10 o’clock was a busy hour on Wednesday night:

  • The season’s premiere episode of Rescue Me on FX Wednesday night at 10p drew in 2.8 million viewers. The encore which aired immediately after at 11p, drew in another million viewers.
  • Elsewhere on Comedy Central, the debut of Lil Bush attracted 2.1 million total viewers at 1030p, up from the 1.7 million viewers the lead in of South Park provided.
  • And over on Bravo, the debut of Top Chef: Miami at 10p drew in 1.4 million A18-49 viewers and 2.0 million total viewers.

Program Partners has sold the miniseries Terminal City to the Sundance Channel beginning early next year. The ten-episode series, starring Maria Del Mar and Gil Bellows, is about a woman’s battle with breast cancer and, as her body and life changes, she becomes a national reality TV star. The series is produced by Crescent Entertainment and Big Dog Productions.

HGTV, with the help of architect and interior designer Vern Yip, will design rooms to reward deserving people in the new series Deserving Design. A sneak preview of the show will air September 9 at 10p and the series will air in its regular weekly time slot on Wednesdays at 9p starting September 12. Vern, who is also a HGTV Design Star judge, will travel the U.S. seeking people with great personal stories who need a lift and a room makeover. Each episode will also show Vern surprise the deserving family or individual with a second room design.

Reveille and Twentieth Television are reportedly on track to develop a new syndicated series for Fall 2008 called The Mom Show, per Hollywood Reporter.  The show will have a group of celebrity mom hosts, who will talk from one mom to another about parenting kids of all ages, financial issues, cooking and other family-related topics among themselves and with guests.

NBC Universal has changed the name of its former NBC Universal Television Studio to Universal Media Studios, which, according to the company, more fully describes the studio’s mission as a content provider for television and digital platforms. Universal Media Studios is headed by the recently named Katherine Pope as President, as well as Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, Co-Chairmen, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios.

Bravo has established Bravo Media, a new worldwide multimedia content company that will provide organic extensions based on the network’s linear programs. Bravo Media will encompass talent management, publishing, merchandising, Bravo To Go wireless product, Bravo Experience, digital television, radio and international. The first partnership formed by Bravo Media is with Pangea Management Group which will help the budding careers of Bravo talent and personalities from the network’s docu-dramas and reality series. One of the initial projects will be a cookbook based on the Top Chef series done in association with Melcher Media, Top Chef branded knives from Master Cutlery and a Top Chef mobile game created by LimeLife.

Universal Media Studios will produce the U.S English-language version of the Colombian telenovela Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso/Without Breasts There Is No Paradise (working title) for NBC primetime while a completely separate Spanish edition will be produced NBC Universal’s Telemundo Network.  The telenovela is based on a true-to-life novel by the same name that tells the story of Catalina, a young woman seduced by a world of easy money, who agonizes that her figure may be preventing her from a better life.

Casting Call: Natural 9 Entertainment, the producers of the upcoming Fox Reality series The Search for the Next Elvira, will begin looking for a new Mistress of the Dark on Friday, July 13 during an open “casket” call at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. Bill Burke has joined CBS Consumer Products, which is the product licensing and merchandising unit of CBS Entertainment, as VP/Marketing. Bill comes to CBS from HIT Entertainment where he served as VP/Brand Management.
Don Buchwald & Associates, Inc. has tapped Tony D. Burton as a Talent Agent for the talent and literary agency’s Host/Broadcast department. Based in New York, Tony will report directly to Don Buchwald. Previously, Tony was the Senior Segment Producer for ESPN’s live morning show Cold Pizza.

WEDNESDAY – A18-49 AnalysisFOX’s quick footwork landed the network at #1 Wednesday night with 3.6/12 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. FOX owned the first two hours of primetime as the two-hour So You Think You Can Dance came in first at 8p with a 3.2/11 and tapped an even higher 4.0/12 at 9p. The debut of NBC’s Last Comic Standing was second overall at 9p with a 2.5/7 and won the 10p hour with a 3.2/9.
