The telecast drew a 2.4 overnight score, according to Nielsen, up 50% over the comparable game a year ago. The second part of Wednesday’s ESPN NBA doubleheader between the rockets and Bulls, generated a 1.7 overnight, rising 55% over last year’s comparable game.
The NFL on FOX’s national telecast on Sunday (anchored by Packers/Cowboys) ranked as the most-watched show in all of TV last week 27.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen. The league reports that the top market for the week spanning Dec. 9-15 was New Orleans, which scored a 46.7/64. Rounding out the top five were Kansas City, Milwaukee, Denver and Seattle.

As expected, the NFL will push back following the news that the FCC was moving forward with plans to end broadcast blackouts in sports. “We will strongly oppose any change in the rule,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Politico.com. “We are on pace for a historic low number of blackouts since the policy was implemented 40 years ago. While affecting very few games the past decade, the blackout rule is very important in supporting NFL stadiums and the ability of NFL clubs to sell tickets and keeping our games attractive as television programming with large crowds.”
Florida and Michigan will open the 2017 college football season in the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas on Saturday Sept. 2. The annual matchup will take place at AT&T Stadium.
