* MORE GOOD STUFF *USA has picked up the broadcast rights to the film Dukes of Hazzard, along with six other titles, from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution, at a total fee of $23 million, per Variety. After their HBO runs, the first film to go to USA will be Dukes in April 2008.  For the other five films, USA has opted to pass on the first broadcast run and take later runs instead.  Dukes, alternatively, has been signed to a four year exclusive deal for USA, with the noted exception of a possible broadcast run in November 2008 and again in October 2009.  WBDCD has not signed a broadcast network to a deal yet, but still has that option.  The other five titles in the package are Terminator 3 and Troy (shared with AMC and FX), Alexander (shared with AMC) and Matchstick Men, City by the Sea and Out of Reach.  At this point, the last three do not have a shared deal with any other cable networks.

Granite Broadcasting has sold its San Francisco and Detroit WB affiliates to AM Media Holdings for a reported total of $177.5 million in cash, and $2.5 million in AM Media Holdings equity.  The remaining 13 Granite owned stations are all Big Three affiliates. According to Broadcasting & Cable, Granite said it wanted to divest its WB affiliates in favor of its traditional network affiliated stations, and concentrate on those station’s news efforts.  The sale is pending FCC approval.

Echostar’s Dish Network has signed a carriage deal with The NFL Network, which will substantially add to that network’s total subscribers, with 7.5 million new households, bring the total for NFL up to 35 million. According to Variety, Echostar will pay the NFL Network fees of approximately 20 cents per sub per month, with annual increases of one cent per sub for the life of the contract.  In return, Echostar gets two 1-minute avails per hour to sell.

Veteran sportscaster Chris Schenkel died on Sunday at the age of 82.  Schenkel had many notable firsts in his lengthy career, including the first to call the Masters Tournament in 1956, the first to call a nationally produced college football game on ABC, and the first live sports anchor at the Olympics in 1956. Schenkel was there when Nadia Comaneci’s performed her perfect 10 at the Olympics in 1976.  He was also the official voice of the New York Giants for over a decade beginning in 1952.  Schenkel was given the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award in 1993.  He is survived by his wife Fran, two sons and a daughter, and numerous grandchildren.
