1/04/07

Good Morning, it’s Thursday,  January 4, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.

NBC Universal has pulled the plug on the freshman syndicated talk show series The Megan Mullally Show, which has averaged a 0.8 HH rating since its launch in September. Production has stopped and a mix of originals and repeats will air through the end of this month.  How the time period will be filled is the biggest question and NBCU distribution execs say they will work with stations to find new programming to fill the gap left by the talk show strip.  A potential replacement is NBCU’s newest daytime strip series iVillage Live.  Of course with NATPE looming just a couple of weeks down the road, stations will be pitched a variety of replacement possibilities if not for an immediate clearance, certainly for Fall 2007, all of which will depend on their contracts with NBCU for the time period.

Tonight’s Finale:
BBC America:  Afterlife at 9p

Tonight’s Premiere:
Spike TV:  Afro Samurai at 11p

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

FOX has announced this season will be the last for The O.C. New original episodes will air beginning tonight until the season finale, scheduled for February 22.  This season The O.C. has averaged about 4.1 million viewers, down from last year’s 5.7 million average, and less than half of what it earned during its original season in 2003.

The launch of FX‘s Dirt on Tuesday evening at 10p drew 3.4 million total viewers, with 2.1 million being inside the coveted A18-49 demographic.  A repeat of the premiere episode immediately followed at 11p and drew 2.6 million total viewers, and 1 million A18-49.

The season finale of Dr. 90210 on E! Monday night drew 1.2 million total viewers and delivered a .96 HH rating.  Immediately following was the debut of High Maintenance 90210, which held onto 836,000 total viewers and in the all important A18-49 demo, delivered a .48 rating.

Fans of the Adult Swim show Aqua Teen Hunger Force will get to see the mysterious origins of the main characters revealed in Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theatres this March. The service will also be available online and on satellite. NPR will hire new hosts and staff for the show and it will use the NPR New York Bureau as its production base.
