CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC DISTRIBUTION
MOVE OVER RAYMOND, HERE COMES “Broadcast TV’s only true remaining hit comedy.” – Entertainment Weekly Tune-in Tonight for the Season Premiere TWO AND A HALF MEN CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Monday, September 19, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. Welcome to the official start of the 2005-2006 season! How can you recognize the official start? There’s the aroma of freshly sharpened pencils, a new schedule to memorize, the competition you always had a problem with is still sitting across from you, that undeniable feeling that you’ve been given a brand new start and that this year is going to be your best. You can also tell by the amount of homework you have tonight: CBS King of Queens [p], How I Met Your Mother [p], 2-1/2 Men [p], Out of Practice [p], CSI: Miami [p] Syndication launches today: The other way you know the fall TV season is ready to begin, is the Emmy Awards were last night. And the winners were: Best Drama: Lost Best Actor in a Drama: James Spader, Boston Legal Best Actress in a Drama: Patricia Arquette, MediumBest Comedy: Everybody Loves Raymond Best Actor in a Comedy: Tony Shaloub, Monk Best Actress in a Comedy: Felicity Huffman, Desperate Housewives And here are a couple of other categories perhaps you didn’t know were a part of last night’s festivities: Best Dressed: Marcia Cross and Keifer Sutherland Worst Dressed: Patricia Arquette and Stephen Hopkins (Writer/Life and Death of Peter Sellers) Most Endearing Acceptance Speech: S. Epatha Merkerson who lost her acceptance speech down the front of her dress Least Endearing Speech: Everyone else Best Line: “We can’t help but point out, we won this for the show you people won’t watch!” — Jim Vallely, Arrested Development Best Presentation Duo: Zach Braff and Hugh Laurie Best Moments: Johnny Carson Tribute from start to finish* MORE GOOD STUFF *The NFL rules dictate that if a game is not sold out to the local audience, the TV airing of the game locally will be blacked out. However, tonight’s early on ABC between the New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints will ignore that rule in NYC. With 15,000+ tickets still to be sold, the game will air tonight beginning at 730p on ABC. At 9p with the scheduled start of the MNF game between the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys, New York stations will continue with the Giants/Saints game, while the Washington/Dallas game will air on ESPN. When the Giants/Saints game ends, ABC will pick up the remainder of the Washington/Dallas game. Tonight’s Giants/Saints game was originally scheduled to be played in the Superdome. 2005-06 Sweep Dates: (Nov, Feb, May, July only) Weekend Box Office Estimates: September 16-18, 2005 Here’s a question for you – not a serious news question, just a while you’re sitting around type of question. Of all the new characters coming to primetime television this season, which character would you most want to meet? Me? I’d choose Mandy Patinkin’s character Gideon on Criminal Minds (CBS, Wed at 9p), a behavior analysis investigator for the FBI. You? * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Casting Note: The Style Network is casting a new show called Relationship Rehab and is making a call out to anyone who has recently had their heart broken, or knows someone who has been cheated on or recently dumped, and you think now may be the time for a life makeover. Carpenter plays his sister. * EXECUTIVE MOVES *Tom Kane has been named President/CEO of Viacom Television Stations Group, succeeding Fred Reynolds, who recently was named EVP/CFO of CBS Corp. Tom will now oversee all operations of the group’s 40 local TV stations, reporting directly to Leslie Moonves. Bill will work with independent producers and domestic cable programmers in North America to assist with the funding and acquisition of factual series and specials for Mercury Media to license internationally. * RATINGS *Thursday — A18-49 Analysis: CBS walked away with the win on Thursday night with a dominating 5.5/16 A18-49 rating according to final numbers from Nielsen Media Research. The premiere of Survivor at 8p drew a 6.6/19 in the demo, far and away ahead of The O.C. on Fox (3.0/9) and Primetime on ABC (1.9/6), the only other original broadcast programming options for the hour. At 9p the President spoke for a half hour. That half hour of sustained coverage is not rated. At 930p a repeat of CSI (930-1030) delivered a 4.9/13. At 10p Primetime earned a 2.2/6, but it was a second full hour of CSI [r] that won the hour with a 4.5/14 (1025-11:25p). FINAL HOUSEHOLD RATINGS: Thursday, September 15, 2005, for all Networks – program averages. Note: The Presidential Address from 9-930p was sustaining coverage (no commercials) and therefore is not included in the ratings, nor it is rated itself. The final tallies for the night do not include the Presidential address. Source: Nielsen Media Research.
