FOX‘s spring schedule will move several shows to new time periods: ‘Til Death moves to Wednesdays at 930p starting March 14 following American Idol (a remarkable shot in the arm for this sitcom); The War at Home lands on Sundays at 730p beginning March 4; and Standoff premieres in its new time period on Fridays at 8p on March 30. Post NATPE Update:

  • Twentieth Television had made inroads with distribution clearances with its various national syndicated shows: the Morning Show – 65%; Temptation – 40%; Family Guy – 82%; Divorce Court – 85%; Judge Alex – 82%; and Cristina’s Court – 85%.
  • Another new court show will hit the first-run syndication ranks this fall with Jury Duty, distributed by Foster/Tailwind Entertainment with clearances in 65% of the U.S., including 23 of the top 25 markets. The show will feature Judge Bruce Cutler presiding over small claims cases with real litigants and three celebrity jurors. Produced by Radar Entertainment, the half-hour show is available on a 50/50 barter split and Trifecta Entertainment & Media will handle the national ad sales.
  • At NATPE last week Cynopsis shot a few hours of video, some of which you might find entertaining.  Check out the Cynopsis Showcase – running today is the unedited version of the Janice Dickinson interview.  Some times you just can’t believe what she says!  She’ll talk about her show The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency on Oxygen, as well as what the real world of modeling looks like, and her advice to potential new models.  All this week – new video everyday. Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report had its most-viewed episode ever on January 18 (1130p-12a) when Bill O’Reilly appeared on the show with 1.1 million A18-49 viewers and a 1.0 A18-49 rating.
 
Actor Ron Carey, known best for his role as Officer Carl Levitt on the 1970s TV show Barney Miller died of a stroke last Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at age 71. Carey appeared in several movies including Mel Brooks’ High Anxiety and History of the World Part I as well as Jack Lemmon’s comedy The Out of Towners. In addition, he appeared in many TV commercials and made a significant career out of supporting and character roles. He was survived by his wife, Sharon and his brother, Jimmy Cicenia.

~ BROADBAND & DIGITAL ~

 
The CW will now offer streaming of full episodes of many of its programs at www.CWTV.com. Those show include Beauty and the Geek, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us, Girlfriends and The Game. Episodes will be available for free, with minimal commercials, for up to four weeks after their CW telecast.
 
NBC has revealed plans for its “tV 360” digital extensions for the series Heroes which will coincide with the return of original episodes tonight. For example, viewers will be able to experience Heroes through interactive mobile content; a WAP site; a unique two-screen real-time application; and updated original content at NBC.com.

Yahoo! Studios and The Gotham Group, a management firm that represents animation and family entertainment talent and content, have formed a partnership to produce and distribute original animated content on the web. Yahoo! Studios will develop and produce content that is event-focused and user-generated for its Yahoo! Media Group brands such as Yahoo! Entertainment and Yahoo! TV.
 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

 
Anderson Cooper will remain at CNN having concluded a new multiyear deal with the network keeping him as host of CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360 with the flexibility to be an occasional contributor to CBS’ 60 Minutes.
 
FOX has unveiled three new scripted series which will be added to the spring schedule:

  • The Wedding Bells – premieres March 9 at 9p with a special preview set for March 7 at 9p after American Idol; a dramedy from executive producers David E. Kelley, Jason Katims and Jonathan Pontell about a wedding planning business owned by three sisters who help others have a memorable wedding while they sort out their own love lives.
  • The Winner – premieres with two episodes on March 4 at 830p and 9:30p. From Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, this live-action comedy centers around a 32-year old guy who still lives with his parents then meets his childhood sweetheart who inspires him to live his own life.
  • Drive – premieres April 15 at 8p; an action drama created by Tim Minear and Ben Queen about a group of people who participate in an underground cross-country road race.

HBO has picked up two new series, per Hollywood Reporter:

  • In Treatment starring Gabriel Byrne, has received an order for 40 episodes.  Byrne plays a compassionate therapist who shows a much darker side when he becomes a patient himself. The show is based on an Israeli series of the same name, and will be exec produced and written by Rodrigo Garcia, with exec producers Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.
  • 12 Miles of Bad Road is a 60-minute comedy starring Lily Tomlin, and is from Linda Bloodworth-Thomason.  Tomlin plays the matriarch of an extraordinarily wealthy Texas family. This project comes from HBO Ent and Mozark Prods.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Eastman Radio, a division of Katz Radio Group, has upped John Hesano to VP/GSM, where he will supervise all sales offices and staff in addition to the hiring and training of all sales executives. He reports to Tucker Flood, President, Eastman Radio.
 
Two promotions announced at Scripps Networks:

  • Sarah Cronan upped to newly created position of SVP/Brand Management and Scheduling at HGTV.  Additionally, she will will take over the management of the HGTV scheduling department and the use of the program assets therein.  This reorganization is designed to address an ever increasing need for program asset management and scheduling on to new platforms of distribution.
  • Robin Pate has advanced to VP/Program Scheduling at HGTV, where she will have oversight of all Program Scheduling and Program Administration functions of HGTV, reporting to Sarah Cronan.

Thursday – A18-49 Analysis: ABC captured a win Thursday night with 5.6/14 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. In second place was CBS at 4.9/12, and next was NBC 3.2/8, UNIV 2.1/5, CW 1.9/5, FOX 1.8/5 and TELE 0.4/1. ABC’s Ugly Betty began the evening at #1 with 4.5/12, followed closely by a repeat of CBS’ CSI at 4.4/11. ABC came out on top again at 9p with Grey’s Anatomy at 8.7/20. CBS had the final victory at 10p with Shark at 4.4/12.

FOX was #2 with 2.3/7, and then CBS 2.2/7, ABC 1.9/6, UNIV 1.7/5, CW 1.5/5 and TELE 0.4/1. NBC actually led a clean sweep of the evening: at 8p the network won with 1 vs. 100 at 2.5/8; NBC’s Las Vegas did best at 9p delivering a 2.9/8; then at 10p NBC came in first with an encore of Law & Order at 2.4/7 that just edged out CBS’ Numb3rs repeat at 2.3/7.
