Good morning. It’s Friday, June 29, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
The Weinstein Company, The Gotham Group, and the Chungcheongnam-do government of South Korea have teamed up to produce and distribute animated feature films. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Weinstein Company has also entered into a multi-year first look deal with The Gotham Group. Under the pact, the animated movies produced will be based on The Gotham Group’s roster of clients, as well as from outside sources, and will be co-produced in the Chungcheongnam-do Province of South Korea. The Weinstein Company, the Media Center of Chungcheongnam-do, and The Gotham Group will serve as producers on all films. The Weinstein Company handling worldwide distribution on all titles produced under the deal, with the Chungcheongnam-do government of South Korea providing support in certain Asian markets. The organizations were was brought together, and the deal was structured by, Jon Vein on behalf of The Gotham Group, and Mariel Clemensen of Clemensen Capital.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Author and illustrator Jim Benton’s kid-targeted book series Franny K Stein, Mad Scientist, will be made into movie, according to Reuters. The movie rights to the property have been optioned by East of Doheny, an independent production company that will team and the Gotham Group, who together plan to produce an animated Franny K Stein, Mad Scientist feature film. Aladdin Paperback, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, will publish the seventh book in the Franny K. Stein, Mad Scientist series, The Fran with Four Brains, this August 2007. Benton is the man behind the It’s Happy Bunny series as well as others.
HandMade Film’s upcoming movie project Eloise in Paris, will be produced by Charles Shyer, says Variety. Shyer is also set to co-write the movie, which is based, of course, on author Kay Thompson and illustrator Hilary Knight’s Eloise books, which is currently slated for a late 2008 release.

STONE SOUP
Game advertising spending in the US is expected to surpass $2 billion in 2012, from just $370 million in 2006, according to Electronic Gaming in the Digital Home: Game Advertising, a new report from Parks Associates. Overall that would put game advertising’s “compound annual growth rate” (CAGR) at 33%, which the report points out is significantly higher than any other advertising media, including TV, radio, print, and the internet. Among the range of game advertising methods, it is in-game advertising that is predicted to realize the biggest increase, growing from $55 million in 2006 to $800+ million in 2012, with “dynamic in-game advertising” (DIGA) in PC, console, mobile, and casual games will raise from 27% of the in-game ad market in 2006 to 84% in 2012. This ad spending growth, according to the Parks Associates, will be tied to the industry’s ability, “to address several looming challenges, including lack of economy, lack of industry standards, and media fragmentation.”
EXECUTIVE MOVES
FremantleMedia Enterprises has upped Jamie Lynn to VP/Sales, Middle East, Israel, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, South Africa and Africa. Lynn, who had been Sales Director, adds the African emerging markets to the range of territories that he manages.
