IN THE NEWS

Mark Harmon has left his role on NCIS – but that doesn’t mean viewers won’t see his character again. In the fourth episode of season 19, Leroy Jethro Gibbs decided to stay in Alaska and not to return to his NCIS job. But, “as an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show,” said executive producer and showrunner Steven D. Binder. “Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go. So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years … never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”

The show will go on…sort of? NBC’s decision not to televise the Golden Globes in 2022, after the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was slammed with criticism over its lack of diversity and ethical lapses, does not mean trophies won’t be handed out somehow. Studios received a letter explaining eligibility rules for the 79th Golden Globes, though what form they may take remains to be seen.

Gaming and fandom TV network G4 will be revived on November 16, with carriage deals in place on Verizon FiOS, Cox, Xfinity TV and Philo. G4 also has a multi-year promotional and commercial partnership with Twitch, and will continue putting out channel-specific content on social media and YouTube. G4 originally launched in 2002, created by former Disney TV executive Charles Hirschhorn, only to be replaced in 2014 by the short-lived Esquire Network. The new owner is Comcast Spectacor. “Since the initial announcement of G4’s revival at Comic-Con @ Home last year, we’ve been in constant dialogue with our audience through the content we’ve produced,” said G4 President Russell Arons. “We made a promise to fans that we would build this network with their input and are proud to say that our promise has been kept.”

Comscore claims it is the first measurement provider to deliver deduplicated audience measurement across YouTube’s largest platforms (PC, Mobile, and now Connected TV) and including co-viewers of CTV screens. “The industry has been clamoring for deduplicated cross-platform measurement,” said Bill Livek, CEO, Comscore. “This addition is a game changer as it greatly improves brands’ and agencies’ ability to plan and measure deduplicated reach and frequency of their campaigns.” Comscore and Google announced a partnership in August making Comscore the first provider to be able to offer advertisers the ability to measure deduplicated reach and frequency with this level of coverage, now including the incrementality of YouTube’s impact within media plans.

Over at Newsmax, Daniel Cohen has been added to the net’s new Middle East Bureau. Most recently Cohen was a morning co-anchor on Los Angeles’ “Good Day LA” on Fox 11.

Gunshot detection company ShotSpotter is taking aim at VICE Media. In a lawsuit, ShotSpotter claims Vice deliberately misrepresented court records and falsely accused the company of illegal behavior. “VICE knowingly created a fictional tale that ShotSpotter conspired with police to frame innocent people,” said ShotSpotter legal counsel Tom Clare, Partner at Clare Locke LLP. “To spin its yarn, it knowingly misrepresented court records and concealed facts that rebutted its claims….We will hold them accountable.”
