“The Real Love Boat,” launched on CBS on October 5, is moving to the network’s streaming sib, Paramount+ for the remainder of its run. The reality show’s premiere episode drew 2.4 million viewers; numbers have since fallen below 2 million.

CNN’s long-term plan “will no longer rely on commissioned projects,” CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht informed staffers in a memo. Licht added that longform content “remains an important pillar of our programming”; the move to in-house production is a cost-cutting measure in the face of the rising cost of third-party content.

Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints,” tweeted Elon Musk after gaining control of the company. “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.” The announcement came after Musk fired Twitter chief executive Parag Agrawal, top policy executive Vijaya Gadde, CFO Ned Segal and and general counsel Sean Edgett, and dissolved the board of directors.

Pointing to a report that Musk’s takeover sparked a nearly 500% increase in the use of a racial slur on Twitter, NBA star LeBron James tweeted, “This is scary AF. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.” Shonda Rhimes was among those deciding to quit Twitter under its new ownership. “Not hanging around for whatever Elon has planned. Bye,” tweeted the TV titan. Donald Trump had a different take. “I am very happy that Twitter now is in sane hands and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate out country,” posted the former president on Truth Social.

Netflix has renewed “The Witcher” for season four, with a major recast: Liam Hemsworth (“The Hunger Games”) will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Cavill, who is reprising his role as Superman in an upcoming film as well as starring in “Enola Holmes 2,” posted on Instagram, “I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.” Season three of the fantasy series is slated to premiere in summer 2023.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Breaking Beyond,” a docuseries following six world class breakerdancers across the globe, premieres on Insight TV on November 19. Breaking will be featured as an Olympic sport in 2024.

TikTok star Alix Traeger (think Caesar salad) is partnering with Target to bring exclusive, curated content as well as competition on Food Network’s “Chopped.” “Social Showdown” premieres tomorrow, November 1 at 8p.

“The Last Cowboy” is back for season three on CMT on November 18 at 10p. The competition series from Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) focuses on participants in the sport of horse reining.

COMING UP

“Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” makes its NBC debut on December 1 at 8p. Parton stars as herself, meta-y, in a movie musical about the making of a live TV special.

“The Silent Twins,” telling the true story of twins who only communicated with each other, premieres November 4 on Peacock. The film is based on the best-selling book.

SPORTS

The Big 12 is locking in its long-term plans, according to multiple reports, and is finalizing a media deal that will run through at least the 2030-31 season in a six-year, $2.3 billion extension of its media rights agreement with partners ESPN and Fox Sports. The new accord, which kicks in starting in 2025, includes ESPN owning more than 60% of the inventory and Fox adding more college basketball.

The Milwaukee Bucks victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Oct. 26 ranked as ESPN’s most-watched NBA regular season weeknight early game in four years, dating back to Nov. 2018 – according to Nielsen. The game generated 2,001,000 viewers across ESPN and ESPN2 combined. In addition, Wednesday’s late game – Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Denver Nuggets – averaged 1,816,000 viewers on ESPN.

Prime Video will collaborate with UNINTERRUPTED The Shop to introduce a new, live presentation as part of its Thursday Night Football alternate stream offerings. Titled “TNF in The Shop,” executive producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter and co-creator Paul Rivera will welcome a variety of special guests during a “watch party-style” experience when Prime Video presents exclusive live coverage of Thursday Night Football on November 17, as the Tennessee Titans visit the Green Bay Packers.

Sinclair Broadcast Group and Tennis Channel Studios, in partnership with DLP Media Group, produced a new documentary special, RIVALS. The film will take a “deep dive into the high-profile, storied college-football matchup between Michigan and Ohio State, offering viewers unique perspectives from legendary players, sports journalists and announcers, scientists, historians and more.” RIVALS will premiere Nov. 5 on multiple Bally Sports regional networks, and run throughout the month on a wide variety of Sinclair and other platforms, with a nationwide debut on Tennis Channel Nov. 20 at 7p.

Stifel Financial, a wealth management and investment banking company, and U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced an official partnership. As part of the partnership, Stifel Financial will become the title sponsor of the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team. In addition, U.S. Ski & Snowboard and Stifel will collaborate on a career and financial education program, designed to help athletes with savings and investing strategy. The sponsorship is the most significant in U.S. Ski & Snowboard history and the first that encompasses all elite levels of competition in North America.

IMG hired Robert Klein as Managing Director, Head of Global Football for IMG Media. Klein has served most recently as Bundesliga International CEO.

STREAMING

The Hollywood Bowl transforms into Casita from “Encanto” in a concert event, “Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl,” with a special introduction by Lin-Manuel Miranda. From Disney Branded Television and produced by Fulwell 73 Productions, the original special will be available to stream on Wednesday, Dec. 28 on Disney+.
