Good morning. It’s Friday, May 12, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

Like it or not the video game industry has not only become a significant part of our culture, but the US economy as well.  According to Video Games: Serious Business for America’s Economy, a new study conducted by Dr. Robert Crandall, the Brookings Institution and Prof. J. Gregory Sidak, Georgetown University Law Center, in 2004 video the game industry contributed $18 billion to the US economy.  Sales of video game software accounted for $8.2 billion and 144,000 full-time jobs in 2004, with sales expected to reach $15 billion in 2010, and 250,000+ jobs by 2009.  Additionally, the report attributes game industry technological innovation for advancements in areas of defense and medical devices, as well as in training, education, and productivity, through technology transfers to other industries. The study was funded by the Entertainment Software Association.
