Media and real estate execs announced plans to launch multi-platform The Real Estate Network by early 2016, offering “real estate information and transaction capability for consumers.” Founding ESPN chairman Stuart Evey is chairman of the board; real estate entrepreneur Robert Atkinson is CEO. The venture “has the same potential as ESPN and will revolutionize the real estate industry in the same way that ESPN did for sports,” said Evey.

IN THE NEWS

NBCUniversal’s Telemundo and mun2 announced plans for over 550 hours of FIFA soccer events across all video platforms. “Three years and one week ago, NBCUniversal announced the game-changing acquisition of the exclusive Spanish-language US media rights to the FIFA World Cup,” said Joe Uva, chairman, Hispanic Enterprises and content, NBCU. “We are proud to see the first tangible manifestation of this major acquisition, which will bring unprecedented exposure for Telemundo and mun2 and offer a unique opportunity to accelerate audience growth and consolidate our position in the industry.” Fox has English-language rights.

Netflix released the first trailer for Marco Polo – a series that, judging from the minute-and-a-half clip, is not for the squeamish. Or prudish. Historical drama from Netflix and The Weinstein Company will be available for streaming Friday, December 12.

One of the highlights of CBS’s holiday programming will be the 50th anniversary airing of Christmas classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on Tuesday, December 9 at 8p. Also on tap: an I Love Lucy Christmas Special, with back-to-back showings of the once-thought-lost “Christmas Episode,” which aired last year, alongside “Job Switching” (aka the classic “Chocolate Factory”; last year it was stomping grapes).

Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris and husband David Burtka will guest star on the final two episodes of FX’s American Horror Story: Freak Show, reports TV Line. Creator Ryan Murphy crafted the roles after pal and superfan Harris expressed interest.

David Gregory, replaced on NBC’s Meet the Press by Chuck Todd in August, will not be sitting out the midterm elections. Instead, he’ll be sitting beside Katie Couric as a guest on a Tuesday election special on Yahoo, where Couric is global anchor.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is moving from movie stars to mathematicians. The host of the 2013 Oscars will host the 2nd Annual Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, designed to “celebrate scientists and generate excitement about the pursuit of science as a career.” Presenters for the event, airing in the U.S. November 15 at 6p on Discovery and Science, include Cameron Diaz, Kate Beckinsale and Jon Hamm. MacFarlane’s no stranger to science – he was an exec producer on the 2014 update of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, and has said, “The work of Carl Sagan has been a profound influence on my life.”

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Paramount Television and Jerry Bruckheimer announced they’re developing a TV adaptation of American Gigolo. Bruckheimer, a producer on the 1980 crime drama starring Richard Gere, will exec produce; Paul Schrader, director and writer of the film, will serve as an executive consultant. “When it comes to making great television entertainment, Jerry Bruckheimer Television is in a league unto themselves,” said Amy Powell, president of Paramount Television. Bruckheimer TV programs include the CSI franchise and The Amazing Race.

Lifetime ordered The Women of the Bible from Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (The Bible), to be narrated by Downey and featuring interviews with women in the faith community. Two-hour special on Sunday, December 7 at 7p leads into biblical miniseries The Red Tent.

Can TV change the world? As more creators and producers wield greater power in the industry, it’s becoming not just a cultural phenomenon but a personal movement. Sundance Productions president Laura Michalchyshyn talks about the making of EPIX‘s new original documentary To Russia With Love in the new Cynsiders, and shows exactly how it already has changed one young man’s life for the better.

COMING UP

Heavy metal band Metallica will perform every night the week of November 17-21 on CBS’s The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson, sitting down for an interview with the host on Monday. Hero Dogs, a two-hour special honoring eight canines, premieres on Hallmark Channel tonight at 8p. But during taping of the show September 27, focus shifted to felines. As hosts James Denton (Desperate Housewives) and Beth Stern improvised in front of the audience of 700 people after a teleprompter snafu, Stern was asked about her husband, radio bad boy Howard Stern. “If you really want to know what he’s up to,” admitted the animal advocate, “he’s home with our 11 cats.”
