven weeks between now and the US Open, with more than 100 match hours from the annual North American summer hard-court season. The lineup includes five men’s ATP and three women’s WTA tournaments, with coverage launching today and running through Friday, August 24. The play-by-play team is set to feature network regulars Ted Robinson, Ian Eagle, Brett Haber and Leif Shiras with analysts set to include Lindsay Davenport, Justin Gimelstob and Jimmy Arias.
ESPN will offer live coverage of today’s press conference with Judge Louis Freeh as he discusses his report on “the investigation into the facts and circumstances of the actions of (Penn State) surrounding the child abuse committed” by Jerry Sandusky. Coverage originates from Philadelphia, where the news conference will take place, starting at 9p.
The National Science Foundation, NBC Learn and NBC Olympics are teaming up to showcase innovation at the year’s London 2012 Olympic Games, in a series that will spotlight the technologies created for Olympic athletes and viewers. The series is dubbed Science of the Summer Olympics: Engineering in Sports and is narrated by Liam McHugh. Each video segment will be available to NBC affiliate stations, and can be seen for free on the web accompanied by an engineering-focused lesson plan for middle-and high-school teachers developed by the National Science Teachers Association.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3 will combine to air carry seven USA Basketball Men’s and Women’s National Team exhibition games presented by Nike+ with five men’s and two women’s contests, beginning with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team vs. the Dominican Republic tonight at 9p. All games will be available on WatchESPN and generally carried on ESPN Mobile TV. Mark Jones will provide play-by-play for all ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts with International basketball expert and analyst Fran Fraschilla.
MSG is set to telecast all five of the New York Knicks’ 2012 NBA Summer League games live starting Saturday, July 14 at 4p, with encore presentations set to run later the same night. Mike Breen and Spero Dedes will split play-by-play duties, along with analyst Walt “Clyde” Frazier and reporter Alan Hahn.
The Mid-American Conference announced that the 2012 MAC Football Media Day on July 24 can be seen live on ESPN 3. The event takes place at Ford Field in Detroit and will start at 8a.
Fight Now TV announced that it has entered into a partnership with Vegas TV / KTUD 25 to deliver weekly fight events from FIGHT NOW TV’s programming lineup of MMA, boxing, kickboxing and other combat events. The channel FIGHT NOW TV is available on Cablevision channel 464 as part of the iO Sports & Entertainment Pak!

ESPN is gearing up for its portion of the NASCAR season, launching its “Nothing Beats First Place” marketing campaign for its programming. NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski will take part in the campaign promoting ESPN’s coverage of the final 17 NASCAR Sprint Cup races of the season, beginning with the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis on July 29.
In addition, ESPN announced at the ESPYs last night that the company is teaming with StubHub to launch The Hall of Fans, an institution that will live permanently on the ESPN campus. Fans looking for immortality will be able to submit essays, photos and videos at TheHallofFans.com that explain why they deserve to be inducted into this new institution. Later, the top ten fans will be identified and those fans will campaign for votes using their social platforms with the three fans who receive the most votes during that period inducted into the Hall of Fans.
The NASCAR Foundation announced that it had delivered the final installment of $100,000 as part of a record donation to Shands Hospital for Children at the University of Florida in Gainesville. In partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the organization committed $500,000 to mark the single largest donation that The NASCAR Foundation has been a part of to support a new pediatric oncology unit.
Brite Promotions hired Jason Blake, who previously served as Vice President, Marketing and Client Partnerships at Shecky’s Media, as the new Vice President of Business Development for the company.
Bloomberg is partnering with IMG in deal with will “greatly expand and accelerate the growth of Bloomberg’s vertical division, Bloomberg Sports.” The new venture will retain the name Bloomberg Sports, and will be funded through a partnership created by both entities. As part of the deal, IMG will have a strong minority equity position in the division and offer enhanced marketing, sales and production assistance for both the existing Bloomberg Sports analytics products, as well as a new series of projects that will be rolled out this summer.
WWE announced an investment in and strategic partnership with Tout Industries, Inc. that will leverage WWE’s array of assets, including television, live events, digital, print and more than 100 million social media followers to expand Tout’s platform for real-time video status updates, and create “a new dynamic social experience for WWE fans.” Beginning on July 23 during the 1,000th episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE fans will have the chance to be seen and heard via Tout as real-time video updates will be featured during WWE television programming, on WWE.com, throughout WWE’s social media presence and on in-arena video displays.
ESPN has launched the new ESPN Radio app for Android smartphones, which is available for a limited-time free upgrade or download in the Google Playstore.
New York-based predictive game studio PrePlay secured $3.1 million in Series A funding led by social media entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, RSE Ventures’ CEO Matt Higgins, and other angel investors. The investment funds will be used to expand staff and develop PrePlay’s suite of games, which includes baseball and other entertainment-related content.
