NBC’s post-Super Bowl LVI time slot will be given to the Winter Olympics in lieu of a traditional show, according to NBC Entertainment Networks chairman Frances Berwick told reporters, stating “We have the benefit and the luxury of being right in the middle of the Olympics and we have a commitment to air live Olympics. Given the time difference, it will be full on prime games for us as we come out of the Super Bowl.”

PROGRAMMING

Meanwhile, Thursday Night Football notched an average audience of 13 million for the Dolphins’ win over the Ravens across FOX, NFL Network, FOX Deportes, NFL digital, FOX Sports digital, Amazon Prime Video, Twitch and Yahoo Sports mobile properties. That number is up 3% over last year’s Week 10 score. Season-to-date, Thursday Night Football tri-cast games on FOX, NFL Network and Amazon Prime Video are averaging 14.7 million viewers across all platforms – up 15% vs. the comparable point last season (12.8 million).

Speaking of football, Disney is in play for rights for NFL Sunday Ticket, company CEO Bob Chapek stated, noting that the package “would make a particularly good addendum to our ESPN+ service.”

The Pelican Women’s Championship announced a multi-year extension with the LPGA Tour to host the championship at Pelican Golf Club through 2025. In addition, beginning with the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship, the purse will increase to $2 million. “We are excited to extend our partnership with the LPGA Tour in bringing the world’s best female professional golfers to Tampa Bay for the Pelican Women’s Championship,” said Dan Doyle Jr, Pelican Golf Club. “We are committed to providing a best-in-class experience for the players and fans alike, and we are thankful for the tremendous support from the Belleair community in helping to build this new championship as a premier event on the LPGA Tour.”

For the first time in the history of HBO’s sports reality franchise, Hard Knocks will serve up a multi-episode, in-season edition when HBO Sports and NFL FILMS team up for Hard Knocks in Season: The Indianapolis Colts. The slate premiers on Wedneday at 10p and will be available on HBO and to stream on HBO Max.

StellarAlgo, a customer cloud platform for the sports and live audience industry, announced a $16.5 million Series A funding round led by Toronto-based Carallas Holdings. Other new investors include Newbound VC, and Bleacher Report founder Dave Finocchio. The round also included follow-on investment from existing shareholders Accelerate Fund II, Bluesky Equities, and Intergen Capital. To date, StellarAlgo has raised $19.0 million. Funds will be used to continue the growth of StellarAlgo’s cloud-based solutions, which help sports and live event organizations monetize their live audiences using insights-driven sales, marketing and analytics tools.

ESPORTS

American professional poker player Dan (Jungleman) Cates became the latest name to invest in esports organization QLASH. Cates recently won his first World Series Of Poker bracelet. The move sees Cates become the latest poker personality to invest in the squad, joining Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth and Jeff Gross. QLASH was founded in 2017 by two former professional poker players: Luca Pagano and Eugene Katchalov. “The gaming and esports industry is constantly growing and, with further reflection, I believe it can be used for people to learn experientially,” said Cates. “It’s a business with a lot of potentials. I believe QLASH is a strong investment and I’m sure there are many strategic partnerships we can do and provide value”.
