NBCUniversal picked up a win with the announcement that the company agreed to a six-year extension of its partnership with the Premier League and will exclusively present all 380 matches, along with studio programming, and a slate content across NBC, USA Network, Peacock, Telemundo, Universo, and other platforms. With the new agreement, which begins with the 2022-23 season next summer, NBC Sports, Peacock, and Telemundo Deportes will present the Premier League through 2028.

“We are excited to come to this long-term extension with the Premier League,” said Pete Bevacqua, Chairman, NBC Sports. “Our Premier League team, led by Jon Miller, has been incredibly dedicated to growing the Premier League in the United States over the last nine years. This new agreement is also a testament to the hard work of production, marketing and other areas of our company, as well as the tremendous partnership that has been established with the leadership and club owners of the Premier League.”

FOX Sports is marking the one year of the FIFA World Cup with a slate of initiatives across its television, digital and social platforms. Among the bevy of content on deck, this Sunday, FOX NFL KICKOFF will mark the one-year out occasion during the broadcast, with promotional images set to take over New York’s Times Square ‘Godzilla Board while Tubi’s sports streaming destination “Sports on Tubi” will stream replays of memorable 2021 soccer tournaments, including Copa America on FOX, Concacaf Gold Cup, Concacaf Champions League. Additionally, FOX Bet Sportsbook revealed fans (in legal states) can place their bets on the FOX Bet Sportsbook.

Thanksgiving night will see Mike Tirico and Drew Brees call the Bills/Saints holiday matchup at 8p on NBC and Peacock. Tirico and Brees will be joined at Caesars Superdome by Michele Tafoya, who reports from the sidelines and SNF rules analyst Terry McAulay.

Meanwhile, NBC Sports and Feld Motor Sports announced the 2022 Monster Energy AMA Supercross telecast schedule, featuring a record three live races and 13 total hours of coverage on NBC. All 17 Supercross races, highlighted by exclusive live coverage of heats, qualifiers and main event races, will be presented across NBC, CNBC, USA Network, Peacock and NBC Sports digital platforms. Telemundo Deportes’ coverage of the CONCACAF FIFA World Cup qualifying match Canada/Mexico on Tuesday, delivered 2.1 million total viewers and 1 million adults 18-49 during the match window, becoming Telemundo’s most-watched sporting event since the 2019 Copa America Final Brazil vs. Peru. Canada’s 2-1 win over Mexico fueled Telemundo to become the top broadcast network in primetime during 8-11p among adults 18-49 and 18-34, regardless of language.

Elsewhere, NBA on TNT’s Warriors/Nets on Tuesday night handed the network with its most-watched NBA telecast since Opening Night, notching an average of 2.3 million. Overall, TNT is averaging 1.6 million viewers, up 31% vs. last year’s regular season average (1.2 million viewers, 66 games) and 16% through the same number of games in 2019-20 (1.4 million viewers, 12 games). Inside the NBA is delivering a 42% viewership gain over last year’s regular season average.

The NHRA from Pomona posted 341,000 viewers on FS1, up 20% over the 2019 Pomona event. With the numbers, the NHRA finished with its best season since 2018 averaging 513,000 viewers across FOX and FS1 in 2021, up 3% over its COVID-abbreviated 2020 season across FOX and FS1 (497,000), and up 5% over its 2019 season across the two networks (487,000).

The NCAA is expanding the women’s basketball tournament, announcing that the field will now showcase 68 teams instead of 64 starting this season. The women’s selection show will now take place on Sunday on ESPN, shifting from its traditional Monday slot to accommodate the extra games, which will be played March 16-17. The last four at-large teams and teams seeded 65 through 68 will compete in the opening-round games prior to the start of the first and second rounds of the championship, which begin March 18-19.

Turner Sports tees off on the next installment of Capital One’s The Match, pitting Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a head-to-head showdown. TNT will exclusively televise the 12-hole event, to be held on Nov. 26, with live coverage beginning at 4p from Wynn Las Vegas. TNT’s presentation of Capital One’s The Match will also be simulcast on TBS, truTV and HLN. ESPN delivered plans for NCAA Gymnastics coverage across ESPN networks, with more than 60 hours of flips, full-outs and all-around action in 2022, including broadcast coverage on ABC for both the 2022 NCAA National Collegiate Women’s Gymnastics Championships. The Championship Final will be live on April 16 at 1p. New in 2022, ABC will broadcast a regular season contest, as two of the top teams in the Southeastern Conference, Alabama and Florida, flip into action on Jan. 16 at 3p.

ESPN Events’ 2022 St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational Presented by Wilson returns to the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. for its third year with all 40 softball games available across ESPN platforms, including 20 televised matchups. Games will be available across ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, Longhorn Network and ESPN+. “We are grateful to bring back the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational in 2022 after a year away,” said Kristen Shaver, Director, ESPN Events. “The strength of teams and interest from the softball community for this event is at an all-time high. Crypto.com made headlines again this week as the cryptocurrency platform and AEG launched a 20-year naming rights agreement that will rename the STAPLES Center. Effective Dec. 25, the arena will be known as Crypto.com Arena. Bud Light signed World Lightweight Champion Teofimo Lopez to its talent roster ahead of his title bout next weekend. Lopez announced the deal via Instagram, and now becomes the first boxer on Bud Light’s roster. The lightweight will showcase Bud Light across his trunks when he steps into the ring to defend his World Lightweight Championship belt at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 27.

Division Street and Opendorse announced the coming launch of the Official NIL Marketplace of the Oregon Ducks. The curated marketplace will look to “empower Oregon athletes to connect with supporters and facilitate NIL partnerships via a curated one-app experience.” “Division Street’s goal is to deliver elevated opportunities for all athletes across sport and gender,” said Division Street CEO Rosemary St. Clair. “We’re built to serve student-athletes, so leveraging the Opendorse platform to simplify the NIL experience for Oregon was a natural step.”


The NBA and Sportradar Group announced an expansive multiyear partnership agreement that will see the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League leverage Sportradar’s global and wide-ranging capabilities to grow U.S. operations, increase their international footprint and drive fan engagement. This begins with the 2023-24 NBA season and provides the NBA with an equity stake in Sportradar, maintaining Sportradar as the exclusive provider of NBA data worldwide. In addition, the new relationship includes expanded distribution rights regarding the use of player tracking data.

WAVE.tv expanded its relationship with FloSports. The agreement enables WAVE.tv to continue offering FloSports’ ‘best of’ content across all digital platforms, while also creating new programming for its audience utilizing FloSports’ current live programming and historical content archives.

Twitter released a data report, titled “The Conversation: It’s a touchdown on Twitter,” that showcases insights about early-season football conversation on Twitter. The data showed 65% growth in unique Tweets during the NFL pre-season as well as 48% growth in unique Tweets during the college football season. For the first half of the season, the most mentioned teams have been the Packers, Cowboys and Raiders.

Electronic Arts revealed a new digital cover of EA SPORTS Madden NFL 22 for the holiday season that features Bo Jackson on his first cover, and reignites 90s nostalgia for the famed Nike Bo Knows campaign. Starting today in Madden NFL 22, players can explore Bo Jackson’s football legacy with new experiences and content across some of the game’s most popular modes including Ultimate Team, The Yard, and Superstar KO.

The NFL announced an opportunity for fans to receive complimentary virtual commemorative tickets in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) after attending select games from Thanksgiving through the end of the 2021 NFL season. Fans who purchase tickets for select games through the NFL Ticketing Network (Ticketmaster, StubHub, or SeatGeek), and attend, will be eligible to receive a virtual commemorative ticket. Fans will access the virtual commemorative ticket through an email that they will receive postgame, and then be able to manage the NFT in a dedicated NFL NFT marketplace powered by Ticketmaster. In addition to the commemorative NFTs given to fans after attending select games, the marketplace will also offer a limited number of digital collectible NFTs across all 32 clubs for fans to purchase and collect. Fans will also have the opportunity to trade or sell their commemorative NFTs.

Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. and Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. locked in a multi-year marketing partnership with Caesars Sportsbook, making Caesars Sportsbook an Official Sports Betting Partner of the New York Knicks, New York Rangers, Madison Square Garden Arena and MSG Networks. In addition, the sportsbook operator will also gain digital media exposure across MSG Sports’ and MSG Entertainment’s platforms, as well as unique MSG and hospitality experiences at The World’s Most Famous Arena that will be available to Caesars Rewards program customers. BELLATOR MMA announced that U-NEXT has become the promotion’s new exclusive broadcast partner in Japan beginning with BELLATOR 272: Pettis vs. Horiguchi. The exclusive two-year streaming agreement will see U-NEXT air all BELLATOR live events, including preliminary bouts and have a library of past events on demand beginning in December.


Riot Games announced the promotion of John Needham to the role of Riot Games’ President of Esports where he will lead the organization under which all of Riot’s esports titles and operations will now be unified, and he’ll be one of five leaders to report into CEO Nicolo Laurent. Within Needham’s governance will be 11-year old industry pioneer League of Legends Esports (LoL Esports), the rising FPS esport VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT), Wild Rift Esports (which concludes its first global tournament on Sunday), and multiple other games under a new Organized Play umbrella at Riot Games (Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, and future games).

Nintendo is tapping the talents of Panda Global, a leading organization in the Super Smash Bros. community to operate the first-ever officially licensed championship circuit in North America for both the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. Melee games. New Meta Entertainment launched its women in gaming and esports media platform: Raidiant.gg, a website, initiative and content hub that will focus on “celebrating and championing opportunities for women gamers.” As the next stage of Dignitas’ women’s initiative, Raidiant will provide educational, social and competitive resources for gamers. The platform features catalogs of women’s tournaments, educational resources and tips from partners, digital content, esports team and influencer directories and more.

Twitch and AT&T are teaming to introduce the AT&T Class of 2021, an initiative to provide 12 “promising Twitch streamers with a unique opportunity to elevate their careers to the next level.” Each streamer will receive a mentorship, equipment, a sponsored Stream by AT&T: as well as career amplification. “This custom sponsorship program is about finding the next generation of up-and-coming streamers, celebrating them, and providing the resources and guidance to grow their communities,” said Lou Garate, Head of Global Sponsorship Sales at Twitch. “Creators are the heart of Twitch, and we’re proud to build a program with AT&T that directly connects with our community’s values around creator support.”

Team Liquid and presenting partner Coinbase announced that the mobile app for Liquid+ is now available for open beta access. Since Liquid+ officially launched in January 2021, the platform has witnessed over 13.5K Fan Stories and 90K fan messages, with 1.69 billion Liquid+ points awarded across all accounts.

Misfits Gaming Group is adding three senior executives as the company restructures towards a media enterprise. Former Activision Blizzard executive, Steve Brauntuch joins MGG as the organization’s first chief marketing officer. Operating and staff executive, Candace Rhymer is now the company’s first chief people officer, focused on scaling and implementing the internal practices required for healthy team expansion. Alyson Schefren also joins MGG as its new vice president of integrated marketing for the sales team after years serving as a marketing consultant.


The United States Football League, which will debut next spring, unveiled its senior management team. Brian Woods, founder of The Spring League and its Chief Executive Officer from 2017 to 2021, will serve as the USFL’s President of Football Operations. Daryl Johnston joins as Executive Vice President, Football Operations. Mike Pereira will act as the new league’s head of officiating, and FOX Sports’ Edward Hartman will serve as Executive Vice President, Business Operations. The new league will include eight teams when it launches in April 2022, split evenly between a North and South Division. Each team will play a 10-game schedule, followed by semifinals in each division, and a championship game between division winners.

Playfly Sports announced the hiring of Christy Hedgpeth as President of Playfly Sports Properties. Hedgpeth will oversee Playfly’s 30+ high school and collegiate multimedia rights properties with responsibility for driving strategy, operations and growth. Hedgpeth was previously the Vice President for Team Marketing and Business Operations servicing both the WNBA and NBA.
