I know you’ve been on pins and needles about this, so let me put you at ease. Dog the Bounty Hunter, his son and his colleague, are all out on bail after spending a night in a federal lockup. They will all have to wear monitors to make sure they don’t flee again, and return to Mexico for a trial on their arrest three years ago for bounty hunting in Mexico. Apparently, Mexico frowns on that particular occupation, to the point where they classify it as a criminal offense. Never mind Dog and friend captured a fugitive who fled the US while on trial for three rapes, and never mind that guy is now serving a 124-year prison term.

RE: SURVIVOR
Dear Cynthia:
I was really quite enthusiastic about seeing the new Survivor series. Unfortunately, I came away fairly disappointed. I think the show, to a certain degree, gives short shrift to the African American tribe. Specifically, I think the A-A clan, in relative terms, is fairly homogeneous and average (no offense intended to the A-A’s). In stark contrast to the other tribes, the A-A clan consists of no high achievers from the white collar ranks. All its members, it appears, are from the middle- to lower-middle class and earn a living in the arts or broader service industry. And while several members from the nonblack tribes look like they were ripped from the pages of an Abercrombie and Fitch catalogue (with the requisite athletic physiques and striated muscles), the best physical specimen on the A-A tribe is probably best described as “doughy.” (No Tyson Beckford or Roshumba look-alikes there). I think the producers of Survivor have blown it. The other tribes bridge a relatively broad spectrum of intra-ethnic diversity. They have members in (or in the pursuit of) employs traditional viewed as ‘high powered’ in addition to those in more pedestrian and nontraditional pursuits. Due perhaps to unfamiliarity and/or a general lack of interest, CBS and the producers of Survivor, I suspect, picked what they assumed was a varied mix of black people with good commercial appeal. Judging by the first episode, they came up short.

RE: TIME TO DISCONTINUE EMAILS TO THE EDITOR, AT LEAST ON THE TOPIC OF SURVIVOR
After reading the emails on the 9/14 newsletter I was thinking the same thing as “Anonymous”, and was going to write to you and suggest the same thing. I think it’s time to put a lid on it. I enjoyed the open forum on the Survivor topic and even added my 2 cents, however the subject has digressed to something else for which I believe will never be resolved with words. It has taken the human race many centuries to mix race to the number that we have today and will no doubt take many, many more to accomplish an all global, one race of brown, Heinz 57, perfectly evolved mutt race, and whereas the word racism might only be found as an archaic term in the dictionary. But until then I’m afraid the conversation will always eventually end in finger pointing and hostility, after all, we are only HUMAN and we have our pride! And besides, Survivor has in fact premiered. Maybe it’s time to just watch and see…or don’t watch and don’t SEE. So what do you think Cyn? Is it time to cap the whole thing?
Monica Stecher
I think I agree with “anonymous” about the ending with other people’s input as unnecessary, but yet, we can just choose to not read them.
Thanks for all the hard work you do in providing us with this daily information. As a side note, I manifested a spot on a tv show by seeing it on your site, so another thank you is necessary!
Peace,
Kimberly Berg
And with that, I think we’re done here. At least for now.
