Fubo exceeded guidance across key financial and operating metrics in North America during 4Q23, ending the quarter with 1.618 million paid subscribers, up 12% year-over-year, and $402 million in total revenue, up 29%. Ad revenue in the quarter closed at $38.6 million, up 15%. But the streamer’s strong numbers were not the buzziest part of its earnings call. Asked how far Fubo will go in its legal fight with Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery over their sports joint venture, Fubo CEO David Gandler said, “This is a duel to the death….We’re fighting for consumers. We’re fighting for our customers. We’re fighting for the tens of billions of dollars that are wasted annually on consumers paying for the same content multiple times. This is a very important process. We are sticking to our principles, to our guns. We are continuing to walk and chew gum at the same time, as you see in our numbers.”

EchoStar/Dish warned in an SEC filing that there is “substantial doubt” about the company’s “ability to continue as a going concern.” The merger of EchoStar and Dish Network closed at the start of the year, and the combined company has significant debt maturing in 2024. During an earnings call, EchoStar CEO Hamid Akhavan said, “We plan on meeting our immediate obligations in March and then we have, obviously, the window to November to address the next maturity. We obviously have access to a number of ways to do that.” MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett wasn’t optimistic about the company’s future based on Dish’s diminishing pay-TV and mobile subscriber customer base – in 4Q23, EchoStar lost 314,000 pay TV subscribers. Dish “is losing subscribers in every business. Revenues are declining in all segments. Each quarter comes with new defections of senior management,” Moffett wrote in a research note last week. “It is simply not realistic to expect a turnaround.” |

Lifetime has greenlit “The Bad Guardian” (w/t), a film that sheds a light on the court-appointed guardianship system, starring Melissa Joan Hart and La La Anthony. Premiering later this year, the project is inspired by stories of individuals who have been put in the care of a guardian by the courts.
Fox ordered a second season of “Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars,” which last summer averaged 3.3 million multiplatform viewers. Production is moving from California to the UK. Said Fox Unscripted Programming President Allison Wallach, “Simply put, Gordon Ramsay has the golden touch in connecting with viewers and contestants across his impressive slate of shows.”
Apple TV+ series “Foundation” has a new director for season three. Tim Southam (“One Piece”) will take over directing chores from David S. Goyer, who will continue to write and executive produce. The move follows a delay prompted by budget and production issues; production is scheduled to re-start March 6 in the Czech Republic.

BBC Studios is taking full ownership of BritBox International, acquiring ITV’s 50% share. “This is an important acquisition for us,” said Tom Fussell, CEO of BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial content studio and media and streaming business. “We are taking full ownership of a successful, growing service we know well and that fits with our stated ambition to double the size of our business. Britbox International has British content at its heart and it generates and satisfies demand for British shows outside the UK.” As part of the transaction, BBC Studios has extended its licensing agreements with ITV.
Apple TV+ is offering a “Great Movies” collection of 51 films for a limited time. Titles include the likes of “Titanic,” “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” “Kill Bill” and “Men in Black.”
Netflix has canceled “The Brothers Sun,” from Brad Falchuk (“American Horror Story”), who has a deal with Netflix, and Byron Wu. The comedic drama starring Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) as the mother of a gangster played by Justin Chien, peaked at number two on Netflix’s Top 10 English-language series, with weekly views under two million for its final two weeks on the list.
All six seasons of HBO series “Sex and the City” land on Netflix on Monday, April 1. The drop is part of a licensing deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix that also includes “Ballers,” “Band of Brothers,” “Insecure,” “Six Feet Under,” “The Pacific” and “True Blood.”

The premiere of “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” set all-time records for both viewership and customer acquisition on AMC+. The episode delivered nearly 3 million premiere night viewers in Nielsen Live+3 ratings, the biggest premiere night audience for a new AMC series in six years, going back to 2018’s premiere of “The Terror.”
Lifetime documentary “Where is Wendy Williams?” delivered an average 1.2 million total viewers in Live+3 across two nights, and boosted Lifetime to rank as the Top Cable Net in prime among W25-64 and W25-54. Additionally, Wendy Williams content on Lifetime over three nights including new doc, “Wendy Williams: The Movie” and the 2021 doc “Wendy Williams: What a Mess!” reached over 7.7 million Total Viewers. “Where is Wendy Williams?” accounted for 6.2 million total viewers across linear and digital to date.
The second episode of Food Network’s “Tournament of Champions” grew +11% from the season opener, posting a 0.89 P25-54 Live+3 rating, as well as a 0.97 among W25-54, driving Food Network to rank as the #2 non-news/sports cable network among P25-54 for the night.
