The second time around the Inauguration festivities didn’t draw as many viewers for President Obama. About 20.6 million people watched his Inauguration on TV on Monday, with 18 networks airing live coverage from about 10 am to 4:30p, Nielsen said, for a 14.0 household rating. That compares to nearly 38 million viewers watching the event back in 2009, representing a 46% dip. However, that’s about the same drop-off that George W. Bush’s second term inauguration saw as well, Nielsen added. An interesting tidbit – President Nixon is the only president in recent history to see an increase in second term inaugural viewing.
