After airing only four episodes, FX has renewed new original drama The Americans for a 13-episode second season. Starring Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich and created by Joe Weisberg, the series January 30 premiere was the most-watched debut of any FX series ever with 5.11 million total viewers. The nine remaining episodes will air Wednesdays at 10p with the season finale on May 1.  To celebrate the series’ renewal, FX will air a marathon of the first five episodes back-to-back starting at 10p on March 1.  The Americans is produced by Fox Television Studios and FX Productions.

Nielsen Co. is doing nothing less than expanding the definition of television by instituting a comprehensive plan to capture all video viewing including broadband, Xbox and iPads.  Timed to the start of the next broadcast TV season in September, Nielsen expects to have new hardware and software tools ready for the approximately 23,000 TV homes it samples. The measurement will also capture viewership from so-called “over-the-top” television programming delivered via broadband to a TV set. For now, Nielsen will count TV-connected devices such as Microsoft’s Xbox, Apple TV and Roku’s set-top; iPads or computers will be added later. Nielsen says its eventual goal will attempt to capture video viewing of any kind from any source.

VH1 adds a trio of new shows to its spring 2013 programming slate: The Gossip Game from Magilla Entertainment, District Media and Monami Entertainment premieres Monday, April 1 at 9p; I’m Married To A… produced by Fishbowl Worldwide Media debuts Sunday, April 21 at 8p; and the five-hour special VH1’s 100 Sexiest Artists will air Tuesday, March 5 at 9p.  T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle is also back for a third season beginning Monday, April 8 at 10p and is produced by 51 Minds and Category 5 Entertainment

Programming Alerts: This Saturday, Centric airs Stevie Wonder with Friends: Celebrating a Message of Peace at 9p.  The event marks the 67th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Organization and features performances by Sting, Wyclef Jean, Valerie Simpson and more hosted by Malcolm Jamal-Warner.  The program also airs on BET Sunday, March 3 at 11a.

Also on Saturday, IFC will air the 28th annual Film Independent Spirit Awards at 10p with on-air sponsors including Capital One, Lincoln, Outlook.com, Stella Artois and T-Mobile.

A new season of Oprah: Where Are They Now? returns to OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network’s schedule on Tuesday, March 19 at 10p.  The series features updates on celebs such as Dennis Rodman, Gennifer Flowers, Marion Jones and Sinbad.

Another sign NBC’s comedy Up All Night might be a goner: star Will Arnett has agreed to star in Greg Garcia’s untitled half-hour pilot at CBS.  Garcia is writing and serving as EP and veteran director James Burrows is on board to manage the multi-camera effort.  Arnett is the first person to be cast with CBS Television Studios producing. This CBS project is in second position to Up All Night for Arnett.  Apparently NBC execs are considering nixing plans to keep the struggling series alive, following star Christina Applegate’s recent departure.

WE tv approved a new docu-series, Glam & Gold starring Olympic Gold Medalist Sanya Richards-Ross and her husband, NFL star and two-time Super Bowl champ, Aaron Ross.  Production on the six, one-hour episodes is underway in Austin and Jacksonville and is slated to premiere this summer.  The series joins WE tv’s popular African American lineup and is produced for the network by Good Clean Fun.
