NATPE ROUNDUP

Kevin Conroy, President, Univision Interactive and Enterprise Development, called the market “an engaging environment. I am encouraged by the degree to which people are focusing on digital as a piece of the puzzle.” The conversation should not be about one platform versus another, said Conroy, but “giving people the most content possible, and letting them choose how to watch.”For Red Touch Media‘s Wayne Scholes, NATPE is about making connections and having fun. “We don’t take ourselves too seriously,” said the CEO, whose booth offered candy and charging stations. “I think these markets go so much better when you’re lighthearted and relaxed.”… Asked to name his biggest competitor, Simulmedia SVP business development Pravin Chandiramani said, “The status quo – demographic and gender-based metrics.” His company’s new agreement with Fourth Wall, he told Cynopsis, “will enable us to match set top box data to purchase data. We’re moving past demos to purchase-driven audience targeting.” As for NATPE, Chandiramani said he sees “buzz in the markets. It’s very heartening to see this concerted effort in the community.”

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

IAC is combining CollegeHumor Media and Electus digital and studio properties into newly formed Electus Digital. The company will be comprised of CollegeHumor.com, Dorkly.com, WatchLoud.com, YouTube channels WatchLoud, Nuevon and Hungry, and production companies Big Breakfast and dumbdumb. Electus and Big Breakfast will develop feature-length films, TV programming and new content for Electus Digital. Variety reports that Big Breakfast’s first deal is with TBS to bring the CollegeHumor series Jake and Amir to cable TV.

CONTENT MEDIA

International TV programming streaming platform DramaFever added 12 new popular children’s TV titles from South Korea to kick off its new vertical DramaFever Kids. The section will stream content for children between the ages of 2-10 and include subtitles in multiple languages. The content is available to view on desktops, mobile apps and Roku devices.

Screen-Bridge launched yesterday, with the aim of producing unique social content to close the gap between TV production companies and their online audiences, by gathering unique content on-set without disturbing production. So far, Screen-Bridge has created content for TLC and The Best Thing I ever Made on Food Network. CEO Melanie Witkower told Cynopsis, “It’s our job to tell the story in new ways on every medium.”

Ad network LiveRail appointed Peter Naylor to the company’s Board of Directors. Most recently, Naylor was the Executive Vice President of Digital Media Sales at NBCUniversal.

Zedo, ad platform partner for publishers and advertisers, announced that Mark Campe has joined the company as Vice President of West Coast Ad Sales for Zedo’s Zinc division. Campe was formerly an executive at Zoom Media and Univision Communications.

DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY

Chipotle is heating up its digital branding after the success of last fall’s animated short promo for its free iOS game with original web series Farmed and Dangerous. The four-part live-action parody series stars Ray Wise (RoboCop and Twin Peaks), and revolves around sustainable agriculture and the humane treatment of animals. Last year’s Scarecrow video had similar themes and garnered more than 11 million views. The series will debut on Hulu as of Feb. 17; the trailer can be viewed at www.cynopsis.com.
