Jimmy Kimmel Live plans post-presidential debate fun following the third head-to-head between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Wednesday, October 13. Kimmel’s guests include Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, a debate non-invitee, and Debate 2 sensation, Ken Bone. Show airs 11:35p on ABC.

CBS launched the CBS Drama Diversity Casting Initiative, a nationwide program to find new talent for the net’s current series and upcoming pilots. Part of the CBS Diversity Institute, the initiative is designed to reach untapped talent across the country and bring them to the attention of casting executives and CBS showrunners, culminating with a network screen test in Los Angeles.

Discovery Communications agreed to make a minority investment of $100 million and enter into a strategic partnership with Group Nine Media, a new media holding company consisting of Thrillist Media Group, NowThis Media, The Dodo and Discovery’s digital network Seeker (along with its production studio SourceFed Studios). Axel Springer maintains its investment as the second largest shareholder. Ben Lerer, CEO of Thrillist, will become CEO of Group Nine Media.

After eight years, Chris Rock is returning to the stage for two new comedy specials. The comedian will be paid $40 million in total for the Netflix gigs, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first special tapes in 2017 with a world tour to follow.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Strong ratings have earned Logo’s Finding Prince Charming a second season order. The reality dating series, hosted by Lance Bass, features a bachelor searching for the man of his dreams.

Comedy Central ordered a fourth season of This Is Not Happening, to bow in 2017. Show features Ari Shaffir, who also EPs, and his comedian friends telling stories in front of a live audience at Cheetahs in Hollywood.

FOX bought family thriller drama Kin from Milo Ventimiglia and Royal Pains co-creator Andrew Lenchewski. The project hails from DiVide Pictures, Ventimiglia’s production company with Russ Cundiff. Project centers on a tight-knit Florida law-enforcement family who become the primary suspects in the disappearance of a notorious drug cartel leader.

Lifetime picked up dark comedic drama Mary Kills People. The six-episode euthanasia-themed series stars Caroline Dhavernas (Hannibal) and is slated to debut in 2017.

Electus has partnered with Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment and Principato-Young Entertainment to adapt Singapore series The Kitchen Musical for the U.S. The show, focused on a young woman who becomes the new sous chef at her father’s famous restaurant, includes song and dance.

truTV greenlit Upscale with Prentice Penny, an unscripted lifestyle series helmed by the showrunner, writer and producer. Created by Penny with DEFY Media’s Chris Pollack and Jared Hoffman, the show received a 12-episode first season order and is set to premiere on in spring 2017.

ID has teamed with People magazine on 10-part series, People Magazine Investigates. Drawing from the reporting of the magazine’s true crime editorial team, series delves into extraordinary tales of ordinary people thrust into the national spotlight. Two-hour season premiere, The Long Island Serial Killer, airs Monday, November 7 at 9p.

Dan Powell, co-creator and EP of Inside Amy Schumer, signed a first-look deal with First Look Media to develop film, TV and digital projects. First on the slate is The Nib, a short form animated series based on the political cartoon site of the same name.

ABC gave a series order to Five to Survive, a one-hour game show featuring interactions between Ricky Gervais and kids. Gervais teams with Banijay Studios North America to produce. A search for a host is underway.

Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent, has partnered with Larry King Live EP Wendy Walker on a medical drama that has landed a script commitment at ABC. The untitled project centers on a team of physicians working for a cable news operation.

MTV is developing War of the Worlds, a contemporary drama series based on H. G. Wells’ alien invasion novel, reports Deadline. Project will be penned by former Teen Wolf writer Andrew Cochran and exec produced by MTV creator/EP Jeff Davis as well as The Firm’s Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinetz.

John Grisham’s The Rainmaker, is being adapted into a drama series from Code Black creator/EP Michael Seitzman and former EP Brett Mahoney. The project received a put pilot commitment from CBS.

Comedy Central in the U.S. and CBC in Canada commissioned new comedy Crawford from Rabbit Square Productions. Series centers around a young man, who after a run of bad luck, moves back in with his parents and turns his natural ability to relate to raccoons into a successful business. Production begins in Toronto in 2017.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Treasure Quest: Snake Island returns Friday, November 4 at 10p to Discovery Channel. The show’s sophomore season features the treasure hunters departing Snake Island and continuing their journey into the deepest recesses of the South American mainland.

Bravo Media’s Top Chef heads to Charleston, South Carolina, in a new season debuting Thursday, December 1 at 10p. Eight acclaimed chefs from across the country will unpack their knives alongside eight chefs from seasons past who are back for redemption.

TV One’s “True Crime Monday” night line-up adds new episodes of Justice By Any Means on Monday, October 24 at 10p. Show is hosted by Malik Yoba (Designated Survivor, Bad Dad Rehab).

Quinceanera debuts on Discovery Familia on Thursday, October 20 at 9p. Series showcases the work of Miami party planners and dress shop owners who cater to families eager to maintain one of the oldest traditions in Latin culture.

COMING UP

Antenna TV begins airing “Halloween Spooktacular” programming on Saturday, October 30 at 3a. Things kick off with a 9-hour marathon of Addams Family, leading into a block of Halloween-themed episodes of series. On Sunday, October 31 at 3a, the net airs a 40-episode marathon of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

The 50th Annual CMA Awards, ABC and Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts bring viewers the eighth annual pre-CMA Awards Special, All Access Nashville: Celebrating the CMA Awards with Robin Roberts, on Monday, October 31 at 10p on ABC. The 50th Annual CMA Awards air live Wednesday, November 2 at 8p on ABC.

DISTRIBUTION

Stingray Digital Group Inc. extended its long-term distribution agreement with Shaw Communications Inc. Under the terms of the deal, Shaw Cable and Shaw Direct will carry Stingray’s four music video TV channels – Stingray Vibe, Stingray Juicebox, Stingray Loud and Stingray Retro – in addition to Stingray Concerts, Stingray Karaoke and Stingray Music.

Hearst Television’s weekend political magazine show, Matter of Fact, is expanding to Estrella TV Network’s affiliated outlets in six television markets across the country. The show, hosted by Soledad O’Brien, will air Sundays within the 8a to 9:30a window, beginning October 16 (check local listings).

CASTING

Joel David Moore (Forever) nabbed a lead role alongside Will Sasso in Amazon comedy pilot Budding Prospects. He’ll play one of three hapless city boys who moves to the country to grow marijuana.

Leonard Roberts (American Crime Story: The People Vs O.J. Simpson) will recur on Syfy’s sophomore season of The Magicians. He’ll portray King Idri of Loria, a skilled swordfighter.

Beth Lacke (Work It) booked a recurring role on The CW drama Frequency as a troubled woman with a dark past.

KID STUFF

Cartoon Network slides into action with America’s favorite pastime in a World Series-themed episode of Uncle Grandpa, premiering Saturday, October 22 at 12:15p. In the episode, Uncle Grandpa enlists New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Chris Archer, Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price to help train his struggling little league team.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Nat Geo Wild explores surprising wildlife found in our own backyards in new digital series Untamed, starting in March 2017 on the net’s YouTube channel.

Buzzfeed Media Pictures and Keshet Studios have teamed to create a transmedia version of Israeli game show Touch to be developed around the concept created by Ido Rosenblum and Keshet for the original. The move propels Buzzmedia’s entrance into linear TV and expands its digital footprint with simultaneous launches online and on mobile through its platforms and distribution channels.

Spike TV has brought Lip Sync Battle directly to fans with a new interactive app in partnership with music technology engine Wurrly and Casey Patterson Entertainment. The launch, which coincided with the show’s Season 3 premiere on Wednesday, allows fans to create lip sync videos to their favorite songs and battle friends in the same format as the series.

Saffron Pictures, Soho Moon and Facet4 Media began principal photography on six-part drama Acceptable Risk in Dublin. A contemporary thriller set in the high stakes world of Big Pharma, series makes its US premiere in 2017 on Acorn TV.

Jeff Skoll’s Participant Media is buying Rainn Wilson’s Soul Pancake, a digital enterprise known for web content like online series The Science Of Happiness. Some 8.8 million social media fans and 1.7 million YouTube subscribers have flocked to SoulPancake since its 2009 launch.

Ownzones struck a deal with Gas Station TV to feature The List. The news magazine show, created by The E.W. Scripps Company, will appear on GSTV’s video network, which entertains 70 million consumers every month while they fill up their cars.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

A+E Networks has sold military action drama Six, which is set to make its world premiere on U.S.’s History channel in 2017, to  broadcasters in some 50 territories around the world. Signed up for the eight-part series are HBO Europe (Central and Eastern Europe), HBO Nordics, HBO Spain, iFlix (Southeast Asia), History Southeast Asia, History Latin America and History Canada.

KABO International brokered deals for scripted comedy, Adam & Eve. The series was optioned to KABO Family for France and Project 10 Productions Inc. for the US and English speaking Canada. The format is also currently under option in Turkey with Astra Films.

Ericsson acquired over 2,500 hours of content from international distributors including Viacom (MTV, BET, Nickelodeon), MGM, CBS, Al Jazeera, DHX Media and Mattel. Titles include Hawaii Five-O, Next Top Model, CSI: Miami, Being Mary Jane, SpongeBob SquarePants, Bob the Builder and Vikings.

Corus Entertainment’s W Network and Bristow Global Media Inc. greenlit Hockey Wives for a third season. Set to air in spring 2017, the series centers on women balancing families, careers and personal aspirations while being married to the game.

PromaxBDA UK is presenting The New Normal, a promotion and marketing conference featuring talks and live demonstrations from big names in media, marketing and technology, on November 3. Speaker line-up includes experts from BBC,
ITN, NBC Universal International, Sky, Channel 4, Facebook, Amazon Video, Viceland, ManMadeMusic, BRaVe Ventures, MiMo Brands, Laduma and Kaltura.

The CW’s Arrow was up 4 percent in total viewers (1.95 million) over its season premiere episode last week and held steady in all key demos (0.6/3 in A18-34, 0.7/3 in A18-49). Frequency held even in A18-34 (0.3/1) with last week’s series debut.

Live + 7 highlights for Tuesday, October 4 show FOX comedies Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl doubling their total multi-platform average audience. Brooklyn Nine-Nine reached an early season high of 1.4 million viewers from Hulu and FOX NOW.  New Girl grew 120 percent vs. same day (2.0 million), marking the second consecutive week it has more than doubled its same day audience in 7-day delivery.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer John Feltheimer inked a new long term contract extending his tenure with the company through 2023. He has been Liongate’s CEO for 16 years.

CBS All Access has named Danny Feldheim as Vice President, Original Content. Before joining the net’s digital subscription VOD and live streaming service., Feldheim worked in drama programming at FOX.

A+E Networks UK appointed Daniel Korn as Vice President of Programming. Korn joins from STV Productions, where he was Creative Director.

VH1 promoted Dara Cook to Vice President, Strategic Development. Cook was previously Executive Producer at the network.

Discovery Education made three appointments to its Curriculum and Customer Success teams. Camsie McAdams, formerly Partner of Academic Strategy at The New Teacher Project, was named Director of STEM Curriculum. Deanne Rotfeld, previously Executive Director of Account Management at Amplify, was hired as Vice President of Customer Success.
