A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC CABLE DISTRIBUTION
YOUR VIEWERS ARE ADDICTED TO CHOCOLATE! CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY JOHNNY DEPP WARNER BROS. MOVIES MAKE BASIC BETTER CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Monday, January 16, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing. CBS is prepping for the launch of a new series — a series you may not have heard anything about, and if you’re not really careful, you could miss it altogether. The Courier is called a microseries – that is the episodes are less than a minute long and will air nightly during the 9pm commercial break, beginning January 24, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Courier is about a man desperately trying to rescue his kidnapped wife by trying to figure out various clues while working against the clock. The show will be sponsored by GM’s Pontiac Torrent SUV, which will also be prominently featured in the spots. Additionally, CBS will show the episodes on its website, and will make it available to your mobile. The goal of this series is obvious – getting viewers to sit through the commercial break, with the added incentive of returning nightly. Tonight’s Premieres: *MORE GOOD STUFF*The concept of The Runner was first brought to ABC in 2000 by Live Planet, and ABC was all over it. However, following a variety of problem, not to mention 9/11, the project was back-burnered and eventually passed on. Well, it’s back. This time Live Planet, Mark Burnett Prods. and Yahoo are considering launching The Runner, tho this time on the internet. The idea is simple — a Runner attempts to make it from Point A to Point B, without being detected by you, me or anybody else playing along. Following the Runners progress on the internet, normal folks are encouraged to try to “capture” the runner and win a bounty. Nothing official on this project as yet. Just one week before NATPE conference in Las Vegas, Buena Vista Television announced it will be offering into syndication its Disney Channel shows Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens, both sold on a straight barter basis. The shows are also being sold as meeting the FCC Children’s Programming requirements, and can go toward a local station’s weekly 3-hour FCC needs. Attention Arrested Development Fans — February 10. Mark it on your calendar. That will be the two hour season (series?) finale of this show, beginning at 8p. Wonder how it will do opposite the Olympics Opening Ceremony …. Showtime and ABC have inquired about picking up the show, tho no news on this front as yet. Fox is also making a program change – Malcolm in the Middle will move to Sundays at 7p starting January 29. Replacing it on Friday nights at 830p will be a second episode of The Bernie Mac Show. The only really awkward bit about the timing, is this past Friday’s episode of Malcolm was a Part 1; Part 2 won’t air until the 29th. NBC Universal Cable Entertainment’s new mystery network Sleuth has gained carriage deals on DIRECTV as of this spring and on the DISH Network by this summer. Sleuth is a 24/7 network focusing on the crime, mystery and suspense genres. It launched on January 1 with approx 5 million subscribers, and by virtue of these two satellite deals as well as deals with Time Warner Cable among others, it will be available to 22 million subs by this summer. Two-time Academy Award winner Shelley Winters died on Saturday at her home in California. She was 85. Winters won the Oscar in 1959 for her role in The Diary of Anne Frank, and again in 1965 in A Patch of Blue. She was also nominated in 1951 for A Place in the Sun, and again in 1972 for The Poseidon Adventure in which she did all her own stunt work – swimming and all. Her career began as a “blond bombshell” in a variety of movies including The Great Gatsby and Frenchie, but that image was replaced by a reputation as a considerable character actress when she played the frumpy factory worker opposite Montgomery Clift in A Place in the Sun. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION * TCA Updates: PBS: Renewals:
