Eleven billion dollars is projected to be spent by PACs advertising for the upcoming election, according to Vivvix. Some details:
· Ad spend for the president, House, Senate and governor races increased from $95.7M in 2019 to $161.2M in 2023.
· The top presidential advertiser for the republican party is Trust in the Mission PAC (Tim Scott’s PAC) with over $35M.
· The top presidential advertiser for the democratic party is Future Forward USA Action (supporting Joe Biden) with over $5M.

The writers’ guild has negotiated its deal with studios but remains supportive of SAG-AFTRA as that union’s talks resumed yesterday. “The WGA West and East call upon the AMPTP and its member companies to negotiate the fair deal that members of SAG-AFTRA need and deserve,” said a WGA statement. “Rather than engage in the traditional AMPTP tactic of pushing a deal on SAG-AFTRA that is patterned on our own tentative agreement or any other industry deal, a strategy which has already caused considerable delay and suffering, the companies must make a deal that addresses the needs of performers. WGA members will continue to show up on picket lines and support SAG-AFTRA until they reach that deal. Solidarity forever.”

Display share of ad spend revenue surpassed linear TV for the first time on record in August 2023, up 6% YoY, reports Standard Media Index, while digital video claimed the largest share of monthly ad spend across media channels for the second consecutive month, up 18% compared to the year prior. Linear TV saw an 18% decline YoY.

The list of 300 voters for the 81st Golden Globe Awards included 47% female and 60% racially and ethnically diverse journalists. “Our commitment to maintaining the diversity of our voting body continues,” said Helen Hoehne, President, Golden Globes. “Our voters represent 76 countries bringing a unique international perspective on nominating the best in motion pictures and television this year.” The event takes place January 7, with a broadcast partner yet to be named.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Apple TV+’s “Messi Meets America” premieres Wednesday, October 11 with three episodes. The docuseries follows Lionel Messi’s debut in Leagues Cup and Major League Soccer.

The first three episodes of “Black Cake” drop Wednesday, November 1 on Hulu. The series, based on the bestseller by Charmaine Wilkerson, tells a family drama that kicks off in the 1960s, when a runaway bride disappears off the coast of Jamaica.

CBS daytimer “The Talk” is back for season 14 on Monday, October 9. “The Talk” was among the shows that postponed their September debut dates after “The Drew Barrymore Show” drew backlash from striking writers.

“Navajo Police: Class 67” makes its debut Tuesday, October 17 with two episodes on Hulu. The docuseries follows a group of recruits fighting their way through the Navajo Police Academy.

“Truth Be Told,” a +Life Media original, returns Thursday, October 5 across +Life media platforms and social network channels. gNew episodes will drop every Thursday through November 30.

“Drag Race Italia” premieres globally on WOW Presents Plus on Friday, October 13, excluding Italy, where it will premiere day-and-date with its local airing on Paramount+.

PBS NOVA’s five-part series, “Ancient Earth” premieres Wednesday, October 4 at9p. The series explores the Earth’s 4.5 billion-year history, and the transitions that brought us closer to the planet we know today.

Uber’s advertising division is expanding its In-Car Tablet Advertising business to major markets across the US including Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., with additional markets rolling out throughout the year.

“NBC Sunday Night Football” – featuring the Chiefs, the Jets, and a cheering Taylor Swift – averaged 27 million total viewers, the most for a Sunday game since the Super Bowl. The season premiere of Fox’s “The Simpsons” delivered 2.8 million viewers and 0.8 in the demo the same night.

Six networks in the Warner Bros. Discovery group – Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, TBS, TLC and TNT – maintained a top 10 rank among ad-supported cable networks in 3Q23.
