   IN THE NEWS

The Coalition for Innovative Media Measurement is launching an initiative to explore how the economics of operating a currency-grade national TV measurement solution are evolving. The study will analyze the costs, revenues and competitive dynamics of the multi-currency marketplace, drawing insights from end-users and industry participants including media buyers, TV networks, data providers and vendors. “The industry is keen to support the growth and development of a multi-currency marketplace backed by solutions from independent, commercially funded companies – but much uncertainty remains about the true economics required to invest, build, and maintain in a high-quality solution,” said Jon Watts, Managing Director of CIMM. “At the same time, however, new methodologies, collaborative approaches, and lower-cost substitutions are becoming available – creating potential opportunities for interventions that would materially improve the economics of the measurement marketplace as a whole.”

Paramount+ with Showtime’s “Dexter: Original Sin” has been renewed for season two, with showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips onboard for another round. The prequel series debuted in December with 2.1 million global viewers in its first three days.

MSNBC has tagged two more hosts for its upcoming new show, “The Weekend: Primetime,” set to debut in May. Antonia Hylton and Elise Jordan, both familiar faces on NBC News and MSNBC, will join Ayman Mohyeldin and Catherine Rampell. MSNBC is also expanding the morning edition of “The Weekend” to three hours, starting at 7a, with Jonathan Capehart, Eugene Daniels and Jackie Alemany as hosts. Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele and Alicia Menendez have been handed the 7p weekday slot.

Steve Kornacki is leaving MSNBC as the news net prepares to be spun off from Comcast. Instead, he’ll serve as contributor and Chief Data Analyst at NBC News and NBC Sports.

Streaming’s on the rise, but linear TV remains a preferred and trusted source for a wide range of content. So says “The New Life of the Living Room,” a study from RTL AdAlliance that looks at viewing habits across Europe and the US. The report found that 59% of CTV users start with broadcaster-produced content when they switch on their TV. While US viewers lean more towards digital content (49% watch SVOD daily), European audiences tend to favor linear TV. Spanish viewers are the most loyal to linear TV with 61% watching daily.

Revry, the LGBTQ+ streaming network, and Black-owned multimedia company REVOLT, are collaborating to grow the audiences available to brands and platforms under Revry’s PrismRiot Ad Exchange. “Joining forces with REVOLT is a game-changer in audience targeting,” said Alia J. Daniels, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Revry. “By integrating REVOLT’s influential audience into PrismRiot, we are creating a one-stop-shop for brands to reach diverse communities with more precision and intent.”

The first four episodes are in pre-production with shooting scheduled to start in the UK in January 2026. Oli Higginson (“Bridgerton”) has been cast as Sherlock Holmes.

UK’s TV Studios has acquired a majority stake in independent producer Moonage Pictures (“The Gentlemen,” “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”). As part of the acquisition, BBC Studios has exited its stake in Moonage and will continue to distribute returning series.

ITV Studios is partnering with home products manufacturer Core Home to launch a “Love Island”-themed collection in the US and Canada. So what might a fan of the steamy reality show want? Hydration products, glassware, barware, and travel accessories inspired by the show, it turns out, in a deal brokered by Richard Oren, President of licensing consultancy Brand Equity Solutions.

The New York Yankees and YES Network struck an eleventh-hour deal for a new carriage agreement that averted a blackout in Xfinity households in parts of New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had warned on X that the commission “does have authority to step in and address claims of discriminatory conduct.” In a statement, YES Network head Randy Levine thanked Carr and President Trump for helping resolve the dispute.

The National Football League is likely to opt out of its domestic media rights contracts four years early, sources have told Front Office Sports. The NFL’s current deals with Amazon, CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC run through the 2033 season, but the league has opt-out provisions with Amazon, Fox and NBC after the 2029 season, and with ESPN in 2030. Asked about an early exit, NFL EVP and Chief Media and Business Officer Brian Rolapp told Front Office Sports, “How we think about the opt-outs, we haven’t made any decisions, but they are there because in a media environment that is changing rapidly, we want to make sure we have the flexibility to make any, all, or no changes at all.

TruTV and Max have acquired “Dreambreaker: A Pickleball Story,” a humorous look at the paddle sport that has swept the nation. The documentary is set to premiere Friday, April 11 on truTV.

The United Football League, the professional spring football league, and DAZN have signed a new global partnership that will see DAZN broadcast every game of the UFL’s 2025 season. The UFL began play in 2024 following the merger of the United States Football League (USFL) and the XFL.

Betsy Riley is decamping from Prime Video to return to NBC Olympics as SVP & Coordinating Producer, NBC Olympics, overseeing production of the Olympic Primetime Show, beginning with Milan Cortina 2026. Riley rejoins NBC Olympics after serving as Senior Coordinating Producer for Prime Video.

The Minnesota Twins have a new free, over-the-air TV home. The MLB team struck a multi-year partnership deal with Gray Media to broadcast 10 Tuesday night regular season games per season. All 10 simulcasts will air live in the Twin Cities on the main KMSP channel, beginning with an exclusive 40-minute Fox 9 pregame show. Select Gray Media stations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa, will carry each of the 10 Tuesday games, enabling local over-the-air coverage of Twins baseball across Twins Territory for the first time since 1988.
