Good morning. It’s Monday, September 17, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), Disney Channel US began airing Spanish-language music videos of songs from High School Musical 2 over the weekend. Performed by popular recording artists from Mexico and Spain, the music videos initially debuted on Disney Channel Spain and Disney Channels throughout Latin America. Additionally, other Spanish-language versions of songs from Disney Channel series, including Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, My friends Tigger and Pooh, will air as music videos as interstitials throughout the month, while Spanish language versions of the theme songs from Cory in the House and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody will air interstitially through October 15. Mexican-American actress Selena Gomez, from the new comedy Wizards of Waverly Place, which premieres Friday, October 12, will introduce the music video interstitials on-air.
YTV premieres The Adrenaline Project (13×30), a new teen aimed, extreme sports, live-action reality series produced by Canada’s marblemedia in association with the YTV network, on Saturday, September 29, at 7p as part of the line-up of Get Real!, the two-hour reality programming block. Hosted by Richard Cazeau and Drill Sergeant Boomer, each episode features five thrill-seeking teens at training and competing with one another for the opportunity to take part in the final extreme event. The Adrenaline Project was recently acquired by 4Kids Entertainment for the 4KidsTV, the Saturday morning programming block on Fox in the US, which debuts the series earlier the same day.
BRB Internacional will attend Cartoon Forum this week in Girona, where it will showcase its new multi-platform HD 3D animated series Angus & Cheryl and unveil plans for a second season of the series (104×90-seconds). A comedy, Angus & Cheryl is a co-production of BRB Internacional, Screen 21, Televisio de Catalunya and Tuba Entertainment. BRB is also celebrating its 35th anniversary. Nickelodeon recently inked a deal with BRB to roll-out Angus & Cheryl across Europe and Latin America. The series also airs this fall in Canada as part of a deal with Radio Canada.

Fans of the Fraggles, Doozers and Gorgs get a holiday gift early when Koch Records, which will release Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rockin’ a 3 CD Collector’s Edition, on October 30, 2007. The release includes all three original albums, re-mastered and featuring rarely seen photos and information from the original composers, Dennis Lee and Philip Balsam. The Fraggle Rock albums, Fraggle Rock, Fraggle Rock: Perfect Harmony and Fraggle Rock Music and Magic were originally released in 1983 (I.J.E., Inc), 1986 (Columbia) and 1993 (BMG Kidz/Jim Henson Records) respectively. Hit Entertainment represents The Jim Henson Company’s brand.
Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block launches two nationwide concert tours next month. On October 1, a 12-campus hip-hop tour begins with a concert at the State University of New York in Albany, featuring Ghostface Killah and Witchdoctor (aka Eric Johnson). On October 29, a 12-campus heavy metal tour sets off with headliner And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead. But, more importantly for Adult Swim devotees is that a real life version of Dethklok, the heavy metal band from the block’s animated series Metalocalypse, born from the minds of Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, will open for Trail of Dead. Fronted by Small, who along with Blacha lend their voices to the series, will be featured as lead vocalist for Dethklok on the tour. Metalocalypse: Dethklok The Dethalbum, the group’s first album, will be released on Adult Swim’s Williams Street record label on September 25, 2007. Witchdoctor’s new album, Diary of an American Witchdoctor, will be released October 23 on the Williams Street record label. Nintendo’s North American SVP/Marketing, George Harrison puts rumors to rest as he tells Reuters, “I have confirmed to all employees that I will be leaving at the end of December and not making the move to California.” The news comes as Nintendo prepares to move its US Sales and Marketing groups from Redmond, Washington to New York and San Francisco. Harrison, who joined Nintendo in 1992, has not said what he plans to do following his egress from Nintendo.
FremantleMedia Enterprises welcomes Hendrik Van Daalen as VP/Sales, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and French-speaking Europe. Based in Madrid, he will manage all programming and format sales of FME’s portfolio. Hendrik, who will report to CEO David Ellender, was most recently a consultant for FME, responsible for German, Italian and Eastern European sales. Previously, he was VP/Sales, Universal International Television Distribution.
Astral Television Networks promotes several in Affiliate Sales and Marketing. Mark Waschulzik was promoted to the newly created position of Director/Affiliate Marketing. He will manage departmental spending, initiate promotional plans, oversee affiliate events coordination, and collaborate with other departments on sales and marketing. Leanne Shearer was also upped to Affiliate Sales Representative. She will be responsible for all Canadian Cable Systems Alliance members including Eastlink, Persona, Mountain and Source, and will also oversee accounts such as SaskTel, MTS, Telus and various western-based Family Channel affiliates.
