Good morning. It’s Thursday, October 30, 2014, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

A Royals domination in Game 6 of the World Series still handed FOX with the highest-rated and most-watched contest of the 2014 World Series to-date and scored an 8.1/13 household rating/share, with 13.4 million viewers tuning in, per Nielsen. Adding in FOX Deportes own share of the audience, viewership for the game rises to 13.6 million. Anyway, the FOX rating and audience for Game 6 mark 11% and 6% rises over Game 5 and ranks as the network’s highest-rated prime-time broadcast (excluding Super Bowl Sunday) since the American Idol premiere in January. Kansas City led all markets with a 54.6/72, followed by San Francisco’s 27.7/48.

ON THE AIR

NBC Sports Group is turning to Krista Voda to serve as the face of the company’s upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series pre- and post-race coverage. Voda leaves her role on FOX for a multi-year agreement that will also include regular appearances as host of NASCAR America NBCSN, as well as a range of assignments across NBC Sports and NBC Olympics. Voda is the current host of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pre-race show for Fox Sports.

Speaking of NBCSN, the network announced plans to will televise the second annual Medal of Honor Bowl, set for Jan. 10, 2015, at 2:30p from Johnson Hagood Stadium in Charleston, S.C. Players from more than 30 different Division I programs are expected to be represented.

More movement on the NFL in London front, as the AP writes that a study by accountancy firm Deloitte, commissioned by the NFL and a London marketing agency, showed that an NFL franchise in the city could generate more than $250 million a year for the country. The league will reportedly slate five games in the city next year.

iN DEMAND announced that NBA League Pass on digital cable, the NBA’s subscription package of out-of-market games, is launching the new season with an eight-day free preview on digital cable. Cable systems around the country are offering the free preview through Nov. 4. In addition to the television package, subscribers are given free access to all the games on NBA.com and on mobile devices all season. In addition, the service will also offer game replays, dual feeds, a mosaic channel, a stats channel and HD games.

On the radio front, SiriusXM announced Orlando Magic rookie forward Aaron Gordon has been selected to host the second season of Year One, the SiriusXM NBA Radio show. The program debuts today at 6p and run weekly on the channel throughout the season. Last year’s inaugural season of Year One featured Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum.
 
Yahoo! Sports Radio will, in partnership with The Basketball Channel, launch Ballin’ Live, a new NBA and college-focused weekly radio program offering listeners an insider look at the game from the perspective of former players, scouts and coaches. Program is hosted by Van Coleman, Jerome Williams and Brett Grant. Ballin’ Live debuts Thursday, Nov. 11, and will originate from The Palazzo Las Vegas on Tuesdays at 8p.

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and Commissioner Bill Robertson locked in a deal with 96.3 K-TWIN (KTWN-FM) and Northern Lights Broadcasting will serve as the exclusive radio promotional partner for the 2015 WCHA Final Five. The partnership will start in January and is designed to “elevate the 2015 WCHA Final Five through on-air, social media assets, online promotions, ticket giveaways and exclusive interviews.” The 2015 WCHA Final Five will be held March 20-21 at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn.

More growth for Whistle Sports, which revealed that Sky has invested $7 million into the cross-platform network. In addition, the two companies will partner to create new content for younger sports fans, particularly ‘young millennials’. "This partnership is a tremendous fit for us, given our focus on international expansion,” said John West, Founder and CEO, Whistle Sports. “Sky is a recognized leader in sports entertainment and delivery and brings to the partnership some of the highest quality creative and production teams in sports. We look forward to connecting them with our rapidly growing audience and community of creators."
 
MSG Networks is launching MSG GO, a new service designed to offer sports fans access to live television and video on demand content on smartphones, tablets, and computers.The platform launching in December, and will offer all live Knicks games as they appear on MSG Networks as well as programming that includes all Knicks live pre- and post-game shows and current and past episodes of MSG original programming.
