David Nelson, 74, son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and one of the co-stars of the television series, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, died Tuesday at his home in Century City, CA. At the age of 16, Mr. Nelson joined his parents and his younger teen idol brother, Rick, on the radio show Here Come the Nelsons which morphed into the well-known classic television series that was shot inside the family’s real home in Hollywood Hills. During the TV series’ five-year run, Mr. Nelson directed and produced several episodes of the series. Following the TV series Mr. Nelson became a successful director and producer, though he did act in several movies between 1957 and 1965 including Peyton Place, The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker and The Big Circus, among others. He also appeared in many other TV series such as Up in Smoke and The Love Boat and focused his directorial work on family TV series including O.K. Crackerby, Childish Things, Easy to be Free and Goodnight Beantown. Mr. Nelson’s famous parents and brother all preceded him in death: Ozzie Nelson in 1975; Rick Nelson died in a plane crash on December 31, 1985; and his mother Harriet in 1994. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Yvonne of 36 years; sons John, Eric, James and Danny; and one daughter Teri.
