Toy company Bandai Co. launches the first website for its new Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. (Love is Fun Everywhere) virtual digital pet brand of lifestyle products, at www.tamagotchilife.com. The Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. website reflects the traits of the original game play – caring, nurturing, interactive, informational and fun with a contemporary spin and a fashion-trend focus. The website features activities, a “Stories” section where fans can upload images of their original Tamagotchis and share their stories, a Trends section that focuses on new styles, food, pop culture and “cool” things, and a T-L.i.f.e. Blog where information about new products can be found. Additionally, the site will include regularly updated Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. Webisodes, the original videos will feature Tamagotchi related people, products and places/venues. There will also be a series of Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. apps, the first of which is currently slated for release in spring 2013. Bandai is collaborating with Sync Beatz Entertainment on the Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. website as well as on a comprehensive marketing program for a line of Tamagotchi L.i.f.e. products in the US. Originally launched in Japan in 1996, followed by its introduction in the US the following year, 78+ million units of Tamagotchi virtual digital pets have been sold in 54 countries and territories.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Nickelodeon will premiere its brand-new mixed live-action/CG TV holiday movie, A Fairly Odd Christmas, this Thursday, November 29, at 7p. Starring Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) and Daniella Monet (Victorious), A Fairly Odd Christmas follows Timmy Turner as he travels the world granting kids’ wishes with his friend Tootie (Monet), and of course his animated fairy godparents, Cosmo (Daran Norris) and Wanda (Susanne Blakeslee). Though well intentioned, this gets Timmy into some trouble with Santa who then places him on The Naughty List – sending Timmy on a quest to save Christmas before it’s too late. Produced by Pacific Bay Entertainment, the A Fairly Odd Christmas TV movie is executive produced by Butch Hartman, creator of The Fairly OddParents, and Lauren Levine, Fred Seibert and Marjorie Cohen. Scott McAboy is co-executive producer.

In other Nickelodeon programming highlights for the week, the network honors World AIDS Day (Saturday, December 1, 2012) with the debut of the special Nick News with Linda Ellerbee, Forgotten But Not Gone: Kids, HIV & AIDS, tonight at 8p. The special features kids who are living with or affected by AIDS. Also featured in the special is Hydeia Broadbent, who at the age of six appeared with Earvin “Magic” Johnson on one of the first Nick News specials, A Conversation With Magic (1992), which focused on HIV AIDS. Broadbent, who has had full-blown AIDS since she was 3, is now an AIDS activist. Nick News is produced by Ellerbee’s Lucky Duck Productions.

US writer Sean Derek (The Smurfs, Batman, Zhu Zhu Pets, Pac-Man) signs on to work as a writer on the new 3D animated TV series Filly (26×26) from BRB Internacional and Screen 21. Announced last month, the new series is based on the popular girl-aimed Filly (www.filly.com) toy line. Slated to launch in 2014, Filly will be produced by BRB’s creative studio Screen 21. The series will follow the adventures of the Fillys in their fantasy world. Dracco, the property owner of Filly, in association with BRB Internacional, has established an Agency Licensing Agreement for Iberia. BRB Internacional will distribute the Filly series worldwide (excluding Germany) and will also develop a licensing program and manage the licensing rights in Spain and Portugal.

DHX Media inks a deal with Amazon’s European digital streaming channel on a non-exclusive SVOD UK license adding close to 1,000 half-hours, to the existing offering of DHX’s classic kid’s TV shows, such as Inspector Gadget, Dennis The Menace, Mona the Vampire, Paddington Bear and Sonic the Hedgehog. The SVOD service is provided via Amazon’s European digital media subsidiary, Lovefilm.

In Canada, Astral‘s Disney Junior channel launches this month on Shaw Direct (channel 167 Advanced/538 Classic). Disney Junior is a commercial-free channel available in English and French to subscribers across Canada.

Komixx Entertainment, a family-centric media company that co-produces the new series Toby’s Traveling Circus, expands into the US with the opening of its first international office in LA. Komixx aims to grow into the US TV, film and computer gaming industries, with an eye to creating dramas targeted to teens. Komixx is teaming up with US media company, Great Guns, to explore content for the computer games industry by extending its franchise of established intellectual property. Produced by Mackinnon & Saunders studios, Toby’s Travelling Circus is a stop-frame animated series that revolves around an 8-year-old boy who runs his own magical travelling circus with his friends. The series launched on Channel 5 Milkshake! (UK) in September 2012. Last month Komixx entered into an exclusive multi-book print/digital publishing deal with Random House Children’s Publishers UK (RHCP) for Toby’s Travelling Circus.

International kid’s TV channel KidsCo licenses a slate of new programming from Nelvana, including Beyblade, Grossology, Rolie Polie Olie, Jacob Two-Two and Babar. The newly acquired programming will serve as part of KidsCo’s new programming line-up when the refreshed brand debuts on-air in January 8, 2013. Further content from Nelvana will join the KidsCo line-up across Western Europe and will be announced 2013. KidsCo recently acquired the rights to My Place and the animated series Shelldon. The channel has also commissioned Matchbox Pictures to produce Zuzu and the Supernuffs, which will air in all KidsCo territories in 2013. A joint venture owned by NBCUniversal and Corus Entertainment, KidsCo is available in 18 languages and reaches 15 million subscribers worldwide.

Hoho Entertainment completes program sales for its preschool-targeted CG animated property Cloudbabies (52×10). Channels newly acquiring Cloudbabies are ABC (Australia), Hop! The stand-alone e-Book story will be available for sale at online retailers for $3.99, and will include a free collectible digital game card as well as an excerpt from Infinity Ring #1: A Mutiny in Time, Scholastic’s new multi-platform time travel series. Scholastic recently announced that plans to expand The 39 Clues series with a new spin-off cycle, The 39 Clues: Unstoppable, which is set to launch in October 2013. The 39 Clues series has 15+ million copies in print worldwide and 2+ million registered users for the online game.

Funibooks, a new unit of Nova Scotia, Canada-based Huminah Huminah Animation, releases the first 4 of 52 interactive pop-up e-Books on the Barnes & Noble Nook. Based on the animated TV short-form series I’m a Dinosaur, the new pop-up e-Book titles are I’m a Dinosaur – Apatosaurus, I’m a Dinosaur – Troodon, I’m a Dinosaur – Beipiaosaurus and I’m a Dinosaur-  T Rex. Producer Adam Mimnagh explains “We didn’t want to create a game, we wanted them to still be books but more than just text on a screen. I feel we’ve successfully merged what a traditional pop-up book is into an interactive pop-up e-Book.”
