From Michael Karnow, the creator of Syfy’s Alphas, the documentary-style show revolves around a robot and his best friend (played by Summer Glau) as he tries to make it as a Hollywood actor. MSNBC launched video platform Shift by MSNBC, which will provide additional original news coverage of events and stories tailored to the audience watching the network outside of the TV set. Shift’s slate of originals includes shows on culture, tech, sports and economics, such as: The Briefing, Road Map, Krystal Clear, So Popular!, Left Field, Three Cents and Code Forward. All shows will run for an hour; a new ep will premiere weekly.
Netflix continues to expand its original comedy specials with a new entry from comedian Iliza Shlesinger called Freezing Hot. The one-hour show will premiere on Jan. 23. Her first special, War Paint, is currently available on Netflix.
YouTube celeb Flula Borg (450,000 subscribers and 56 million views) signed with United Talent Agency (UTA). The German DJ and online talent recently appeared in Vevo and Screen Junkies vids, and will star in the Pitch Perfect sequel (featuring Anna Kendrick). Next year, he will also take on a role with WWE Studio’s Killy Hasselhoff. UTA also reps Shane Dawson and Joey Graceffa.
Movie and TV streaming service Popcornflix went live on Xbox One consoles today, with a new feature that allows viewers to choose kid-friendly portal Popcornflix Kids. Popcornflix is ad-supported and available on Xbox360, Roku, Google TV, iOS and others platforms.
HBO Go launched on the Amazon Fire TV set-top-box yesterday. In addition to the HBO content on Amazon Prime’s service, device owners can now access all episodes of Game of Thrones and current programming, as well as past series such as The Sopranos and The Wire. HBO Go will be available on the Fire TV Stick in spring 2015.

Teads Inc. announced new partnerships with The Washington Post, Forbes, Reuters, Slate, The Street and SheKnows to commemorate its one-year anniversary. Teads is known for its inRead video solution, which places video ads between paragraphs in an article.

Conan O’Brien’s YouTube channel surpassed one billion total views yesterday. To celebrate, the channel released a five-minute Season 4 Supercut, spotlighting the top moments from Team CoCo’s show this year. O’Brien’s channel has more than 2.2 million subscribers, and has been nominated for the past three consecutive years for the Emmy honoring Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Media (and they won in 2012 for its Sync app).
