Further blurring the line between gaming and entertainment, Microsoft reached a deal with Hollywood producer and talent manager Peter Safran to produce original shows for distribution exclusively on the Xbox 360 console, reports The New York Times. The shows will debut on the gaming platform, some as paid downloads others ad supported, before being made available elsewhere.
 

 
Better late than never. AT&T will finally launch its mobile TV service utilizing Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology this May, after months of delays. The service will initially be offered on two handsets – the Vu phone from LG and the Access from Samsung – featuring the mobile channels CBS Mobile, Comedy Central, ESPN Mobile TV, Fox Mobile, MTV, NBC 2GO, NBC News2GO and Nickelodeon. AT&T will also offer two exclusive channels it did not yet name.
 
In more mobile news, Verizon Wireless is now offering direct access to the MySpace Mobile web site via Verizon’s Web 2.0 service. Instead of having to manually type out the URL, Verizon 2.0 users can now simply click on the “connect” category from their home screen.
 
Paramount Pictures plans to make a play to get into videogame publishing focusing on casual, handheld and mobile games in particular, according to Variety. The gaming division will fall under the Paramount Digital Entertainment unit, producer of online sequel Jackass 2.5.
 
CBS is testing a HD video player on the CBS Labs section of its site, streaming clips from a selection of primetime shows in the H.264/AVC format in 480p resolution.
 
MLB.com‘s expanded line up of programming this year includes Whiparound, a live 60-minute news show airing 6-7 p.m. ET every weekday via broadband network BaseballChannel.tv. Mobile video alerts are also being added to current “Team Alert” subscribers as part of the $3.99/month subscription service.
 

 
Music-themed social network Buzznet acquired Qloud according to reports, maker of the popular “My Music” application used on Facebook, Bebo, Hi5 and Friendster founded by Steve Case. Buzznet just closed on a third round of funding in the neighborhood of $25 million from investors such as Universal Music’s Interscope Records, according to paidcontent.org.
 
User generated online encyclopedia Wikipedia logged its 10 millionth article last week. An entry about 16th century English artists Nicholas Hilliard put it over the top.
 
New York-based online video studio For Your Imagination received $1 million in seed capital from CensensusOne Ventures to tide the company over as it seeks Series A financing. FYI produces series such as DadLabs and The Shirtless Apprentice for distributors including Next New Networks and Revision3.

It looks like Barry Diller gets to keep his job. A Delaware court ruled in favor of the Chairman of IAC/Interactive Corp. in a dispute with Liberty Media Chairman John Malone over splitting IAC into 5 separate entities. The judge ruled that IAC was not required to receive the consent of Liberty for the spinoffs.
 
A Taiwan manufacturer secured an exclusive contract to build a 3G-compatible iPhone, according to reports. Analysts are predicting the first iPhone 2.0 units will ship in June, in time for the launch of an iPhone software update.
 
Just when we thought the tawdry news was behind us, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenihal sent an open letter to Craigslist demanding the community site ban prostitution ads.
 

 
Google is planning to open up its invitation-only TV Ads brokering network to allow all broadcasters participate, according to MediaPost. The system, currently in beta testing, allows marketers to log on and place bids on national cable spots for 90+ network offered by Dish Network as well as a small California cable operator.

Founder and CEO of Resolution Media Matt Spiegel will take over as CEO of OMG Digital, effective April 1. Matt will oversee digital across all OMG properties working out of the agency’s Chicago office, reporting directly to Daryl Simm, CEO of Omnicom Media Group.

 
After that Tom Cruise Scientology video and a series of anonymous attacks made the rounds last month, The Church of Scientology figured if you can’t beat em, join em. The church launched its own video-driven site with more than 80 videos about its beliefs & practices and stance on human rights issues. Yet web activists are already calling foul, claiming public officials featured in the “In Support of Human Rights” video were quoted out of context or, worse yet, completely fabricated. High drama, played out through video on the net – who says the internet is dead?
 
Clarification: The TMZ.com WAP-based mobile site launched last week is an extension of the gossip site co-owned by Telepictures Prods. and AOL rather than a joint venture between TMZ.com & The WBTVG syndicated show.
