CYNOPSIS
11.03.14

Good morning. It’s Monday, November 3, 2014, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
Bravo: Vanderpump Rules at 9p, Euros of Hollywood at 10p
VH1: K.Michelle: My Life at 9p

Tonight’s Finales:
Food: Restaurant Impossible at 10p
ID: Beauty Queen Murders at 10p

NBC canceled low-rated Thursday comedies Bad Judge and A to Z. The freshman shows, which delivered .9/3  and .7/2 among A18-49, respectively, on their last outings, will remain in the 9p and 9:30p timeslots as they finish out their 13-ep orders. The Blacklist had already been scheduled to move to Thursdays at 9p post-Super Bowl.

IN THE NEWS

A fatal crash of the Virgin Galactic SpaceShipTwo on Friday put the future of an NBC-ordered reality series in question. The net had reached a deal a year ago with Virgin Galactic and Mark Burnett’s One Three Media for Space Race, which would have contestants compete to win a flight into space aboard the craft. In Friday’s tragedy, the pilot was killed and another person seriously injured during a test flight in California’s Mojave Desert.

Kevin Reilly is back in the game at Turner Broadcasting. Two weeks after they ended, talks between the former chairman of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting and Turner are back on for the head of programming position left vacant with Michael Wright’s departure two months ago, reported Deadline. Reilly left Fox in June.

Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) will replace Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds) in upcoming NBC mini-series The Slap, reports TVLine. Parker, recovering from pneumonia, had to bow out for health reasons. Filming has already started in New York.

Stephen Colbert announced an official end date for Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report: December 18. Colbert slides over to CBS’s Late Show next year; Larry Wilmore and The Minority Report take the Comedy slot in January.

Blame Netflix, said Sanford C. Bernstein analyst Todd Juenger in a report analyzing the 3Q14 drop in C3 ratings for ad-supported TV. “We examine all the evidence at hand and come to a strong conclusion that SVOD is primarily to blame,” said Juenger, predicting another 4 percent decline in linear TV thanks to Netflix. “It seems SVOD is no longer incremental, it has become cannibalistic.” Report said the drop is biggest in primetime and among younger demos.

Starz mob drama Magic City, canceled last year after two seasons, will be revived on the big screen with Bruce Willis and Bill Murray joining series regulars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danny Huston, Olga Kurylenko and Kelly Lynch. Mitch Glazer, who created the 1962-set show, wrote the script and will direct.

Woody Harrelson (True Detective) will take a third stab at hosting Saturday Night Live, on November 15. Musical act is hip hop’s Kendrick Lamar. It’s been a while since Harrelson last manned the NBC late night sketch comedy show – his prior stints were in 1989 and 1992.

Investigation Discovery launched Saturday in Denmark, the latest leg of an international rollout that began in 2009 that now has the net reaching over 100 million viewers outside the U.S. Launched six years ago Stateside, ID has grown from a top 50 network to a top five net for women. “I knew that Investigation Discovery could become a top ten brand in the U.S. and could also feed an international appetite for compelling, emotional mysteries,” said group president Henry Schleiff. “These incredible true stories of human nature are, indeed, universal, as demonstrated by the prolific success of the content around the world.”

TNT also ordered a pilot for Breed, about a series of mysterious murders and the creatures who may be committing them. Writer John Scott Shepherd, director Scott Winant (Fargo) and producer Nicky Weinstock will exec produce.

AMC is passing on drama pilots Knifeman, set in 18th century London, and action-adventure/sci-fi series Galyntine, both AMC owned and produced. “We have enormous admiration and appreciation for everyone involved in these projects,” said the net.
