Turner Sports scored a social media spike with the debut of the NBA season, revealing that its social accounts for NBA Digital and NBA on TNT reached 46 million fans and followers across NBA TV, NBA.com and NBA on TNT Facebook and Twitter pages. Thursday’s doubleheader in Cleveland alone touched more than 33 million fans and followers. Best performing posts included LeBron James’ entrance into the Quicken Loans Arena, which reached over 4 million people during Game 1. Through Thursday, Turner Sports’ NBA managed social properties now hit more than 11.1 million fans and followers combined across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, marking a 138% rise over the same time period last year.

FOX Deportes saw its Tuesday coverage of the Real Madrid/Liverpool UEFA Champions League group stage match deliver the channel’s highest-rated match of the 2014-15 season, according to Nielsen. The contest ranked as the top Spanish-language sports program for the day with 344,000 total viewers, and 246,000 P18-49.
NBCSN is turning to Tom Brokaw for its latest special, Opening Day, which will spotlight the launch of South Dakota’s famed pheasant hunting season. The program will debut on Wednesday, November 19 at 11p on NBCSN and feature Brokaw returning to his home state of South Dakota to take viewers through the hunting fields and introduce them to the people that highlight every third Saturday in October. Brokaw has been attending Opening Day for more than 25 years.
On other documentary news, HBO Sports slated a special focusing on world champion boxer Johnny Tapia. The program, TAPIA, debuts on Dec. 16 at 11p and uses first-person narration and archival footage to explore the achievements, personal demons and ultimate redemption of the popular fighter, who died in 2012 at age 45. The film is executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and sports promoter, producer and entertainment executive Lou DiBella.
NBC Sports Group lined up more than 15 hours of coverage of the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix this week spanning NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, and NBC Sports Live Extra. Coverage revs up on Sunday at 10:30a on CNBC while NBC carries an encore presentation of the race at 1p on Sunday. Lead F1 announcer Leigh Diffey will call the Brazilian Grand Prix, and will be joined by veteran analyst and former racecar driver David Hobbs, and analyst and former race mechanic for the Benetton F1 team Steve Matchett.

ESPN revealed that on Jan. 16 at 7p, Southeastern Conference gymnastics will debut live on SEC Network with Florida facing conference opponent Auburn. In total, 21 SEC meets will be carried on either SEC Network, ESPN2 or ESPNU this season. “Taking on 21 regular season meets and airing ten of them live is a tremendous undertaking, as SEC gymnastics has not traditionally been covered live,” said coordinating producer Meg Aronowitz. “Our technology team is working to develop a scoring interface system that will allow us to update scores live to the viewer in a sport where scoring is not instantaneous and can be challenged. Our goal is to showcase the athleticism of the gymnasts and present the meets to the viewer at home as if they were watching live from the stands. The SEC Network platform gives us the opportunity to do just that.”
Horseracing television network TVG hits Del Mar’s inaugural “Bing Crosby Season” fall race meet tomorrow with coverage throughout the 15-day meet, which concludes Nov. 30. “There’s great anticipation for the upcoming first-ever Del Mar fall meet, and our aim is to deliver all the color and excitement that the meet will furnish from the first call to the post on Friday to the final finish on the Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend,” said Bhavesh Patel, TVG’s Senior Vice President for Television Operations and Marketing. “Making that possible is the close partnership TVG and Del Mar have developed, and continue to nurture, over the years.”

The NBA lined up the next installment of the league’s season long marketing campaign Everybody Up, which will feature youth-focused apparel ad spot for NBA Store/NBAStore.com, featuring Dwight Howard, Jeremy Lin, Damian Lillard, Andrew Wiggins and Mike Conley. The spot will debut today during the Spurs/Rockets game at 8p on TNT.
The upcoming Orlando City Soccer Club unveiled the team’s 2015 MLS kit and new advertising campaign which will run throughout the winter until the club’s league debut. The shirts are purple along with three white Adidas stripes with the logo of Orlando Health located on the front of the new home uniform.
Google revealed that that two new Android TV apps are set to launch including a new NBA Game Time app and a new MLB.TV app, according to reports. Both apps are now available on Google Play.
