Cynopsis: Kids!
10/29/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, October 29, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Nickelodeon UK acquires a new animated short-form preschool series from Blue-Zoo, which will air on Nick Jr channel next year.  Olive the Ostrich is a multi-platform series that revolves around the imaginative adventures of Olive, a young Ostrich.  Blue-Zoo is looking to kids to help them create the animated series by using real kid’s drawings to create backgrounds.  The website for the program is designed to encourage kids to explore their imaginations and scan and upload their designs, create props and characters online to replace the backgrounds in the episodes with their own designs.  Kids can also make their own storybooks online using their images and various Olive posies. Additionally, the site will offer areas to help spark creativity and help develop art and storytelling.  Big Tent Entertainment has signed on to develop Olive-based apps and ebooks.

Looks like the sale of Hit Entertainment is drawing closer, with the clearest suitors to being Mattel, Hasbro, Disney and Viacom, per The Telegraph.  Hit’s parent company Apax Partners, a private equity company, is set to name either UBS or Bank of America Merrill Lynch to manage the sale.  Contrary to recent speculation that Hit would sell off its Thomas & Friend brand, it now appears as though Hit could be acquired in full. Apax is hoping to get upwards of $1.5 billion.  Other suitors that have been linked to discussions to specifically acquire Thomas & Friends from Hit Entertainment include Chorion and the itsy bitsy Entertainment Company.
