He Didn’t Survive This One: CBS Television Distribution cancels Jeff Probst’s short-lived talk show after one season. The popular Survivor host won’t return for a second season but it will finish out this one. The cancellation comes on the heels of Twentieth Television’s cancellation of Ricki Lake last week.
CBS grew revenues in the fourth quarter of 2012 to $3.7 billion, up 2% from the year-ago period. The rise came in part from a 3% increase in ad revenue due to higher political and network advertising, CBS said. Affiliate and subscription fees rose 9%, driven by growth at the cable networks.
Here, She is: The Miss America Organization strikes a new three-year deal with ABC and will also bring the event back to Atlantic City. The network said this year’s telecast enlarged its audience for the third year in a row and became the most-watched broadcast of the pageant since 2004.
As part of the marketing for American Idol, the show launches a cross-country relay of the “Idol microphone” on March 1 from New York to Los Angeles, in partnership with sponsors Ford, Coca-Cola and AT&T. The 5,000-mile relay should last two weeks, with the microphone slated to arrive in Los Angeles on March 13 for the Top 10 live performance show that night at 8p on Fox.
VOD network iN DEMAND rolls outs a national campaign to promote the movie awards season on its service in advance of the Oscars on February 24. Plans include social media, sweepstakes, on-air promos and online awards-themed content on sites such as TV Guide and Indiewire to drive consumers to current nominees and past winners on the on-demand service. iN DEMAND says flicks such as Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Frankenweenie, Marvel’s The Avengers, The Master, Prometheus, Skyfall, and Flight are available.
ABC trades time periods for several shows starting with reality series Celebrity Wife Swap returning Tuesday February 26 at 8p, an hour earlier from last year’s time slot. It’ll serve as the lead-in for cooking competition show The Taste, which moves back an hour to 9p. In addition, the network moves comedy Happy Endings to Friday nights with a new slate of episodes starting March 29 at 8p. Happy Endings had previously aired on Tuesdays.
E! plans a special looking into the home lives of actor/rapper Romeo Miller and Jamaican/American singing star Sean Kingston. Called Fame in the Family, the show premieres February 17 at 10:30p.
Good Morning Glory: On the morning show circuit, GMA ranked tops in the first full week of the February sweeps with 5.4 million total viewers and 2 million adults 25 to 54, besting NBC’s Today with 4.7 million total viewers and nearly 2 million adults 25 to 54, and CBS This Morning with 3.1 million total viewers and about 1.2 million adults 25 to 54, ABC said, quoting Nielsen figures. Meanwhile, CBS This Morning expanded its audience, adding 440,000 viewers compared to the same week last year, according to Nielsen.

In advance of the return of Psych to USA, the network will run a “social, real-time” party starting at midnight tonight and ending on Saturday at 6a. During that so-called “Slumber party” the cast will participate in second screen trivia and giveaways, while fans can have the chance to record and upload short videos touting the show that may run on air. The social media “event” precedes the launch of the seventh season of the series on February 27 at 10p.
Here TV brings back sex and dating advice show Threesome for a second season, debuting February 22.
TV Land snags Larry David’s Emmy-nominated HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm for a syndicated run. The show begins its run on TV Land with marathons slated for February 16, 17 and 18. After that, the show runs in a regular 2a time slot starting February 19.
CBS teams up with AXS to provide promotion, content and programming to the new live event TV network. AXS currently counts 38 million subscribers, and is a joint venture between Mark Cuban Companies, AEG, Creative Artists Agency and Ryan Seacrest Media. Under the terms of the multi-year deal, CBS will provide live event programming to AXS TV.
Emmy-nominated actor Jason Ritter from Parenthood is slated to star in the Fox pilot Friends and Family, adapted from the BBC series Gavin & Stacey, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX saw a slight dip this Wednesday among A18-49 but still remained in first place with a 4.3/13, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, the network’s American Idol continued to dominate with a 4.3/13 for the two-hour slot, nearly double CBS’ Survivor numbers at 2.4/7 for 1.5 hours. Despite Idol’s strength though, ABC’s comedy juggernaut Modern Family pulled out a 3.8/11 at 9 pm, a strong showing against the reality program. At 10 p, NBC’s Chicago Fire and CBS’ CSI tied with a 1.9/5, followed by ABC’s Nashville with a close 1.8/5.
