Good morning. It’s Monday, July 24, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
The majority of writers on America’s Next Top Model went out on strike Friday, just 8 weeks before the scheduled premiere on the CW. The reality show writers have signed to be represented by the WGA West writer’s union, and plan to stay out on strike until the show signs a guild contract, recognizing the union’s basic benefits and protections for its members. The CW network said they fully expect the issues to be resolved and the show to premiere on time. While numerous writers have signed up for representation by the WGA, the guild has yet to successfully get any signed guild contracts.
Tonight’s Premiere:
Bravo: Tabloid Wars at 9p
NBC has released its Fall 2006-2007 premiere schedule:

Back on July 12th we told you of the rumors swirling around Oxygen, TNT and the off-net syndicated rights to ABC’s hit series Grey’s Anatomy. Well, scratch that – Grey’s Anatomy is headed for Lifetime. Buena Vista closed the deal with Lifetime with financial terms in the $1.2 million per episode neighborhood. Lifetime gets the show in 2009, to run in any daypart. Eventually Grey’s Anatomy will likely be paired with Desperate Housewives, which joins the network schedule on a weekly schedule starting August 5th at 11p, and then will be stripped in the fall of 2008. Reportedly, Desperate Housewives was acquired at a per ep license fee of a half million.
This fall look for NBC‘s new series to pop up briefly on its sister cable networks. Shows currently scheduled to be repurposed to Bravo, USA and Sci Fi including Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Heroes, Friday Night Lights, 20 Good Years and Kidnapped. Additionally, Friday Night Lights and new comedy 30 Rock will have full streaming episodes on the NBC website as part of the net’s First Look campaign; while Yahoo will stream episodes of Heroes.
Elsewhere at NBC, another season of America’s Got Talent has been ordered as well as Last Comic Standing. America’s Got Talent is expected to launch its second round during the upcoming midseason. Last Comic will come around again next summer.
Cable network Fuse, now available in 38 million homes, will add three new series to its schedule, says Variety:
- The Whitest Kids U Know is a sketch comedy and the network thus far has ordered 10 episodes. Fuse plans on a November launch.
- The P.A. is a documentary of sorts about a production assistant at Fuse, John Taub. The first of six episodes is scheduled to launch next month.
- The Fuse Fangoria Chainsaw Awards will pay tribute to the horror genre, in a variety of outlets including film, music and television. The awards fest is scheduled for October 22.
