Sony Pictures Animation and animator Fred Seibert (The Powerpuff Girls) will launch Go! Cartoons, a new digital platform focused on animated shorts. In the deal, Sony will fund 12 animated shorts, each five minutes long, which debut every month on the Cartoon Hangover YouTube channel as part of Seibert’s Channel Frederator Network (1.3 million subs). Additionally, one of the shorts will become a series on the YT channel.

StyleHaul CEO Stephanie Horbaczewski confirmed RTL Group has acquired the MCN for $107 million. StyleHaul received multiple offers dating back to when Disney acquired Maker Studios in April, Horaczewski told The Hollywood Reporter. “The acquisition is a smart move for an international company like RTL Group, not just because StyleHaul is one of the largest and fastest-growing vertically-focused MCNS, but what makes this acquisition stand out is that StyleHaul’s business model is somewhat unique among MCNs,” Peter Csathy, the CEO of digital business advisory agency Manatt Digital Media. “Because the beauty and fashion industry is commerce driven, StyleHaul stands to draw in big revenues that don’t need to be split with YouTube, in addition to more typical ad revenues and sponsored/branded content opportunities.”
Netflix will debut the original series from DreamWorks Animation, called All Hail King Julien, on Dec. 19. The animated series follows Madagascar movie franchise characters in 22-minute episodes with five episodes to hit the service first, and the rest rolling out in 2015. DreamWorks Animation first original series Turbo Fast debuted on Netflix in 2013, and plans to bring another ten episodes to Netflix in 2016.
Electric Sheep and FashionOne launched a new fashion-focused website, called Stylebrity. The new destination features Fashion One TV’s original content, allowing women to pick favorite looks while exploring related tips, makeup advice, street wear, designers, labels and more.
Southwest Airlines passengers will get access to Apple’s Beats Music curated music playlists starting Friday, thanks to a partnership with Global Eagle Entertainment. It is Apple’s first deal since purchasing Beats Music, and will bring GEE programming to airlines with wireless inflight service in the future.
Travel Channel launched its search for the next Travel Channel Star! on Monday. First prize in the three-round competition show, set for 2015 on Travelchannel.com, is a five-part series on the net’s digital platforms; entrants can attend a casting call in NYC or LA, or submit a video online at TravelChannelStar.com.
Starz is offering multiplatform sampling of the first episode of upcoming limited series The Missing starting Saturday, November 8, one week ahead of the show’s November 15 premiere at 9p. Starz subscribers will also be able to catch every new episode a week early, via On Demand and Starz Play app, with the final two shows available two weeks ahead of schedule. “This new scheduling strategy optimizes the value of our digital platform offerings as we increase viewer flexibility for viewing,” said David Baldwin, EVP, program planning, network operations for Starz.
Canadian SVOD Shomi launches today, with shows including American Horror Story, Modern Family, Sleepy Hollow and The Strain. The streaming service from Shaw Media and Rogers Media has an $8.99/month price tag, and an eye towards beating Netflix to the punch with binge-worthy offerings.
Nat Geo Wild announced the second annual “Wild To Inspire” filmmaking competition, with the winner getting the opportunity to travel to Africa and document wildlife for the net. Submissions will be accepted on Vimeo through January 16.

British TV streaming service Acorn TV acquired the first two seasons of the Australian drama A Place To Call Home. The 13-episode first season will hit the service on Dec. 1, and the ten-episode second season will debut in 2015. Acorn TV content can be viewed at Acorn.TV, via its Apple app and on its Roku channel.
MTV revealed that its next Ultimate Fan Experience sponsored by Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar will feature Nick Jonas. MTV and Applebee’s will run a series of spots across MTV’s various channels and screens (including MTV, MTV Hits, MTV.com, and MTV Artists) to encourage fans to head to UFE.MTV.com to enter for a chance to win.
