Good morning. It’s Friday, September 6, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

CBS Sports has acquired the rights to televise BIG EAST Conference college basketball games on the CBS Television Network and CBS Sports Network through a sublicensing agreement with Fox Sports. The multi-year agreement begins with the 2013-14 college basketball season and continues through 2018-19.

Beginning with the 2014-15 season, the deal provides for up to 30 men’s basketball games per year combined on CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network. CBS Sports can broadcast up to five games each year, with CBS Sports Network airing the remaining contests as part of the agreement.

In the first year of the deal for the 2013-14 season, CBS Sports will broadcast two games and CBS Sports Network will air 18 match-ups. Both CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network will have access to non-conference and conference games. Also, CBS Sports Network will air a minimum of two women’s games per year, as well as select Olympic sports.

On the Air

This weekend, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will enjoy a banner year with a class that includes Gary Payton, Bernard King, Dawn Staley, Roger Brown, Richie Guerin and Brazilian star Oscar Schmidt, Rick Pitino, Guy Lewis, Jerry Tarkanian and Sylvia Hatchell, NBA executive Russ Granik and E.B. Henderson, a pioneer from the sport’s earliest days who’s known as the “Grandfather of Black Basketball.”

Attendance at the Hall in Springfield, Mass. is up over 27 percent, its “60 Days of Summer” lead-up promotion pulled in new sponsors and casual fans, and its partnership with the nearby Mohegan Sun casino will give the Hall an added boost for enshrinement weekend. NBA TV will televise the ceremonies.

She may not yet have a first place win on a NASCAR track, but Danica Patrick chalked up a win in the kitchen, besting Tiki Barber, Chuck Zito and Natalie Coughlin in a cooking competition on Food Network’s Chopped. Patrick swept the competition and took home $10,000 for the COPD Foundation.

Sportfolio, Bloomberg TV’s weekly sports business show, kicked off its season last night with an NFL Special with Browns CEO Joe Banner, former Raiders CEO Amy Trask and NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash.

Sports Illustrated debuted a new weekly online video program, “Pro Football Now” on Thursday, with Maggie Gray hosting, along with former Giants WR Amani Toomer. The show will run every week throughout the season.

CBS Sports Radio will have five new shows for the NFL season. On Saturdays, CBS Sports Radio anchor Rich Ackerman hosts Eye on College Football from 12:00-8:00PM.  The show includes reports from all of the top college football games as well as interviews with coaches, players, broadcasters and writers. In addition, the network’s Jody McDonald will join Rich from 6:00-8:00PM every Saturday to break down the competition, and continues with his solo show until 10:00PM.

Later on Saturday nights, Adam the Bull hosts Eye on Fantasy Football from 10:00PM- midnight. The show is co-hosted by CBSSports.com senior fantasy football writers, Dave Richard and Jamey Eisenberg.

Mike Francesa’s Football Sunday will now air nationally on Sunday mornings.  Beginning on Sunday, September 8, the program can be heard from 9:00-11:00AM.  Following “Mike Francesa’s Football Sunday,” and also starting Sunday, September 8, CBS Sports Radio will simulcast CBSSports.com’s Fantasy Football Today show from 11:00AM- 12:00PM. The program will be hosted by the site’s Jason Horowitz.  The show will provide late breaking fantasy football news. Finally, from 12:00-8:00PM, and beginning on Sunday, September 8, Rich Ackerman will additionally host Eye on Football. The show will offer a national perspective on all of the NFL games as well as interviews and reports. Similarly to their Saturday College focused program, Jody McDonald will join Rich for the final two hours of the show, every Sunday.

Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Cincinnati Bengals ended the season on a high note drawing 693,000 viewers to the finale Tuesday night on HBO, the most watched episode of the season.

College football was off to a solid start on all the ESPN Networks last weekend. Overall, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPNEWS combined to reach nearly 73,000,000 viewers for game telecasts from Thursday, Aug. 29 to Monday, Sept. 2.

The NFL unveiled its fourth year of women’s fashions at New York’s Grand Central terminal. The newest crop turns football gear into high fashion, as they merge team styles with luxury designs. Licensed NFL clothing has been revamped to incorporate current trends, feminine details and flattering silhouettes. The “Back to Football” fashion event was presented by NFL Women’s Apparel and 2013 Creative Fashion Director, Phillip Bloch, in collaboration with Vogue magazine. Fashions for all 32 teams were on display, as well as a special Super Bowl XLVIII look.

Also along the fashion trail, Covergirl is partnering with the NFL to pitch a line of NFL-inspired nail glosses to female fans.

Nike continues its global expansion as the new official uniform supplier of Great Britain’s athletics team, following a breakdown of talks between the team and incumbent supplier adidas. Nike already has personal relationships with a number of UK athletes, including double Olympic and world champion Mo Farah. Adidas has supplied Team GB outfits since 2005.

The announcement will come Sunday morning.

Coaches Cabana, the new second screen platform launched this past weekend by former NFL and Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer, former CBS Sports head Neal Pilson and partners Joe Tippens and Mike Henry had 8 million Twitter impressions in its first weekend with six games being tested.
