Cynopsis
4/27/07
Good morning, it’s Friday, April 27, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Jack Valenti, 85, former head of the Motion Picture Assn. of America for nearly forty years and the person who instituted the modern movie ratings system, died yesterday. He had left Johns Hopkins University Medical Center on Wednesday where he was hospitalized after suffering a stroke. Jack was regarded as the staunchest protector of Hollywood copyrights in the industry. He lobbied tirelessly for the controversial Digital Millennium Copyright Act passed in 1998, arguing the internet would be the downfall of the entertainment industry if left unchecked. A private mass to honor his life and achievements will be held in Washington, the date and details will be forthcoming from his family.
