Meta introduced Meta Movie Gen, a set of AI tools to automatically generate videos, instantly edit them and synchronize them with AI-generated sound effects. Video clips are up to 16 seconds in length and 16 frames per second. As for sources of data, Meta said, “We’ve trained these models on a combination of licensed and publicly available data sets.”

Microsoft has updated AI chatbot Copilot, adding new capabilities including real-time voice interactions and the ability to interpret images and text on users’ screens.
And it really likes you (or acts like it does) – the chatbot will now interact with users in a “warm tone and a distinct style, providing not only information but encouragement, feedback, and advice as you navigate life’s everyday challenges.”

YouTube Shorts are about to get longer. Starting October 15, creators will be able to upload videos up to 3 minutes in length, versus the current limit of 60 seconds. “This was a top-requested feature by creators, so we’re excited to give you more flexibility to tell your story,” write Todd Sherman, Director of Product Management for YouTube Shorts, in a blog post.

Amazon has added five new visual search features to enable faster and products searches. Enhancements include:
· Visual suggestions. When customers search for an item with a visual description such as “flannel shirt,” Amazon now shows descriptive image suggestions while they’re typing.
· Customers can now add text to any image they upload to Amazon Lens to make their search even more specific.
· If a customer loves a dress that appears in their search results, but wants it in a different length or with sleeves, they can tap “More Like This” on any product image in Amazon’s search results to find similar products.
· Customers can now watch product videos within the search results without clicking on a product.
· When customers are looking at an image and spot an item they’re interested in, they can now isolate the item and search for it specifically using Amazon’s circle feature.

Ninety-eight percent of brands and agencies are grappling with big data challenges, from finding quality tech partners to manage it all ,to first-party data limitations, like scale, according to a study from Lotame with research firm Ciint. Highlights from “The State of Data Collaboration: A Global Perspective” also include:
· Agencies and marketers tackle first-party data scaling differently: 61% of agencies enrich data (add more data), while 52% of marketers are using AI.
· Agencies lead brands in data collaboration platform adoption, 71% to 64%. However, the gap may close soon, as 62% of both marketers and agencies plan to adopt these platforms within the next year.
· 70% of marketers and agencies see first-party data as an urgent or extremely urgent consideration.

Madhive has selected Samba TV as its preferred automatic content recognition-based (ACR) TV audience partner. The integration will enhance Madhive’s local offering by allowing broadcaster, advertiser, and agency clients to target audiences based on TV viewing behavior and ad exposure.

Sinclair has partnered with digital innovation company Mindgrub to launch an Apple Vision Pro app for the broadcaster’s NewsON live and on-demand news service, with a “Newsroom immersion” feature for displaying interactive news maps and a complete immersive environment. The NewsON’s Vision Pro app has partnerships with over 280 local TV stations in TV markets covering more than 90% of U.S. households and provides access to on-demand newscasts and short form story clips from local TV stations nationwide. The app, powered by RealityKit and SwiftUI, also offers photorealistic 3D renderings and intuitive user experiences.

Japanese holding company SoftBank is investing $500 million into OpenAI, reports The Information. OpenAI is talking to backers for $6.5 billion in funding.

The continued quest for premium inventory and brand-safe environments in the programmatic ecosystem led to +47% growth YoY in the Premium Programmatic market during the first 8 months of 2024, according to new data from Guideline, and Retail Media grew +33% YoY in the same period, contributing to an overall +8% YoY in the US advertising market. Guideline’s Programmatic Marketplace Insights data points include:
· Overall, Digital media spend grew +16% in the year-to-August, while Traditional media dropped -5%.
· Total DSP/SSP-transacted programmatic buying (+26% YoY) doubled the pace of direct-sold insertion orders (+13%) in Jan-Aug 2024 YoY – a trend Guideline has seen for the past two years.
· Within Programmatic, ad spend in open exchanges grew +10% YoY, a moderate pace when compared to the +47% YoY growth of Premium Deals (PMP/PG).
· Travel Services was the product category group growing its programmatic premium investment at the fastest pace (+75% YoY) and Technology the one investing a higher share of Premium vs Open Programmatic (66%/34%).
· Retail Media (+33% YoY) and Social (+27%) were the fastest-growing digital media segments beyond Programmatic Premium.

Waymark, a global provider of AI video creation technology, is set to launch Variations, an AI-powered video platform it says enables creators to generate high-quality commercials for local businesses in five minutes or less. Creators will be able to take convert their Waymark videos into additional lengths such as 30- 15- and 5-second clips, as well as complementing formats, with a single click, creating an “omnichannel” video campaign. “As we rolled out our video ad platform over the last two years, we’ve continued to talk with our partners about their ongoing needs and we’ve often heard their desire to generate high-quality ads that can cover all of their platforms,” said Waymark CEO Alex Persky-Stern. “Our entire team dug in and developed our groundbreaking new Variations technology. We believe it’s going to truly be a game-changer for all our partners.”

Operative announced an expansion of its AOS advertising management solution, with media companies including Cox Media, Effectv, and Spectrum Reach now live on the platform, and new major media companies scheduled to join them over the next few quarters. AOS is approaching the processing of $20 billion in annual advertising revenue and is ramping to support 6,000 users globally. “Media companies looking for dramatic improvements in yield across channels get the best ROI from Operative AOS, which is infinitely scalable and flexible for their unique business needs,” said Michael Grossi, CEO at Operative. “The number of media companies going live with AOS illustrates how important it is in this market to have a future-proof solution to drive today’s business and tomorrow’s growth.”

Integrating CTV video, native, and mobile video ads within a single campaign boosts key brand metrics and performance, according to a study, “The Connect Effect,” from LG Ad Solutions, in collaboration with MediaScience. The study revealed that brands incorporating a full TV experience into their campaigns saw brand awareness increased by 4.7 times, ad recall by 8.7 times, and brand consideration by 11.2 times, all while reducing cost per visit by 23%. “Smart TVs have evolved into fully immersive ‘experience hubs’, allowing people to seamlessly jump between streaming, gaming, shopping, and more,” said Tony Marlow, CMO of LG Ad Solutions. “And advertising within Smart TV environments reflects this shift by building campaigns that connect with viewers from beginning to the end of their entertainment journey in highly effective and advanced ways.”

Advertising alongside traditional news can effectively drive results, according to a study from Teads and Lumen. Findings show that traditional news:
· Drove 18% higher reader interest in traditional hard-news vs. lifestyle and culture-driven headlines
· Boosted article engagement by 35%
· Increased ad attention by 20%

“Over the last several years, brand safety concerns and new industry parameters have influenced brands to shy away from advertising alongside traditional news,” said John Trotter, Sr. Director, Research & Insights, Teads. “We see these results as a proof point for brands determining a path forward amidst a focus on global politics, the economy, and other traditional news topics. Consumers are invested in these stories, and advertisers have a prime opportunity to reach engaged key audiences in a traditionally underutilized space.”

AI ad targeting company Dstillery has teamed with supply-side platform Index Exchange for a partnership that features Dstillery’s suite of audience solutions, including over 15,000 ID-based and ID-free® Pre-built segments, now available directly in Index Marketplaces. “In today’s fast-evolving adtech environment, it’s essential to have tools that don’t just perform but adapt quickly to changing needs,” said Jennifer Zeghibe, Sr. Director of Strategic Partnerships at Dstillery. “Partnering with Index Exchange lets us bring our innovative, data-science driven technology to a broader audience, helping advertisers maximize their campaigns on a premier platform.”

Advertising technology platform Nexxen has been named as a preferred platform for Kinective Media, United Airlines’ new traveler media network. The partnership extends the availability of the airline’s first-party data from its customers and MileagePlus loyalty program members to advertisers leveraging the Nexxen DSP or SSP for activation across premium offsite CTV, linear and digital content.

MEASUREMENT

Integral Ad Science announced the availability of its Quality Attention™ measurement product for publishers and sell-side platforms. IAS Quality Attention metrics and scores were previously only available to advertisers. “We are excited to help both publishers and advertisers better understand consumer behavior and improve campaign strategy,” said Cameron Miille, CRO of Publica by IAS. “Our Quality Attention offering is purpose-built to provide meaningful insights that drive increased revenue for publishers and platforms, and result in higher conversions and ROAS for advertisers.”

Circana has been designated by Snap Inc. as a preferred measurement partner. This new agreement expands the availability of Circana’s advanced measurement solutions to Snapchat advertisers worldwide. Under this new agreement, Snapchat advertisers can now access Circana’s Ansa, Household Lift, and Market Lift solutions across various regions.

First-time TV advertisers are achieving significant and sustained mid-funnel results once they launch their campaign, according to the VAB’s new report, “Breaking Through: How New Advertisers Are Using TV To Ignite Interest & Turn Consumers Into Customers.” An analysis of 173 brands found that:
· Upon TV campaign launch, the average advertiser saw an immediate influx of over 300K website visitors.
· Mid-funnel impact from TV campaigns was achieved by first-time advertisers at all investment levels. Brands below $500K investment saw a 20% increase in website traffic; brands at $2M-$5M investment saw a 25% increase; and brands at $10M and above saw a 42% increase.
· Many brands then saw exponential growth in their monthly unique traffic, e.g. Temu, Cash App, Instacart, Canva and Varo saw increases of 177%, 47%, 40%, 58% and 1,223%, respectively.

“In the ever-evolving video advertising landscape, one assured constant persists: truly premium video ignites consumer action like no other media,” said Sean Cunningham, President & CEO, VAB. “As evident across our analyses, long-form, professionally produced video content consistently drives mid-funnel outcomes such as increased search and website traffic.”

STREAMING

As brands work to capture viewers’ attention across an expanding range of devices, they need to understand changing viewer behavior. A new survey from AnalyticsIQ, “Updated Television and Streaming Behaviors,” found that during an ad, 47% of viewers scroll on their phone; 41% watch the ad; 31% leave the room; 30% engage with someone else; 19% mute the device; and 12 change the channel. Other insights include:
· The average viewer spends 24.69 hours per week watching TV, with 60% of that time dedicated to on-demand content.
· Asked where they preferred an ad be located, 50% said before the program, 29% said after the program, and 11% said during the program, and 10% weren’t sure.
· Asked how many hours per week they watched TV, cable subscribers notched the most time with 22.2 hours, followed by subscribers of YouTube TV (14.9 ), Roku (8.7), Hulu (8.6), Netflix (8.2), Pluto (8.0), Tubi (7.69), Prime Video (6.7) and Disney+ (6.7).

Streaming service Philo has launched a new rebranding campaign, developed with creative agency Sibling Rivalry, aimed at giving the service a new visual identity and positioning it for the next stage of growth. Centered on the theme “A Better Way to TV,” the rebranding has occurred in several phases, including a new logo, launched earlier this month, and updates to its app with new recommendation carousels and tiles, a more streamlined menu, and better content labeling.

Other new programming includes Wildbrain’s “Caillou,” “The Deep” and “Franny’s Feet”; Jet Pack’s “Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty,” “Camp Getaway,” and “Inspector Sunshine” movies; Jim Henson’s “Sid the Science Kid;” and TMP’s “Go Astro Boy Go.” Two Halloween specials, with a Minecraft Original Witchcraft and Roblox special, are set to debut in October.
