“Today” anchor Hoda Kotb is leaving the NBC morning show early next year to spend more time with her family, and transitioning to a new role at NBC News – her work home for 26 years. “So many of my professional relationships have become some of my most cherished friendships. Savannah: my rock. Jenna: my ride-or-die. Al: my longest friend at 30 Rock. Craig, Carson, Sheinelle and Dylan: my family. Libby, Mazz and Talia: my fearless leaders,” Kotb wrote in an email to staff. “I will miss each and every one of you at ‘Today’ desperately.”

More backlash for Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” came in the form of a letter from Erik Menendez’s wife Tammi on behalf of the extended family of the brothers, convicted in 1996 of killing their parents and sentenced to life in prison. “It is sad that Ryan Murphy, Netflix and all the others involved in this series do not have an understanding of the impact of years of physical, emotional and sexual abuse,” said the letter, which called the series, “a phobic, gross, anachronistic, serial episodic nightmare.” The letter came days after the brothers slammed the series as “rooted in horrible and blatant lies.” Netflix will offer another take on the true crime tale with documentary “The Menendez Brothers,” dropping Monday, October 7.

Hours after jury selection started, Newsmax settled a defamation lawsuit brought by voting systems provider Smartmatic in connection with the channel’s airing of false claims about its software after the 2020 election. “Newsmax is pleased to announce it has resolved the litigation brought by Smartmatic through a confidential settlement,” said a spokesperson for Newsmax.

Paramount Global could end its reliance on Nielsen for measurement, reports Variety. With no deal in sight ahead of the expiration of their contract on September 30, Paramount Global is exploring its options as it seeks to cut costs. “Disengaging from Nielsen is not our first choice, and we remain hopeful for a resolution,” said John Halley, President of Paramount Advertising, in a recent letter to media agencies, adding, “Nielsen’s costs as a percentage of Paramount ad revenue have quintupled over significant parts of our business over the last years; in certain instances, Nielsen’s fees already exceed the total advertising revenue of the network being measured. This has led us to conclude that the model, as proposed, is not workable, and that the cost structure requires re-engineering.”

Netflix has ordered a limited series adaptation of “East of Eden,” written and executive produced by Zoe Kazan. Kazan is the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 classic film version based on John Steinbeck’sn1952 saga. Anonymous Content and Fifth Season are co-producing the seven-episode series, starring Christopher Abbott, Florence Pugh, Mike Faist and Hoon Lee. “Zoe’s thoughtful and artistic vision pays homage to her grandfather’s revered film adaptation while beautifully honoring and introducing new audiences to a true canon of American literature. Mary J. Blige returns to Lifetime to executive produce more new original movies. The first, set for a 2025 debut as part of the network’s Voices of a Lifetime slate, was inspired by Blige’s hit Family Affair, and continues the love story from Lifetime’s 2023 movies “Mary J.    NEW & RETURNING SHOWS

The premiere of the second half of season five of hit drama “Yellowstone” – the drama’s first original episode in 22 months – will air Sunday, November 10 at 10p on CBS, two hours after its debut on home base Paramount. (The exact timing will depend on the length of CBS’ NFL broadcast.) Series star Kevin Costner announced in June he will not be back.

HGTV’s “Rock the Block” is back in spring 2025 with a twist. “Ratings juggernaut ‘Rock the Block’ delivered HGTV’s top series three years in a row and appeals to millions of fans in our key demos,” said Betsy Ayala, Interim Head of Content, HGTV. “We incorporate a surprise element each season, and this season we’re taking the format to the next level by mixing returning block vets and some first-time contenders to amp up the competition and create some unexpected twists.”

HBO’s “Get Millie Back” launches Monday, November 25 at 9p. The limited series follows an ex-Scotland Yard detective who returns to Kingston to work missing persons cases, and finds herself mired in family messes.

“Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” makes its debut Thursday, November 14 at 8p on Food Network. The competition series blends legendary storytelling and edible creations.

Lingerie Fighting Championships, which focuses on producing mixed martial arts events featuring attractive female fighters, inked a broadcast deal with Maybacks Global Entertainment that will see their events and reality series air on male-skewing Toro TV. “Lingerie Fighting Championships is a great fit for Toro TV,” said Chris Giordano, Chairman and President of Maybacks Global parent company Authentic Holdings. “Ring of Combat, our initial entrée into combat sports, has been a great success with its audience multiplying dramatically with each show.” Lingerie Fighting Championships has previously aired on Tubi TV and more recently Fubo.

AMC Networks is going big with the season two premiere of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.” A weeklong global premiere event kicks off with the September 29 US premiere on AMC and AMC+, followed the next day by premieres in more than a dozen countries around the world on AMC Networks’ and partner platforms. There will also be a red carpet event in Madrid, Spain attended by series stars and creators on October 2. “Serial Killer Capital: Los Angeles” debuts Sunday, October 20 at 7p. The two-hour special looks at brutal murders in South LA from the 1980s through to early 2000s.

NewsNation will present “Clinton: Portrait of a Presidency,” an original documentary produced by NewsNation Films, on Sunday, November 3 at 8p. The two-hour film, examining an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity in America under the leadership of President Bill Clinton, will be simulcast by The CW nationwide.

The report demonstrates how cost-effective real-time streaming can open up profitable ILS-driven business models to a wide range of streaming companies, enabling them to augment subscription or ad-based strategies that struggle to deliver sustainable revenue growth. “The media industry is rapidly pushing for real-time interactivity, but costs and impractical solutions make it hard for growing streaming companies and content creators to engage with their audiences on a deeper level,” said Eric Tang, Founder of ILS Livepeer Studio. “Livepeer Studio makes high-quality interactive live-streaming achievable to any content owner or entertainment brand, sidestepping the eye-watering costs of traditional cloud providers while making it easier than ever to build, engage, and monetize rapidly growing streaming communities.”

Pluto TV has launched a new marketing campaign starring Gary Sinise (“CSI: NY”) that builds on the Couch Potato creative that debuted during Super Bowl LVIII, which has increased unaided awareness for Pluto TV by nearly 15% YoY. The first spot airied during “Thursday Night Football,” and features the service’s reality and crime collection.

Fubo has launched its Multiview feature in beta on select Roku devices. The beta feature is expected to launch on additional Roku devices in the coming weeks. Fubo is the first virtual MVPD to bring user-configurable multiviewing to Roku, allowing viewers to select and stream up to four live channels simultaneously. Multiview is customizable and available for all Fubo channels.

Integral Ad Science has added an enhancement to its YouTube advertising measurement capabilities. The new feature, misinformation detection, allows advertisers to verify the safety and suitability of their YouTube campaigns. Advertisers can access video-level insights into content adjacent to their ads with a solution that complements YouTube’s existing brand safety measures, and is available in over 30 languages.

Nielsen’s Gracenote is teaming with Amagi to simplify the process of getting programming onto major FAST platforms and in front of viewers worldwide. Content partners can now access select Gracenote products through Amagi’s channel creation solution, for speedier ingestion of programs and schedules into the Gracenote ecosystem. This integration streamlines FAST go-to-market, allowing for more efficient content management and delivery, and ensuring that publishers’ content metadata is normalized and enriched at the earliest stages of the FAST channel creation process and then quickly passed to Gracenote’s distribution network. Amagi customers will also enjoy greater program discoverability on FAST platforms and increased advertising monetization. “FAST represents the next chapter of streaming and content metadata is the key driver of engagement fueling the evolution,” said Tim Cutting, Chief Revenue Officer at Gracenote. “Our collaboration with Amagi holistically helps content publishers accelerate FAST go-to-market so they can capitalize on the opportunity and drive monetization now.”

IAB Tech Lab announced the launch of the PAIR (Publisher Advertiser Identity Reconciliation) protocol, offering a privacy-centric approach for advertisers and publishers to match and activate their first-party audiences for advertising use cases without relying on third-party cookies. Google initially donated the PAIR protocol to IAB Tech Lab, and the Rearc Addressability and Privacy Enhancing Technologies working group further developed it into an open standard that enables interoperability between data clean rooms and allows all DSPs to adopt the protocol for enhanced privacy-safe audience targeting. IAB Tech Lab will be updating the PAIR prebid module so it can be leveraged by all Data Clean Rooms and DSPs, as well as publishing open-source reference implementation to support adoption by publishers. “PAIR is designed as an open standard to help advertisers and publishers choose their preferred Data Clean Room and DSP partners,” said Shailley Singh, EVP, Product, and COO, IAB Tech Lab. “It’s an important step forward for privacy-first advertising while maintaining the ability for advertisers to target and activate audiences effectively and for publishers to monetize their audience without data leakage.” The PAIR protocol is open for public comment until October 25.

Yahoo DSP announced a new integration that enables advertisers who leverage Snowflake Data Clean Rooms to seamlessly onboard their data onto the Yahoo DSP, unlocking the ability to match the data against Yahoo ConnectID and create personalized campaigns. The integration supports advertiser use cases that accelerate and optimize campaign performance, including improved personalization and precise user-level targeting on the open internet in near real-time. Additionally, it supports ad suppression to ensure campaigns reach the intended audience without over-delivery, while protecting consumer privacy.
