TV5MONDE and Dish Network have partnered to launch the first US kid-targeted French-language TV channel, Tivi5MONDE, nationwide this week. Tivi5MONDE is being offered to Dish subscribers as part of its French language package ($19.99) that already includes TV5MONDE USA. Aimed at kids and tweens (4-14), Tivi5MONDE will offer a range of French-language live-action, animated, educational and entertainment programming, including: Les Daltons (The Daltons, 78×7) about four not so smart brothers in the Wild West trying to escape from prison; Galactik Football (Galactic Soccer, 78×26)  fantastic creates with special powers compete in the most popular sport in the galaxy; Marsupilami  Houba Houba! (52×26)  the series follows the adventures of a young boy, Hector, who is sent to live with his aunt for one year during which he becomes friends with the iconic Marsupilami; Chasseurs de Dragons (Dragon Hunters, 52×26)  the series follows best friends Lian-Chu and Gwizdo as they hunt the world for dragons that everywhere.

LICENSING

Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) and the PGA of America team to launch the new PGA Authentic Jr. line of licensed products, which will debut at golf course pro shops nationwide in May 2012. The first products from the line will include youth apparel including shirts, outerwear, shorts, skorts and hats for boys and girls. This line was created and distributed by Garb, a leading manufacturer of kid’s golf apparel. The products were officially unveiled to the golf industry at the 59th PGA Merchandise Show this week in Orlando. CNE is the exclusive youth licensing agent for The PGA. The licensing deal is one part of a larger, long-standing relationship between Turner Sports and The PGA and will continue through 2019.

MARKETING

With one billion total views on YouTube now under its belt, Collective Digital Studio’s The Annoying Orange will be roasted by other YouTube stars in a special episode debuting today, Friday, January 27, at www.youtube.com/realannoyingorange. Others that have earned the one billion YouTube total views milestone include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Rihanna. Roasting The Annoying Orange will be iJustine (Justine Ezarik) and The Fine Bros (Ben and Rafi Fine), Kassem G (Kassem Gharaibeh), Tobuscus (Toby Turner), Mystery Guitarman (Joe Penna), Barats And Bereta (Luke Barats and Joe Bereta), Greg Benson, Smosh (Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla), DeStorm (DeStorm Power) and Buck Hollywood (Michael Buckley).

MORE KIDS STUFF

Nickelodeon kicks off the seventh season of Dora the Explorer with all new interactive adventures during a special premiere week Monday, January 30  Friday, February 3, at 10. The week of new Dora episodes will feature Andy Garcia as the voice of famed literary character, Don Quixote, and Jason Alexander as the voice of a greedy owl. The new seasons also introduces 11-year-old actress Fatima Ptacek as the new voice of Dora the Explorer. Additionally, the new season will incorporate a refreshed and enhanced look for Dora the Explorer. Fatima, who is fluent in English and Spanish and is currently studying Mandarin Chinese, has appeared on TV series including Sesame Street, A Gifted Man, and Royal Pains, as well as some 60 TV commercials, and is also a model.  She also has lead roles in several upcoming feature films, including Anything’s Possible, Tio Papi, The Miracle of Spanish Harlem and Curfew.

The Hub will host special Valentine’s Day weekend marathon, My Little Pony Fan Favorites Mare-a-thon, on Saturday, February 11, 6-11a (encore on Valentine’s Day, 8a-1p). The marathon will culminate with the premiere of a new Valentine’s Day-themed episode, Hearts and Hooves Day. The Hub is inviting fans of the animated series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic to go to www.hubworld.com/weheartponies and select their favorite episodes, from a list of 20, which they’d like to see included in the five-hour programming event at.

Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment will release Victorious: The Complete Second Season exclusively at Target on March 18, 2012.  The two-disc set includes all 12 episodes from the second season of the Nickelodeon live-action series Victorious, as well as additional music and bloopers. Created by Nickelodeon Home Entertainment, the DVD title is distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment. Additionally, for a limited time, consumers can receive $1-Off Nickelodeon Gak or Floam with the purchase of Victorious: The Complete Second Season DVD.

LA-based Melody Street, a music-based brand with a mission to introduce kids to the world of music, will launch Mozart Interactive (www.melodystreet.com/interactive/mozart), a kid aimed interactive video and free app for iOS devices in February 2012. Based on the musical instrument characters from MelodyStreet.com, Mozart Interactive offers kids lessons in music orchestration and lets serve as “conductors” of the story they’re watching, allowing them to choose actions that control where the narrative goes and ultimately affecting its outcome. Throughout the app kids can create as many as 81 unique videos to save and share with friends/family. The app was created by Melody Street and the technology company Interlude.

Episode 1 of the Star Wars saga is not just showing up in 3D at movie theaters.  Titan Magazines is releasing Totally: The Phantom Menace magazine, including a 3D section, in the UK and Ireland on February 2, 2012. The 32-page official movie souvenir magazine includes a range of features, puzzles, and games, and ten pages in 3D, including a new action comic strip. There is also a double-page 3D pull-put poster featuring some iconic Star Wars characters form the movies brought to life. Of course the issue of Totally: The Phantom Menace magazine comes with free 3D glasses, as well as a free C-3PO Grabber Arm and collectible Star Wars stickers.

RATINGS

Cartoon Network‘s launch of its new live-action series Level Up on Tuesday, January 24, 8p, becomes the best live-action series premiere in the network’s history among Total Viewers (2,085,000), K2-11 (1,195,000), K6-11 (879,000), Tweens 9-14 (758,000) and Boys 2-11 (820,000), Boys 6-11 (661,000), and Boys 9-14 (570,000).  The series debut was also the top telecast in its time period on all TV among K2-11, Boys 2-11, Boys 6-11, and Boys 9-14. The premiere was also the top telecast on TV for the day with Boys 9-14. Additionally, a Level Up-themed online game at CartoonNetwork.com launched in tandem with the movie pilot on November 23, 2011, Maldark: Conqueror of All Worlds, was Cartoon Network’s top game launch of 2011, averaging 1.6 million monthly uniques and 8.9+ million game plays to date.
