NewsNation is going 24/7 beginning June 1. The cable network will launch the final portion of its live news line-up with the “NewsNation Now” on Saturdays and Sundays from 4-7p. “This milestone marks the culmination of our efforts to continue expanding and growing the network since launching it in 2020,” said Sean Compton, President of Nexstar’s Networks division. “It reaffirms our commitment to delivering unbiased news coverage.”

Half of global consumers say that by 2035 they’d like to have an AI clone of themselves to take care of shopping, admin, and communications tasks on their behalf. That’s according to a study from dentsu, which also says 4 in 5 global consumers expect that by 2035 they will need to shift some of their daily activities due to how the climate will change. What does that mean for brands? “An AI-filtered world might seem far into the future, but it is already becoming a reality today and consumers’ interactions with brands will fundamentally shift within the next 10 years,” said Jeff Greenspoon, Global Practice President, Integrated Solutions, dentsu. “Business leaders and brand builders must start preparing for this new landscape today with both technology and creativity. These provocative insights are the starting point to guide people-centered transformation efforts that create long-term brand opportunities, because those that push the boundaries to innovate now will undoubtedly see the biggest impact through the next decade.”

Drama Is the predominant genre among LGTQ+ audiences, capturing 54% of total watch hours, according to Revry report, “LGBTQ+ Streaming Insights Q1 2024.” Comedy makes up 31% of total watch hours, while documentaries account for 9% of total watch hours. Viewers lean towards romantic themes – dramatic romance (25.9%), romantic comedies (16.4%), and dramedies (10.9%) collectively attract over 50% of the total viewership. “This data can help brands craft campaigns that are culturally attuned and can foster meaningful engagements with the LGBTQ+ audience,” said Damian Pelliccione, cofounder and CEO at Revry. “By emphasizing the importance of authentic narratives, relatable characters, and integration of humor and warmth in creatives, brands can meet queer audiences where they are with content that is contextually relevant.”

The CW canceled “Walker” after four seasons. Star and EP Jared Padalecki broke the news on Instagram. “It’s a tough piece of news to be sure, but we are SO thankful for the #WalkerFamily that has been built, both on set and off,” he wrote. “I will forever smile on the years I got to spend with the cast and crew and studio and network and fandom that made this all possible. Til we ride again.” While “Walker was the network’s most-watched series, The CW has been cutting its investment in original scripted programming.

European studio Anton Capital Entertainment (“His Dark Materials”) has secured over €100 million in new financing, led by funds and accounts managed by BlackRock. “We have an amazing development and production team in place focused on creating high quality, premium entertainment,” said Anton founder and CEO Sébastien Raybaud. “This exciting investment from BlackRock allows us to greenlight more ambitious projects, and expand these partnerships with exceptional film and TV producers.” The company will focus on projects from action and thrillers to horror and sci-fi.

Lion Forge Entertainment is developing Rebel Girls’ first fiction series, The Secret Society of Rebel Girls, into a live action TV show for tweens. Set in the world of the Ada Lovelace School, the series follows classmates as they find themselves through advice from the past.

Development of the sequel to Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie” (2009-15) has moved from Showtime to Amazon MGM Studios, reports Variety. The series from Lionsgate Television, starring and executive produced by the OG’s star, Edie Falco, “will find [Jackie] facing new dilemmas in trying to be good in a world where being bad is often not only easier, but a lot more fun.”

Hulu has picked up “Virgin Island” from ITV America (“Love Island USA”) and Plimsoll Productions (“A Real Bug’s Life”). On the dating show, singles look for love on a tropical island.

Disney+ has ordered a Marvel Vision series, with Paul Bettany reprising the role he played in “WandaVision” and three Marvel films. Terry Matalas (“Star Trek: Picard”) has been enlisted as showrunner.

UCP is going down Mockingbird Lane for a “darker reimagining of the 1964 classic sitcom ‘The Munsters’.” “1313” is being developed by James Wan, Lindsay Anderson Beer, and Ingrid Bisu for UCP. Atomic Monster and LAB BREW are the production companies.

“Car Wash,” the 1976 film starring Richard Pryor, is getting the TV treatment at NBC. A comedy based on the series, from Malcolm D. Lee (“The Best Man”) and Opey Olagbaju (“Bob Hearts Abishola”) is in development at Universal Television.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Chopper Cops,” a docuseries that takes viewers into the cockpit of an elite Florida police team of helicopter pilots, launches Tuesday, June 18 on Paramount+. In 10 half-hour episodes, the series showcases the Marion County, Florida Sheriff’s Department’s secret weapon: state-of-the-art helicopters manned by elite police pilots.

Netflix’s “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” returns with a two-episode (!) fifth season on Wednesday, June 12. Host David Letterman’s guests will include Miley Cyrus and Charles Barkley.

Turkish drama “Vidas Rotas” (Broken Lives) premieres on Kanal D Drama on Monday, June 3. “The magic of the ‘Dizi,’ the Turkish dramas and their impactful stories continues to transcend borders and cultures,” said Francheska León de la Barra, VP Marketing and Communications for Thema America.

MGM+ drama ‘Emperor of Ocean Park” makes its debut Sunday, July 14. Added to the cast are Keith Powers (“The Perfect Find”), Kelli Simpkins (“American Rust”), Keith Kupferer (“The Dark Knight”), and Deanna Reed-Foster (“Chicago Fire”).

“Remembering the Catskills,” telling stories of the Borscht Belt in New York’s Catskill Mountains, premieres Sunday, May 26 at 6:30p on JLTV. Ron MacCloskey, who worked at the Brown’s Hotel in the 1970s, hosts and produces.

Nickelodeon is kicking off the 25th anniversary celebration of “SpongeBob SquarePants” with SpongeBob himself (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) hosting the “Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2024,” live from Bikini Bottom on Saturday, July 13, at 8p. The immersive broadcast marks the first time animated characters will host a full-length awards show.

You had to be there: MSNBC special “Prosecuting Donald Trump: Witness to History” premieres Sunday, June 2 at 9p. “The country has experienced for the first time in its history a criminal trial of a president of the United States. Except, the country did not actually get to witness it: only a very few members of the public including the press did as no cameras or audio were permitted by court rules,” said MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissmann. “It’s one thing to read the trial transcript of what happened; quite another to be in the courtroom, to assess credibility, hear the tone and cadence and even volatility of the witnesses and lawyers.”

The HISTORY Channel is commemorating the 80th anniversary of WWII’s D-Day landings with new docuseries, “D-Day: The Unheard Tapes.” The two-parter, premiering Thursday, June 6 at 8p, relives the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Normandy through the voices and words of those who were there.

Following last year’s “Black Girl Missing” Lifetime movie, Naturi Naughton (“Queens”) and Tanyell Quian (“Queen Sugar”) will star in “Abducted at an HBCU: A Black Girl Missing Movie,” premiering Saturday July 20 on the network.

“What If…? — An Immersive Story,” the first-ever interactive Disney+ Original story, from Marvel Studios and ILM Immersive, will be released on Thursday, May 30, on Apple Vision Pro as a free app for a limited time. The mixed reality experience sees fans step into the leading role of an hour-long, narrative-driven journey where they will meet variants from across the Multiverse.

Documentary “Power of the Dream” premieres Tuesday, June 18 on Prime Video. The film tells the story of a group of professional women’s basketball players who took on a WNBA team owner and rallied behind now-Senator Raphael Warnock, changing the landscape of their sport and the course of US politics.

Reddit has named Kantar as its preferred brand-lift measurement partner. The move allows Kantar to utilize Reddit’s randomized control trial tools for ad-exposure measurement, while providing advertisers Kantar’s suite of tools. “Balancing effective measurement readiness with privacy-centric solutions has never been more important for our clients than right now,” said Reddit’s Global Girector of Marketing Sciences Ryan Brendle. “It’s why working with Kantar makes sense for us.”

The second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs is the most-watched Round 2 ever on cable, delivering an average audience of 1.546 million viewers, up 12% from 2023. Through the first two rounds the audience is up 9% year-over-year on ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, TNT, TBS and truTV.

Driven by the season four finale of reality competition “La Casa de los Famosos,” Telemundo ranked as the most-watched broadcast network in 8-11p primetime on May 20 among viewers A18-49, regardless of language, with 485,000. The show drew 1.76 million total viewers.

On Monday, FOX News’ “Gutfeld!” delivered its highest-rated telecast in program history, averaging 2.9 million viewers and 342,000 in A25-54. The show, which featured comedian Bill Maher’s first appearance on the network, was also the most-watched late night television program in viewers and among A25-54

The premiere of the second half of season six of Paramount+ drama “The Chi” drew nearly 2 million viewers in Live+7 cross-platform numbers. That’s up 4% from viewership for the kick-off of first half of the season.
