PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Courtney B. Vance (The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) and director Anthony Hemingway teamed with writer Dwayne Johnson-Cochran for Heist 88 at FX. Vance will star in the project, which is based on the true story of convicted swindler Armand Moore.
Broadchurch producer Kudos, the Endemol Shine Group owned drama company, is developing Through the Fire. Series is based on the book by Dr. Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, one of the UK’s most senior female firefighters.
Reel One Entertainment and The Cartel struck a multi-year deal to expand their investment in movies for the U.S. and international market. The pair will co-develop 40 new movies over a three-year period for clients, including cable networks Lifetime and Hallmark Channel, as well as for theatrical release.
Entertainment One and The Gotham Group are adapting Ruth Ware’s bestselling novel, The Lying Game, for television. The psychological mystery begins after a woman walking her dog in an idyllic coastal village finds something sinister.
Joe Ahearne, Doctor Who director and Da Vinci’s Demons writer, is developing a UFO drama with Eleventh Hours Film. Rendlesham is inspired by a “real-life” UFO incident that took place at a U.S. air base close to the village of Rendlesham, Suffolk, in 1980.
Starz is moving forward with drama P-Town from Gotham writer/producer Rebecca Cutter, Power EP Gary Lennon and Jerry Bruckheimer TV. The project has a lesbian lead and covers the opioid epidemic.
Keshet International and Sr. Mono are developing Spanish-language series Alone (wt) with film and TV writer Curror Rovo attached. Crime thriller focused on a prestigious lawyer who takes on the impossible case of a woman charged with murdering her lover, his wife and their eight-year-old child, and succeeds in getting her acquitted.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
The nation’s opioid crisis will be tackled in the new season of A&E’s Intervention and for the first time, the season will follow interconnected stories of addicts and their families. Docu-series returns with a two-hour premiere on Tuesday, January 2 at 9p.
CNN is launching a primetime bi-monthly program anchored by Van Jones. The hour-long The Van Jones Show is set to debut in January and focus on the future of both political parties.
COMING UP
Singer-songwriter Josh Groban headlines the 19th annual A Home for the Holidays, airing Tuesday, December 19 at 8p on CBS. The special features stories of adoption from foster care. Kelly Clarkson, Kacey Musgraves and Kane Brown are also set to perform.
Harry Connick Jr., Auli’I Cravalho (Rise), Seal, and Train were added to the lineup of performers at Christmas in Rockefeller Center, airing live Wednesday, November 29 at 8p on NBC. They join Brett Eldredge, Jennifer Nettles, Leslie Odom Jr., Pentatonix, Gwen Stefani and The Tenors in the festive celebration.
Fusion debuts The Naked Truth: Trick Shots tonight at 8p. The documentary features investigative journalist Mariana van Zeller as she explores the network of coaches and con men who exploit kids from all over the world for profit.
UPTV honors the late Della Reese with a “Best of Tess” Touched by an Angel marathon tonight from 7a to 4p. Christmas Angel, starring Reese, Teri Polo and Tamara Mowry-Houseley, follows at 9p.
Reelz debuts Charles Manson: The Final Words on Sunday, December 3 at 9p. The two-hour documentary, narrated by Rob Zombie, focuses on the Manson family murders told from Manson’s perspective.
HDNET Movies premieres 2015 Dan Rather biopic Truth on Sunday, December 3 at 6:50p, with the newsman on hand to present the film.
ADVERTISING
Anti-tobacco ads, warning smokers about the clear and present dangers of lighting up, are set to begin airing in television markets across the country. They’ll be paid for by cigarette manufacturers and must air for a year. The move follows a nine-month civil racketeering trial in the U.S. District Court and is part of a permanent injunction dating back to 2006.

Lennie James is exiting AMC’s The Walking Dead after Season 8 to join prequel Fear The Walking Dead… John Stamos landed a recurring role opposite Penn Badgley and Elizabeth Lail in Lifetime’s straight-to-series psychological thriller You… Wyatt Nash (Dear White People) will recur on Season 2 of Netflix wrestling comedy GLOW… Jocelyn Towne and Hayden Szeto booked recurring roles in upcoming AMC comedic drama Lodge 49.
DIGITAL DOINGS
Hulu picked up Below The Surface and Midnight Sun from international distributor Studiocanal.
Netflix nabbed Indian feature Love Per Square Foot. It’s the first time a mainstream production from India will be exclusively available to the streamer’s members in 190 countries simultaneously.
Amazon Original Series, The Last Post, debuts exclusively in the U.S. on Prime Video on Friday, December 22.
Pay-TV service providers in the U.S. and Canada, including Comcast Xfinity, AT&T U-Verse and DirecTV, are again releasing the Santa Tracker, an interactive experience from zonetv allowing children and families awaiting Santa’s arrival to track his path across the globe on Christmas Eve.

NBCUniversal is officially taking control of DreamWorks Channel in Southeast Asia in 2018. Variety reports that the channel has been run by HBO Asia since its launch.
Disney Germany inked a new content distribution deal with German SVOD Pantaflix that will make the studio’s films available to streaming customers in Germany and Austria.
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts doled out its BAFTA Children’s Awards on Sunday night in London. Among the winners: online education channel TrueTube nabbed Channel of the Year.
