Quantico will move from Sundays to Mondays when it returns from hiatus on January 23. "New night. More intense than ever," tweeted @QuanticoWriters on Monday. The ABC drama takes the place of Conviction, which has not been extended past its 13 episode order.

AT&T offered DirecTV Now details at a press conference on Monday. The streaming service, launching tomorrow, will offer initial subscribers 100+ channels for $35/month; after an introductory period the number of channels drops to over 60 channels in a "Live a Little" package. A "Just Right" group of 80+ channels will cost $50/month, "Go Big" will set subscribers back $60 for over 100 channels and $70/month will get consumers a "Gotta Have It" package with over 120 channels. HBO and Cinemax will each cost an extra $5/month. A Taylor Swift channel will be included in all services, and a Reese Witherspoon VOD channel is in the works. DirecTV will also allow AT&T Mobility to stream content on DTV Now or FreeVIEW without using their AT&T mobile data.

Broadcast TV’s reach of young viewers increased in October, according to Pivot Research Group. Fox‘s gain among A18-34 was 4 percent (to 62.6 percent), versus 3.9 percent for CBS (to 61.8 percent), 3.5 percent for NBC (61 percent) and 1.7 percent for ABC (58.3 percent). Fox News jumped 4.8 percent for a reach of 15.4 percent, and CNN gained 3.4 percent for a 19.7 percent reach. "The expanded reach for Fox News and CNN is unsurprising, given the election, but the expansion in reach among broadcast networks suggests some degree of success in airing programming that appeals to younger viewers," said Brian Wieser, Pivotal senior research analyst.

With an eye toward Millennials and user-generated news, CNN acquired the technology and talent behind social app Beme, from YouTube star Casey Neistat and Tumblr alum Matt Hackett"Casey has tapped into nearly six million really powerful viewers, most of which do not tune in to CNN," Andrew Morse, global head of CNN Digital, told the New York Times. "To build this audience authentically, we believe we need to build something new." The Beme app will shut down, but the company will stay intact; a new video-based platform is planned for summer 2017.

The FCC‘s offer of a portion of proceeds of its broadcast incentive auction to TV stations presents "a unique opportunity for communities," says Free Press. With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, the Free Press Action Fund is launching a campaign to educate the public about opportunities the auction presents, and develop proposals for how the money can be used to serve community information needs. Says the Free Press, "It’s a chance to rebuild and reinvent local newsrooms cross the country."

Responding to a report that the NFL is considering ending or eliminating Thursday Night Football, the league issued a statement saying, "We are fully committed to Thursday Night Football, and any reports to the contrary are unfounded." The Thursday night package, shared by CBS and NBC, ends after next season.

A federal judge ruled that Cablevision violated its carriage contract with GSN in 2011 by moving it to a less popular tier. "As a result of Cablevision’s discriminatory retiering conduct, GSN experienced a decline in the sought-after New York DMA of 60 percent in household viewership, as well as a decline of 80-90 percent decline in targeted female viewership," said the order. Cablevision, now owned by Altice USA, was ordered to pay a maximum fortfeiture of $400,000, and prohibited from discriminating against GSN in the terms of its video programming distribution.

A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM NCM

America’s Movie Network is on the Rise

The 2016 Box Office is up 4.5% and is now the fastest ever to reach $10 Billion.  With attendance also up 2.3%, NCM is consistently delivering high ratings alongside the world’s best first run content.  And with blockbusters like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Passengers, Sing and Assassin’s Creed still to come, 2016 will wrap-up as one of the best years in Hollywood.

There’s one network that delivers the world’s best content, Millennial reach, and the data to back it up:
NCMAmerica’s Movie Network.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Larry Wilmore, whose Nightly Show on Comedy Central ended its run in August, inked a multi-year deal with ABC Studios to develop his own series and supervise other creators. Wilmore had been exec producer/showrunner on ABC Studios’ black-ish when he was lured away by the late night offer. "We’re thrilled to welcome Larry Wilmore back to ABC Studios," said ABC Studios president Patrick Moran. "We worked closely with Larry while we were developing black-ish and are looking forward to whatís coming next from this incredibly talented writer/producer."

Political satirist Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, This Is Spinal Tap) is developing a comedy series about President-elect Donald Trump. Too Soon? will comment on events in Trump’s presidency. "I wanted to do this to start what I think is a future, if not the future, of topical sketch comedy," said Shearer, looking forward to "comedy gold for the next four years." Sneak peek is here.

Food Network is reimagining Iron Chef, which ran on the net from 2005-2014. A new version of the cooking competition, called Iron Chef Gauntlet, will be hosted by Iron Chef commentator Alton Brown and will begin production in early 2017 for a target launch in 2Q17. Triage Entertainment is producing in conjunction with Food Network, based on the format owned by Fuji Television Network.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

It won’t be hard to find the premiere of CBS reality series Hunted: the competition will launch right after the NFL’s AFC Championship Game on Sunday, January 22 at 10p-ish. Based on the UK format following ordinary people on the run, Hunted moves to Wednesdays on January 25 with a supersized two-hour episode, then airs Wednesdays at 8-9p.

A&E‘s Intervention returns tonight with episodes at 8p and 9p. The level of discussion around addiction and its effects on people has changed in the 11+ years since GRB Entertainment has been producing the show, notes GRB President/CEO Gary R. Benz – a change the show might have helped bring about. "By authentically documenting the real struggles of people whose lives have been upended, we are proud to have helped expose the nondiscriminatory nature of this disease, and what steps can be taken," Benz tells Cynopsis. "We continue to be humbled by the opportunity to produce a series that helps to inform and, in many cases, successfully rehabilitate our participants."

HBO‘s Big Little Lies premieres Sunday, February 19 at 9p. The limited series from David E. Kelley, based on the Liane Moriarty bestseller, stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley.

ADVERTISING & BRANDS

Pivotal‘s Brian Weiser‘s 2017 ad forecast was revised from a growth rate of 2.8 percent to 2.0 percent. "Following the election, we reached out to industry practitioners for their perspectives on how uncertainty might play out," Wieser said. "While some indicated that there shouldn’t be any changes because of the outcome of the election specifically – and that the health of the economy will drive advertising growth – others expressed a more cautious view." In 2016, the ad industry experienced an estimated 5 percent growth, the best since 2005.

Twelve brands are onboard for NBC‘s Celebrity Apprentice, launching January 2 with new boss Arnold Schwarzenegger: Tyra Beauty, Trident, Welch’s, King’s Hawaiian, Kawasaki USA, See’s Candies, Lorissa’s Kitchen, Universal Studios Hollywood, the L.A. Clippers, QVC, The Honest Company and Carnival Corporation. King’s Hawaiian, Universal Studios and QVC are holdovers from the Donald Trump era, while three brands are tied to Apprentice boardroom advisors: the Clippers (Steve Ballmer), Tyra Beauty (Tyra Banks) and Honest Company (Jessica Alba). "There is such excitement building around the new season of Celebrity Apprentice and to have these brands come on board with Arnold at the helm only adds to what we can do this time around," said executive producer Mark Burnett.

DISTRIBUTION

Azteca America signed an affiliation and sales agreement with full-power station WGEN Miami. Beginning on Thursday, December 1, WGEN will air Azteca programming on channel 8 in Miami, the country’s third largest Hispanic DMA.
