NABiQ – Harnessing the Power of Teamwork

The media and entertainment ecosystem is heading to Las Vegas April 24-27 for the NAB Show – after two years, it’s back, and better than before with elevated experiences, cool tech, and tons of insights and learnings across a reimagined show floor. One of the new additions in the innovation experiential zones will be NABiQ, a series of collaborative ideation workshops that will harness the power of teamwork to innovate around real-world challenges facing the content community. How will it work?

NABiQ collaborative innovation sessions

Running across three innovation spaces – Create, Connect and Capitalize – this 90-minute networking activity taking place twice a day is built around the hackathon concept. Teams of up to six people will tackle key questions across the content workflow.

Topics include leveraging new technology in video production, preparing for the future of delivery and utilizing audience insights. The one-hour facilitated ideation sprint followed by informal networking will give session participants an opportunity to collaborate and interact with with their peers.

Participants who register for an NABiQ session in advance will receive specific insights and a curated itinerary for the NAB Show highlighting key areas to explore that are relevant to the challenges.

IDEATE. With all the knowledge and inspiration gained from the show floor and diverse personal experience, participants will have ten minutes together to share their best ideas with their new team-mates, brainstorming and building on each others’ insights to imagine an ultimate solution.

INNOVATE. Teams will then have to prioritize the ideas to define the best solution together. How will it work, Who is the key user, and What is the impact? Each team will be provided with a templated sprint document which will capture the key question they are addressing and their proposed solution.

PROTOTYPE. Taking it further, teams will illustrate a low-fi visual representation of the idea to demonstrate how it works, via a metaphor, literal drawing, screen mockup or a process flow – keep it simple!

PITCH. Then it’s time to show and tell. Teams will be asked to present their ideas during a 1-minute pitch, followed by an open networking session among participants to discuss the ideas with new connections and imagine further possibilities.

WIN. The ideas will be reviewed and scored by the NABiQ judges who will select one winner per category. Winning solutions will be shared via NAB Amplify.

What are the NABiQ Challenges?

With 12 challenges running twice a day throughout NAB Show, there should be a chance for all visitors to participate in an NABiQ session. The NABiQ challenges are:

CREATE: How can we leverage new tech and define the core purpose of video?

  • Build the perfect production crew of the future. How might we staff a production in the next 5 years? Could you predict what skills would be needed, what would be their titles and roles, and how they would work together?
  • Conceptualize a metaverse content pitch to secure funding. If you had unlimited funds, what content would you create for the metaverse?
  • Map out the ultimate production workflow for a hybrid world. Imagine a decentralized workflow – how might we leverage the best of in-person and virtual production to minimize costs but maximize quality?

CONNECT: How can we prepare for what is next in distribution and delivery?

  • Develop the toolkit of the future for a content delivery engineer. How might we equip engineers with the tools they need to deliver consistently great content in these hybrid times?
  • Create the distribution and delivery team manifesto for the next 5 years. How might we attract new talent and bridge knowledge gaps to generate a competitive advantage? What values, skills and purpose would you prioritize for the next 5 years?
  • Design the streaming platform of the future. What is your big bet for future streaming? How might we use immersive tech or emerging platforms to provide new opportunities to stream content to new audiences?

CAPITALIZE: How can we perceive our viewers’ needs to improve reach and ROI?

  • Invent a new advertising offer built on the knowledge of your audience to sell to advertisers. Going beyond the 30-second ad, how might we leverage audience insights to deliver value to advertisers?
  • Construct the perfect commercial innovation hub for your organization. How might we make organizations agile enough to respond to future opportunities?
  • Produce the ultimate local audience checklist to audit the value contained in local data. What would be included in a checklist to identify the most valuable local audience knowledge?

Who should register?

NABiQ offers an opportunity to become an idea originator and develop a project in a team of industry professionals. It’s perfect for those with existing ideas, as well as curious minds who are keen to make a difference to the future of media and entertainment and learn from a rapid-innovation process.
