Lurker: In internet culture, a lurker is an individual who reads discussions on a message board, social network, or newsgroup, but rarely or never participates in a the discussion.
For the first time, Hulu now features 4K “Ultra HD” versions of a select number of movies and TV series. Content available in 4K includes Hulu originals like the sci-fi miniseries 11.22.63 and the drama series The Path. Also available in 4K are 20 James Bond films, including classics like Dr. No and Goldfinger and more recent movies like Spectre and Die Another Day. The 4K content is available to Hulu subs with Microsoft’s Xbox One S console or Sony’s PlayStation 4 Pro console. Hulu is later to the 4K party than rivals Amazon and Netflix, both of which have offered select 4K programming for years. Amazon and Netflix also offer a select numbers of titles in HDR (high dynamic range), a format that provides a wider and richer array of colors.

Amazon is set to enter the header bidding fray, according to a report from Advertising Age. Header bidding has exploded in popularity in 2016; it’s a form of programmatic buying that lets publishers choose which tech partners they want to work with, enabling a huge group of marketers to bit on website inventory at once. Amazon’s cloud-based header bidding solution will be announced this week, according to Ad Age’s sources. Amazon didn’t officially comment on the story.
FilmStruck, the recently launched movie-streaming service from Turner, has launched for Apple TV. The service was already available on Amazon Fire TV, on Android and iOS devices, and on the web. Turner now says that FilmStruck will get Roku and Google Chromecast apps early in 2017. Apps for Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 are slated to follow later in the year.

Netflix has gained the exclusive streaming rights to One In a Billion, a documentary about basketball player Santam Singh Bhamara. The film follows Bhamara’s efforts to become the first-ever India-born player to be drafted by an NBA franchise. (Spoiler: The Dallas Mavericks drafted him last year.) The documentary will premiere tomorrow, December 6.
Looks like “News of the Week’s” journos will have to take their revolt somewhere else. Trade pubs including Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and Variety report that Amazon has opted not to pick up Good Girls Revolt, its drama about female journalists struggling to gain recognition in the ‘60s and ‘70s, for a second season. But Good Girls Revolt isn’t necessarily going out of print just yet: Sony, which produces the series, reportedly intends to shop the show to other outlets.
Programmatic buying and digital advertising are now inseparable. But when it comes to mobile in particular, many digital media pros are still a ways away from mastery. Twitter has acquired Yes Inc., the Silicon Valley startup behind social apps such as WYD and Frenzy. As part of the acquisition, Yes CEO Keith Coleman has been named as Twitter’s new VP of Product. Coleman founded Yes in 2014. Before that, he served as Google’s Director of Product Management from 2004 to 2014. At Google, Coleman helped developed products such as Google Chat and Gmail.
Magic Leap’s former CMO is joining a new startup led by famed software engineer Andy Rubin. Wallace left the secretive augmented reality company last month; not much is about the new company he’s joining. Rubin is best known as the primary creator behind Android. He also currently runs the hardware incubator Playground. In addition to Magic Leap, Wallace has held positions at Samsung, BlackBerry and Google. His position at Rubin’s new startup was first announced on Twitter by Bloomberg’s Mark Bergen. Recode later confirmed the move with its own sources.
